Little ones love to play peek-a-boo. With its oversize flaps and bright, bold illustrations, this follow-up to the highly successful Peek-a-Moo! is sure to be another hit with young readers. On every page, kids play peek-a-boo with a different animal found at the zoo, guessing what it is, then lifting the flap to find out. Each animal has a different sound that becomes part of the peek-a-boo Guess who? "Peek-a-roar!" says the lion. "Peek-a-ooo-ooo-ooo!" says the chimpanzee. The sweet, funny animals will keep kids laughing, while the large trim size and sturdy binding will ensure many hours of lift-the-flap fun!
This is a fabulous fit for toddler and baby storytime -- the little ones are totally enthralled by the flaps and love getting to make the noises that the animals make.
This book is about different animals in a zoo and it tells us what each animal says and what sounds they make. The strengths of this book are that the animals face pulls down and says what the animal says in real life. The one issue that I noticed might be that it repeats itself and it doesn't talk about anything else but what sounds the animals make. If the teacher is talking about the subject of animals in his/her own classroom, the animal noises book will help tell the students what each animal says and they pull down the faces to get the students engaged in the story. I noticed that kids don't like to sit there and listen to the story but they want to interact with it as well, which means having different parts if the book move or do different things.
Sadly out-of-print, I snatched a copy for my story time shelf. Children love making the animal sounds as the lift-the-flap is lowered for the big peek-a-boo reveal.
3.5 stars A cute book that my 3.5yo son loves. I personally don't get much out of it, but getting an active toddler to want to reread a book is a great win
Similar to Peek-a-Moo but with zoo animals. Same nice colorful illustrations and big flaps that babies can lift easily. I enjoyed the twist that incorporated the animal sounds into the game (e.g. the lion saying Peek-a-Roar). That made it a really fun read-aloud for the kids at storytime.
On a personal note, having Peek-a-Moo at our first summer storytime session and Peek-a-Zoo at the last one showed me the progress Gavin has made this summer. The first time, the interactive aspect of this book was lost on him. He didn't go up and volunteer to lift the flaps like the older babies did. The last week, he was right up there with the librarian and having fun lifting the flaps to see the animals underneath!
Peek-a-Zoo! is more than just a book. As you sit with your child and begin this story, the experience starts with reading and expands into an amusing game that will surely inspire a smile to spread across your face. Guessing animals, fun sounds to say, and interactive flaps to pull will be pure entertainment to everyone reading together! See Reading Jungle for more reviews!
Simple lift the flap book that I wasn't necessarily dazzled by, but one of my toddlers--who never seems all that engaged by the books I read in story time--wanted to take this home immediately after story time and read it over and over, so I count that as successful.
Fun for a pre-school storytime, but the animals were identified as macaw and chimpanzee instead of parrot and monkey, and this seemed to confuse some of the kids. I would have liked a little more wording on the pages, especially the windows on the back two.
Great peekaboo book with different animals so you can do animal sounds, animal ID, colors, etc. You can give parents scarves or baby mirrors to play peekaboo with, or they can just use their hands and follow along each time the book says “peekaboo.”
I picked this book and two other by this author because the cover and quick flip though of this book reminded of another author we read Salina Yoon's "Do Cows Meow?: and "Do Crocs kiss?". I sadly didn't enjoy them as much as I did her and it appeared near did my 29 month old daughter.
These are highly recommended for baby storytime sessions. Nice, big pages and lift the flaps make it even more fun! Plus you can recreate animal sounds with your listeners!
