Careers in Crime: An Applicant's Guide

Rate this book
Suppose you get that overdue promotion to hit man. The hours are great, the perks are generous, and there's plenty of room for advancement. Yet, if you are unaccustomed to strict deadlines, frequent law enforcement interactions, and severe sentencing risks, you may be miserable." --Careers in Crime

Careers in An Applicant's Guide answers all the nagging questions about how the other half works, and actually ranks 50 real-world criminal occupations. Covering time-honored favorites like hit man, fence, and pimp, as well as emerging growth fields like spammer, identity thief, and pirate radio operator, Careers in Crime dishes the sinfully delicious inside scoop on compensation and rewards, stresses and hazards, enforcement and penalties, and work environment.

* An exotic romp through the criminal work world, as led by your high school guidance counselor. A host of charts, graphs, and other "killer" visuals deepen the deadpan effect of this CareerSpeak classic.

* An irresistibly humorous read for Sopranos and Alias fans, the mother lode for true crime buffs, and the ultimate gag gift for disheartened job seekers.

I think it could have been better...funnier, even. I think my main issue with this book is that I felt I was misled into thinking it was a humor book. Actually, it seemed it truly counted itself as a source of information if you truly wanted to commit crime (and factor in a reasoning of reward versus consequence).

It is not a bad book and I would not not recommend it to anyone. It just did not appeal to me.

I suppose what I was expecting is the comedic trials and tribulations of being a criminal. A sort of woe is me for following my heart when it came to robbing that bank. *sigh*

Anyhoo...now that I understand the premise after reading it, it is not a bad book...just not for me.

This is a funny guide to real crime statistics in the form of a "guide" for job seekers. [return][return] Fifty criminal "careers" are examined and rated on: 1) compensation and rewards, 2) enforcement and penalties, 3) stresses and hazards, and 4) work environment. [return][return]Although this book is funny the facts are accurate. This is a great quick overview to the appeal and dangers of criminal activity in the U.S.
