Wolves of Stone Ridge #33

Setting His Owl A-Twitter

Rate this book
Hector is fresh out of a cage for the first time in his memory. Learning about the world is exciting and scary, and he looks forward to experiencing life. While out having fun with his flock-mates, Hector runs across a human, Rocky, who smells amazing and makes his Scops owl flutter wildly inside his mind. Except, the guy turns down his request to dance. He learns later that Rocky is a bouncer, so he’s at the bar working. Wanting to catch him either before or after his shift, Hector begins to regularly frequent the club. Unfortunately, that earns him the reputation of being a party-boy, which causes Rocky to keep his distance. The human claims he has responsibilities which a partier wouldn’t understand. How can Hector, so new to freedom, convince Rocky that he can handle responsibility when the human won’t even tell him what it is?

My god, these books are so bad, and if someone could help me figure out why I keep reading them, I'd really appreciate it. It's like... Eating a Hostess pie. You know it's terrible, you know you're not gonna feel all that great when it's gone, but while you're nose deep in chemical-laden pie filling, you just can't bring yourself to care about the consequences. Carpe schlock.

This was the 1st book I read in 7 months. I wanted something light to ease me back into reading again. Yeah, it was light all right. No substance. I liked Hector and how flighty and hyper he was, but other than that? Nope.

These books just get going and then BAM they're over. I think I would like them more if they were longer. I hate how they become mates and poof, it's done. No there's more to it. I want that more. I NEED that.

Doesn't stop me from shelling out the cash for these though. I mean, what was this 90 pages or something and it was almost $5? Yeah, I'm dumb.

I must confess that I love this series so much - I don’t miss one book! So I was awaiting anxiously for Hector’s time to finally find his mate!

Hector was the sweetest from his flock… After being held for so long by the scientists, he finally has his freedom, his life back… so he wants to do, go and see all that he never had a chance to…

In one of his times out with his flock mates, he sees Rocky, a bouncer at a night club and he’s enchanted from the start. He simply needs to be close, to touch and to convince the gorgeous bouncer to give him a chance…

Rocky was burnt by his last relationship, so the last thing he needs is a partier… and that’s exactly what he takes Hector for… after all, he’s there every night… so he must be a partier, right?

This book is so sweet… I loved to see hyper Hector trying to convince the serious bouncer to give him a chance.. But, even if he has a chance, will he be able to explain and make his mate understand and accept that paranormals exist and live around unsuspecting humans?

Charlie did it again… one more great book for this series that only gets better and better.

Attention Cyber world! Looking for over endowed genitalia 90% percent of the time? Well, then COME on DOWN to Stone Ridge! Our men continually sport 10 inchers on the regular AND they know how to use them!

*Cough* So I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that my sarcasm came across loud and clear....

Rocky with his maybe 10 inches and Hector with is maybe 7 inches have quite the color contrast going on. I personally don't have a problem with any color combinations (*ahem* I personally prefer blue but still waiting lol) but I almost felt like it was a point to POINT out Rocky is a big black man with a big dick compared to white boy Hector who acts like a youngster. I may be alone in my assessment but that's ok.

Rocky's baby, while cute, seemed unnecessary..How getting a gay man to sleep with a woman even being drunk is beyond me.. if that doesn't trip his trigger then how did he get it up long enough to go to town? I guess that's just female thinking for ya

Bottom line.. it was so so

On a major re-re-read of the Stone Ridge world. I usually enjoy Charlies' short stories and novellas (the occasional one is a clunkier) but I have found that the best way to read them is to series binge and read them in the recommended reading order for the 'world' instead of by series. This gives a much more satisfying read with a more consistent plot line and world. Even the clunkers become acceptable as a small part of the whole. The characters are still good, and as usual Charlie uses stereo types with skill and develops characters indirectly. The only characters that develop depth are those who appear and then reappear frequently.
As individual reads? 2 or 3 - though 3 is more common.

This was so sweet. I just loved Hector and I was happy to read his story. Rocky was a sweetheart also. Rocky had a son so he was having custody issues during this time with Hector. Luckily the plot doesn't totally focus in on custody battles between Rocky and the mother of his child. I thought that it was so adorable when Hector showed Rocky his owl. That was my favorite part. I appreciated Hector's straight forwardness and pure honesty while answering Rocky's questions. All in all, this was a very pleasurable read. =)

I've loved Hector since he was first introduced earlier.

Great story about them getting connected.
It would have been nice if the story, about getting Jayden's mother's case thrown out, was written .

Hector has been newly freed from his cage after being rescued from the scientist who have been cruelly experimenting on shifters. He doesn’t ever remember not being in a cage. He keeps going to this club in town, pretty far from the home he shares with his flock, with the other shifters who were rescued, because he recognized his mate the first time he was there. His mate is one of the huge bouncers at the club, Rocky. Rocky is a black guy and a bodybuilder; Hector is a rather twinky, young white guy. Rocky keeps turning Hector down, but then, Rocky’s cow0rker suggests maybe he should just see Hector outside of work and decide what the deal is with this guy.

Rocky has a young son from a bit of a mistake, and now the mother has decided she might want the baby, so he always has to put his son first. Hector is so naïve and innocent that Rocky can hardly believe that he’s for real. But this is what happens when you’ve spent your life in a cage. It’s humorous to watch Hector try to figure out what he should and shouldn’t say, and what he should eat and drink, and what he should do when he’s with Rocky. He hasn’t spent enough time around humans to get the nuances of their behavior. He’s really very cute and funny, though.

There is, of course, some drama with the baby’s mother and Rocky’s family, who have been less than enthusiastic about his sexual orientation. His cousin is a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, and his friend, who watches his son, is also suspicious of Hector. Of course, Hector takes it all in stride.

When it comes to explaining the paranormal world to Rocky, there are the usual upside/downside discussions, and some entertaining moments between Rocky and Hector since by now, Hector has confessed that he is a virgin. The flock is supportive and also watchful.

Setting His Owl A-Twitter is another cute story in this series, and Hector is one of my favorite characters yet. He’s like a kid in an adult’s body, trying to figure out the world and all he’s been missing while in captivity. It’s not mean-spirited, though, and everybody watches out for each other, so there are no worries that anything bad will happen. For fans of this series, this is another cute and fun and smexy story that introduces us to more shifters in search of their mates. I’m sure there will be more to come.

I have been anxiously awaiting this book. We got a glimpse of Hector and Rocky in the previous book and I REALLY wanted to see what happened. Well I will tell you this..magic. Magic happened between Rocky and Hector. Love, lust, shock, acceptance and support. I adore these two and the "secret" Rocky has a home is adorable too. I am hoping in the next book of the series, Rocky's problem will be resolved. I feel it will and look forward to how they do it. I highly recommend this, if you can't tell. :)
