The weekend of Mahalia Langston’s funeral changed her daughters lives forever. And though still reeling from the earth shattering revelation that followed their mother's death, they must return to Atlanta and their day-to-day lives.
For Kristina, that means preparing for her upcoming tour. However, the repercussions of her mother's deception can still be felt. And this time, it will lead Kristina to the last person she ever expected to see again, her first love…
Omar Williams has everything – money, looks, a daughter he adores and, most importantly, a relationship with Jesus Christ. But that doesn't mean he isn't plagued with heartache over his past.
So when he gets a second chance at first love, he knows it's God answering his longtime prayer. What he didn't expect was the seemingly insurmountable obstacles that would come with that second chance.
As events unfold—amidst secrets, lies, revelations and betrayals—he's faced with a heartbreaking choice. A choice only God Himself can give Omar the strength to make.
XAVIER WAS TRULY ONE OF A KIND HE WAS THE BRIGHT SIDE THE SISTERS NEEDED AFTER SO MUCH DARKNESS ESPECIALLY KRISTINA JUST LIKE OMAR HAD BEEN... I KIND OF FIGURED OUT WHY BROCK AND MARISA HAD AN ISSUE SOMETHING DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT TO ME WITH EITHER...
Ok, so this book is so breathtaking to me. I love a book with a little romance, suspense, drama, twist and turns. Really good book for me getting ready to download book #3 in this series.
The second book in the Langston Family Saga. You learn more about secrets in the lives of the Langston girls and the role their mother played in it. Some secrets break your heart, others help you to learn to praise God completely.
Pamela, Kristina and Tamia play a role in the secret they kept for years. Yet, they didn't know what their horrible, abusive mother kept from them. Why would she reveal Xavier to them by leaving him all of her fortune causing the girls to question who he was? Of course, God used Mahalia's evil for their good. It brought Omar and Kristina together again, however unresolved the issues in their lives may keep them a part and may interfere with developing a relationship with Xavier. It also could lead to them all being a complete family.
How do the secrets affect Tamia who is the loving, eager to forgive sister? Will Pamela lose control of her family that she had been there for and solved all their problems? Will she be driven to a secret that she had given up? Would her fear that Kristina would relapse come to fruition or drive a wedge between them? Is Kristina as strong in the Lord as she thinks? Will she continue to grow in faith or will things come against causing her to relapse? Will they ever get to the point where their souls all sing?
What tragedy befall them bringing all the families together with all of the weakness and strengths on clear display?
I had the plots all figured out ( maybe because I'm a writer too) lol I kind of wanted another OMG moment , but nevertheless I got a good story. Although the baby momma was cold I like the message behind it and how OMAR accepted his part in it.
I love how the story is so realistic- good job. I'm a fan!!! I won't purchase the last installment until later tonight- I'd never get any work down if I do it now lol
I was engaged the entire time. Although there were a few predictable moments, I was always waiting to see what happened next. I love how this series isn’t the cliche style of black literature. No outrageous overuse of slang and street talk. We don’t all talk that way. Just regular folk.
The Langston Sisters are back, moving forward in their lives after having such a devastating childhood. The past is revisited along with individuals that tried to help. Will they be able to keep on the right track and let go and let God take control?
I thought it was good Tamia started the ball rolling for Xavier. Loved the relationship Xavier had with his mom. Omar made the right decision when he dealt with evil Marissa. I'm enjoying the realistic storyline. Due to the unexpected ending, I'm starting part 3 so I can find out what happened.
All three books in this series were GREAT, and each book was even better than the last. I zipped through the last two books in one sitting. I could not put them down. LaShonda Bowman is an EXCELLENT writer!
These books get better and better! I can’t get enough! I found myself trying to read at a red light . God & faith is definitely present in these sisters lives. I NEED to read more!
I enjoyed this book as I did book 1. Shocked at Marisa but then again glad it took place. Omar is that guy that just makes you say good man. Never saw the ending coming so on to book 3. My heart was racing as I finished the last page.
I have to admit I’m in love with this author. I read this book in one day. I know book 3 will end the Langston sisters but I hope that the author would do an updated book of how they are doing if book 3 doesn’t.
Just like the first book, I found myself running back to the book every chance I get. This book had twist and turns and I couldn't stop praying for the characters. Didn't disappoint.
Never get bored with this series. Realistic life events that test each character's faith. Will you only call God in times of plenty or through the suffering aswell? Definitely recommend!
This book is one of three in a series that I have decided to review together. I usually do not do this but and I am often annoyed with series that compel you to immediately secure the next installment. However, in this case I am recommending that while the books could possibly stand alone, you will want to read all three. He Restores My Souls, This Sings My Soul and My Soul is Satisfied together present a well written story about a family of three sisters moving from a difficult childhood into the spotlight of fame (Book 1). The book opens at the funeral of their sainted mother to most people but a woman remembered as childhood terror to them. Each sister has coped with her past and the memories of their mother in a different way. Yet through it all they have supported each other in ways that will touch the heart of the reader. From that past emerges a startling secret that changes their lives and forces them to reconsider the ways they have coped in the past (book 2). Their is hope for recovery and a force that compels them to reexamine their view of their mother. But it is difficult to let go of long held anger. Tragedy forces the matter in the final book which is a moving view of family, the power of faith and fragility of forgiveness. This is a Christian series unlike many that I have read that are a little too heavy handed for my enjoyment. This series carefully weaves Christian wisdom, the language of faith-filled people and miracles into a well written narrative.
I have not read this author before but I will read and recommend her to my reading friends. This is a good book club series.
Only thing preventing me from giving this book 5 stars I would have to say is the length of the book. As part 2 of a Trilogy, I get the feeling this should have just simply been one large book opposed to three small books, but the author knows best. With that being said, it feels like the end of this book is what would have been the climax of all three combined. Speaking of the THE END of the book, I could not believe that the book was OVER. When you find yourself talking to yourself at the end of the book, you know it was GOOD.
Although it can be read independently, you should read the books in order...sorry, but it's the only way to get the most out of this middle book!!! It is your basic Christian fiction book with an almost unbelievable Saint as the hero of course, but there are so many valuable lessons in this book about the power of prayer, forgiveness, and faith that you can not walk away from it blessed with a better direction.
This installment begins where the first left off. The sisters have a little more life in them after discovering that Xavier is a part of them. Robin has been a great help with the sisters healing process.
I was worried when the new, old man returned to Kristina's life. Xavier seems ready to accept him and whatever baggage he has.
I wish to see more of the relationship between Pam and her husband, as I believe he should be her rock during these times of turmoil.
This book was exciting! So much more information was told about how Kristina and Omar met and how Xavier stayed alive. Omar finding out he had a son was incredible. He really loved Kristina and wanted to be in her life. That type of love doesn't happen often. But when it does you should keep it close. Surprises creep up on the girls. Kristina and Tamia try their best to keep the faith while Pam start to falter because of circumstances. You can't go wrong believing in God!
This author and her excellent writing that draws you into the lives and hearts of the characters has officially made me hate cliffhangers!! There is nothing much to say other than this trilogy is definitely worth your time. The second book was a little slower than the first book but still a captivating read nonetheless.
Love has truly transformed this family! Wearing forgiveness like a new favorite outfit, can build sweet memories forever in your heart! Life has some very unexpected turns & maneuvers but, with the help of God, you can overcome. Great job LaShonda Bowman!!! I am excitedly looking for book #3 as soon as I finish typing this review!!!
The first book was good. It let me see what the author was working with and whether I wanted to add her to my list of authors to look out for. Now here she comes upsetting my world with this ending! Lucky for me part 3 is already out. I'm ending this review so I can find out about my Langston ladies.
Book Two was just as intense as book one. The author paints a clear picture of the characters and makes you want the best for them. The inspiration in this and the first book is a definite bonus. I can't wait to read the third installment and anything else this author puts out.
I really like this 3 book series. Book 1 had some surprises and Book 2 cleared up those surprises and now I'm reading Book 3 . I could not put these books down. In 1 weekend I have read 2 books and can't wait how it ends. The author of these books is a great writer and storyteller.
As soon as Kristina gets her life back on track something else happens and in reality, that can sometimes be true. This book has my nerves and emotions on a roller coaster. Another great book and I cannot wait to see how it ends for the Langston family.
