Kids who love DC Comics Super Heroes will be excited to learn all about the Dark Knight in this brand-new I Can Read book! Whether he’s building state-of-the-art computers by day or protecting Gotham City at night, Bruce Wayne’s work is never done. He is Batman—and he’s proud to wear the cape. Full of Super Hero action, I Am Batman is a Level Two I Can Read book, geared for kids who read on their own but still need a little help.
My children absolutely adore this book. Reading literature is so important to the development of a child's mind, and I cannot think of thing I would rather do then sit down to read to them in the evenings. Imagination and growth are so vital in those so young.
This reminds me of the Little Golden Book of The Mighty Avengers in that it's an extremely watered-down version of the story that I can't imagine an actual younger reader coming to the book cold would follow that well. It isn't to say that they WOULDN'T, just that without at least some sort of superhero background, it might be harder for them to follow than not.
But I don't have a younger reader to test this on, so what do I know?
At least this one has a semblance of a story, where Batman fights a crime, vs. the aforementioned pretty much shows a list of characters and says, "They fight because they don't get along. THE END"
A simple Batman, but at least Batman does a thing!
Whether a child is new to Batman or has seen countless shows, this excellent short read is fun, action-packed, and full of excellent artwork. Drawing in the viewer, there's a story which tells a traditional Batman tale defining The Dark Knight. Familiar bad guys pop-up and have to either face justice or run as fast as they can. Great way to get young ones into reading and to have as a collector.
Read this book in the hospital waiting room when I went to give blood. As soon as I put it down a little boy came over to the table where I had put it down and took it over to his mother to read to him. Was very happy to see that young children are still interested in BM - a sure way that he will continue past his 100th birthday coming in 2039!
Not a bad introduction to Batman, given the target audience of this book. We get the basics of who he is, though not the why. However given the reason for Batman's existence and the target age of the reader this actually makes sense. We are introduced to some of his equipment and some of the main characters in the series, including three of his main villains. Interestingly, or maybe not, although both Commissioner Gordon and Alfred Pennyworth make appearances Dick Grayson/Nightwing does not. In fact there is no Robin at all. however this is still a good book if you want to introduce your little one to the Darknight Detective. Happy reading.
