Cheryl Cooper and Levi Miller have painstakingly planned a special "Live Like the Amish" weekend for a group of senior citizens. The Miller family farm will serve as the perfect backdrop for the event, and they plan to give their guests an inside look at all things Amish--from buggies to fry pies and everything in between.
It promises to be a relaxing time for all...until a pop star in disguise shows up and one of the grannies turns out to be a fugitive. And when the entire busload of people disappears before it reaches its destination, Cheryl realizes there's more to being a tour operator than she bargained for.
She and her friends scramble to locate the missing bus but are met with roadblocks at every turn. Can they figure out who is behind the vanishing vehicle before it's too late? Or has it gone so far off the beaten path that it will never be found?

In off the Beaten Path an entire tour bus load of people disappear while in route to the Miller farm. Cheryl Cooper, Levi Miller and his step mother Ruth Miller had organised a Live Like the Amish weekend tour trip, on the Internet. All had gone as planned and the bus of weekend guest had been to The Swiss Miss gift shop and other places of interest and where on their way to the Miller farm but never reached their destination. A search of the area found no results of the missing tour bus. What could have happened to the bus load of people? Where they kidnapped? Where they in danger. I thought the book started out really good but further on into it, it just didn't seem to keep my interest like other books in this series have done. The Sugar Creek Amish Mysteries is one of my favorite Guideposts series, but this time I was somewhat disappointed. I wasn't overly impressed with the ending either. All pieces came together to complete the story with a small amount of excitement but just the motives behind the things that happened where not very realistic . I realize this is fiction but we want it to be somewhat realistic too. There was two or three different things happening in this story besides the bus disappearing. The whole thing was a bit of a let down for this reader. This is cosy mystery in the Amish genre. It's Christian Fiction and clean read. I purchased a Kindle e-book copy of this book from Amazon. A favorable review was not requested. All opinions expressed here are my own.
Cheryl and Levi have planned a live like the Amish weekend and are excited by how quickly the spots are filled. One is an actress, Cheryl is concerned that she will be unhappy living like the Amish. The bus arrives with the group, but the actress misses the bus so stays with Cheryl. The bus never arrives at the farm. Two men claiming to be FBI tell Cheryl not to report the bus missing but she is worried. Another man shows up who is FBI looking for his grandmother. Cheryl remembers she was on the bus. Is it the stalker after the actress, someone after the grandmother, no one knows what is going on.
Off the Beaten Path is an intriguing mystery written by Annalise Daughety. This author has a very creative writing style and gives amazing descriptive details to draw the reader in. This is book six in the Sugarcreek Amish Mystery series. Cheryl Cooper and Levi Miller have come up with a new business venture, Live Like the Amish. In this experience those who sign up will be bused to various locations throughout Sugarcreek to shop, eat, and end up at Naomi Miller's house for an extended stay living like the Amish. With the tour completely booked within days Cheryl and Levi are excited for the weekend to arrive. Throughout this story there are several characters who play an important role one of which is an up and rising popstar/actress who has a story all of her own. When the bus load of senior citizens goes missing it is up to Cheryl and Levi to discover it's whereabouts. What happened to everyone including the bus driver is slowly revealed along with a few underlying mysteries. The author has done an amazing job leading the reader down many paths to solve this mystery.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.
I took another stroll through Sugarcreek to see what Cheryl and the Millers were up to. Another mystery, of course!
What I enjoyed about Off the Beaten Path: The characters - I do like Cheryl and the fact that she has struggles and insecurities. The Millers are also so charming and endearing. It was definitely a mystery - I figured out a few little details earlier on in the book, but after that I was somewhat perplexed. I will admit that it wasn't until the detail revealed at the market that I put the bus mystery to rest. I had no clue how the two secondary mysteries added up until the book explained them to me. The little lessons and references to faith - These are always welcome qualities I love about this series and this one was no exception.
What I didn't care for as much: The tone - One of the features of that draws me to this series is the typically lighthearted nature of this series. The mysteries haven't involved deaths, but "lighter" investigations. This one felt a little more sinister than the previous installments. That was a little disappointing. There was a lot going on - Three separate mysteries happening in this one. That was a little complicated. It was difficult to keep track of everything. The pace - There were long stretches where the story just seemed to get stuck in a rut and stall. It would eventually jumpstart again, but with three mysteries going on, you'd think at least one of them would be progressing all the time. (You'd be wrong.) The outcome -
The thing with this series is the books are written by various authors, therefore there will be subtle shifts in the storytelling. This was the first book in the series by this particular author and perhaps her style just isn't my favorite. It won't prevent me from continuing with the series, but I'm not sure I will be looking forward to future visits written by this author as much. Time will tell. As for reviews I read filled with skepticism at how unrealistic it was for Lacey to be both an actress and a pop star, I point you in the direction of such folks as John Legend, Jennifer Lopez, and Mandy Moore. Not that impossible!
While I love the Sugarcreek Mysteries Amish series, I found this book unsatisfying. The story was more dramatic than than the series tends to be, adding a touch of violence that is unnecessary in the series. In the other books the pace of life in Sugarcreek is slow and inviting, in this episode there are car chases and gun play. Also, I missed the amount of story spent on the main character's interaction with the Amish family of her friend Naomi. I look forward to the next story from Sugarcreek, and hope they are not so sensational in future.
There was a point about 1/4 of the way in when I was prepared to give up - I’m enjoying the series but there are multiple authors and this one didn’t impress me. I could not understand how she could make the main character so colossally stupid. Was glad I stuck with it though - for whatever it’s worth.

6th book in series. It's January in Sugarcreek and Cheryl and Levi have planned a Live like the Amish weekend tour. Its a long weekend where they'll stay at the Miller's farm and do all the activities that the Amish do. As the bus leaves the Swiss Miss the first day, an elderly woman comes rushing into the store. Cheryl thinks she one of the tour clients and she joins the bus tour. Just as it leaves in comes Lacey Landers the Hollywood star that is suppose to be hiding out in Sugarcreek from a stalk er. She missed the bus and later the whole tour with the bus goes missing. Add to the mix a couple guys come looking for the elderly lady in purple saying their FBI agents. Also Roy shows up who is the elderly woman's grandson and a real FBI agent. Together they start looking for the lost tour.
Cute cozy set in Amish Sugarcreek, Ohio with a heartwarming faith-based storyline. No murder or violence, just a missing tour bus. Cheryl, a transplant storekeeper, finds her first “Live Like an Amish” weekend tour bus missing after meticulous planning of an authentic experience. She befriends a popular star who is on the tour but missed the bus taking a roadside attraction selfie. Lacey's there to visit grandparents and get the feel for an upcoming movie role. A little romance included. Cheryl, Lacey and Naomi (an Amish woman whose family was set to host the tourists) discover the truth of the missing tourists and discovering community. An easy enjoyable read and part of a series authored by different people which is unique.
Annalisa kept me on my toes with this mystery. I just knew Cheryl was going to explode with all of the stuff she was going through in this story. Buy with the mix of a Hollywood star I guess you are up to your neck in overwhelming stress. It did take me a few days to get through but it definitely stuck in my mind every time I took a break to out it down. I just had to know what was going to happen with Cheryl and little miss actress, the bus load of missing people, and of course Cheryl and Levi's romance along with some other things that you will just have to read to find out for yourself! Great story overall!
Cheryl & Levi are trying to host a "live Like the Amish" weekend. The bus makes it first 2 stops fine but they never make it to the Miller's Farm. How do you loss 24 people and the bus they are on. Cheryl finds the pop star that was suppose to be on in disguise missed the bus. of course they find everyone, all is well that ends well.
What to do on a very rainy day? Housework and read! This story was a good one as usual. The plot was a first for me in reading cozy mysteries. A tour bus goes missing. I wasn't sure that a pop star would actually fit in the story line but it worked. A nice way to spend the day.
This is the 6th book in the SUGARCREEK AMISH MYSTERIES series. A busload of tourists coming to town for a LIVE LIKE THE AMISH weekend tour never reaches it's destination! Cheryl sets out to find out what happened to them.
