Love must be stronger than fear, stronger than fate.
Invincible.
The future of two worlds depends on it.
Joy Malone has learned to live between two realities, surviving mortal threats and agonizing betrayals. And she's found true love. But the world of the Twixt is in chaos, and the Council wants someone to blame… Facing a danger greater than any she's ever known, Joy must find the strength to rely on herself as her allies fall away, because Joy is no longer sure just who—or what —she is. She knows only that her deepest secret is also her greatest vulnerability and the key to saving them all.
As she fights to protect her friends and family and to unite two disparate worlds, Joy has to trust that some bonds are stronger than magic.
The role of Dawn Metcalf will be played by the tall brunette in the off-the-shoulder, floor-length leather straitjacket. Makeup by Clinique, buckles by Jada Pinkett-Smith, hair by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.
I have no good excuse for the way I write. I lived in a normal, loving, suburban home, studied hard, went to college, went to graduate school, got married, had babies, and settled down in northern Connecticut. Despite this wholesome lifestyle, I've been clearly corrupted by fairy tales, puppet visionaries, British humour and graphic novels. As a result, I write dark, quirky, and sometimes humorous speculative fiction.

*My Thoughts*
Invincible is the fourth and final installment in author Dawn Metcalf's The Twixt series. Invincible picks up right where Insidious left off. For Joy Malone, the past several months have been a roller coast ride of emotions. Her journey has led to perilous situations, danger at every corner, more enemies than she can shake a stick at, and a romance with one of the Folk that has seen changes in both Joy and Indelible Ink.
That's a very great series! Since the first book until this last one, the story just get better. Besides I still think Joy's best friend, Monica, pretty annoying and the fact that her dad, knew about the Twixt and never mentioned nothing to Joy and her brother Stef, the book is really great! The story is never boring! Always, something is happening! And it's crazy! it's really cool! Ink is adorable! I love how his character grows. Joy is always smart and brave! Anyway, a very nice conclusion. Gonna miss this series, but I'm happy it ended, with a good end.
I am always thrilled to read a book by someone who is able to create a different world with different beings. How in the world can they do that? Unfortunately for me this was the last book of a series so I didn't get to read the full sweep of the series, however, the characters are well drawn out and the plot is good. Received the book through Goodreads giveaways.

+ No love triangle... instead, across the series you get to watch a(n) (adorable) couple grow together. You know, like couples in real life do. It was refreshing, realistic (I mean, as realistic as a YA *fiction* book can be), and great to see develop. Ink and Joy frustrated me at times (like, just tell the truth...it isn't hard), but overall, I loved them!
+ Great character development... I loved watching Joy mature! She went from a girl calling on Ink whenever anything even spooked her, to a woman who was smarter and stronger and only called on her guy to support her, not save her.
+ Creative... The world of the Twixt is so creative and beautiful. Great descriptions, wonderful creatures, unpredictable, and just was overall magical.
+ The story wasn't drawn out... This series was only 4 books long and it was perfect. I appreciated that Metcalf ended it where she did and didn't try to draw the story out to 5 books. .........................................................................................
- A little confusing... At the end of the series, I understood the Twixt a lot better (obviously), but I still think that there were some areas where I just decided that I would have to be okay with the fact that I didn't understand. Also, there were a lot of characters and I started to lose track of who was who.
-Repetitive at times... 100% understand that I am being nit-picky on this one. I don't like things being repeated; I feel like it is a waste of my time. I understand the necessity of it at times, but I felt like the series as a whole got too repetitive. Specifically, I read that Joy's parents got divorced and that her mother abandoned her father for a younger guy about 36 times throughout the series.
-Left some questions... (Possible spoilers) Does Joy age slowly? Normally? At all? Is she magically in control of her newfound powers now? Are they gone? Why? Did she and Ink have the "I age and you don't" conversation? Is Joy a legit Scribe now? Do they still need Scribes? What changed now that the King and Queen are back? Is "heaven" still inside of the Bailiwick? What happened to Coral? What happens to Monica now? annnd a few other random ones that probably would be gone if I fully understood the Twixt.
So, overall I enjoyed this series and its characters! While it isn't going to be placed on my list of books that I *need* to reread, I definitely wouldn't mind rereading it.
This damn book! Invincible is the fourth and final book in the Twixt series by Dawn Metcalf. This was Dawn's first series and she did a helluva a good job. Every time I read a book in this series it gives me a headache and a book hangover, but in a good way.
The world she built (the Twixt) is so complex, so many things happen and you have to keep track of so many people. With all of these factors you can not fathom what will happen next, who would turn on who, what new thing will happen, whose secret will be discovered and I was always terrified for Joy and the rest of the group. This is a good thing, it kept me invested in the story, in the characters. Joy was so very human in this series full of Other Thans, she made mistakes, questioned things but most of all tried to do what was right.
So much shit went down and everything became topsy-turvy. This series kinda pulls you and gives you that feeling like your in Wonderland, where nothing is as it seems, everything is fantastical and gruesome all at once, but most of all dangerous as hell. Want to guess how many times Joy's life has been threaten in this series, I don't even know because it happened so often. However this series was magical, dangerous, romantic and intriguing. Invincible was a perfect ending to this wondrous series. Everything fit as it should have and wrapped things up nicely although I am still confused on some parts for the whole it was a really good book, the action couldn't have been better.
Invincible was full of action, romance, plots to overthrow a kingdom and a murder plot so large it was hard to fathom. The day was lost and saved more times than I can count but in the end all is well. I am looking forward to reading what every Dawn decides to write next.
I won this book in a giveaway and wanted to read it, but it's the 4th book in a series and the series finale book. I never read series out of order. But sometimes I like doing things that I never do. And I didn't have time to read book 1-3 and I really wanted to read this book. At times, I sneak a peek at the end of a book to decide to read the book. I kinda did this with this series. And my decision is: I MUST READ THIS WHOLE SERIES. It's that good!
The writing is stellar. Great descriptions and emotionally evocative writing. I could see everything unfolding in my mind like a movie. The characters are all 3-d and complex. They felt real and relatable despite being otherwordly. I loved hanging out with them. Ink is just wow and Joy is a kick-butt protagonist. The world building is intricate and despite not reading the other books I was able to grasp everything that was going on. It was a total treat for anyone who loves fairytales and paranormal creatures. This is a finely crafted tale and I can't wait to read Book 1-3. Wow, I am a definite fan of Dawn Metcalf and will read whatever she writes next!
Full disclosure: I didn't read the entirety of this book. I found myself becoming uninterested, so I started skipping through and reading pieces here and there, before reading the last 100 pages or so. The previous three books in this series had grabbed me immediately, but that wasn't the case here, and I'm not certain why exactly, but there was just something not working as well for me in this final installment. That being said, I liked what I did read - just not as much as I'd wanted to or expected to. Is it because I waited too long before finally diving into this book? Maybe. Whatever it was, this was pretty disappointing for me, although I'm not completely sure how much I can actually blame the book itself.
Incredible book I think one of the best parts is that she uses the ending to say that slavery is wrong and she does so through a black character to demonstrate that the control of the Twix was similar to control the black community faced well enslaved I think it was really interesting and a good metaphor and that I didn’t realize that’s what she was going for until the very end when the Best friend who is black said no to controlling the frog creature.

This book tied in everything from the books before it, while managing to wrap it all up. It was confusing at times, though I think it's only because the previous books weren't as fresh in my mind. All in all, a solid ending to the Twixt series!
I'm a sucker for complex, character-driven stories, and you can't ask for more complex, intriguing pair than Joy and Ink. This entire series is a great story in and of itself, sure--but the story telling is what makes it so beautiful. Dawn Metcalf has such a beautiful way with words, it was like reading a fairytale in poetry. A faerypoem, if you will.
One thing left me confused, however, and it's a total spoiler so if you haven't read the book yet DO NOT click the spoiler tag.
OMG the series is over!! It feels like the end of an Era!! I'm almost not sure what to do with myself!! There's so much more story to tell. I absolutely LOVED this book. The journey Joy took with Ink and Inq from beginning to end, from the first mark to finding the doorway in the Bailiwick and helping to fulfill the Prophecy of the Imminent Return was one of mystery, intrigue, entrapment, betrayal, love, fear, anger, there are just so many elements to the story that you find yourself just as surprised as the characters when things are finally revealed!! I got to the very last chapter and visibly winced that it was almost over. The finale in a four part series of Epic adventures. I can only hope we will hear from them again in the future. Maybe...one day...
The conclusion of the Twixt is a riveting story. The king and queen have been found, but they can't return and its up to Joy to figure out how to make that happen, but she's also dealing with the reality that's she's no longer entirely human. There's lots of plots and twists to this story, and the author does a good job of keeping you guessing about what will happen. The one thing I wish the author had spent a bit more time on was the actual character of joy's mother showing up, but overall the story has been good and its a great conclusion to the series.
I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways and have chosen to give my honest opinion about it. The popularity of the book speaks for itself, this book truly deserves all the hype it has gotten. I started here and hadn't even read the other books and I loved it so much that I'm going to go back and read the entire series! The characters and story was amazing, definitely worth reading, would recommend!
A fantastic ending to one of my favorite Fae series. Everything works out in the end even if Joy failed a few times... Secrets are made known... A heart is returned. Avery is still my fave boy BTW! Love him so much. Omg this series... Thank you Goodreads! Glad I won this, I've been following this series since the beginning.
I cried so much at the end of this novel. I loved Filly as always and Joy's character was so dramatic in this one. Ink I felt kind of took more of a backseat role in this one. Joy was very front and center and such a strong female character!
