Weir's back and TOTALLY WEIRD! The Camp Kangaroo Challenge is on, and Weir’s team is up against Bella and the new kid, who has the coolest name ever . . . HANS SOME! Yep, that’s really his name! Weir Do vs Hans Some! It won’t be easy . . . but it will be funny!
Anh Do is a comedian, artist and also one of the highest selling Australian authors of all time, with total book sales approaching 3 million.
Anh’s first book, The Happiest Refugee, is his enormously popular memoir recounting his perilous childhood journey in a tiny boat from war-torn Vietnam to Australia. The book became an instant hit and has won numerous awards including Australian Book of the Year.
Anh has since turned his attention to children’s book writing.
Weird Do is an illustrated series starring Weir (1st name), Do (2nd name), a kid with a very unfortunate name. Aimed at the 8+ market, these books have gone off the charts as national best-sellers, resulting in 14 books total and more on the way. The first Weir Do won the Australian Book Industry Award for Older Children (2014).
Other children's book series include Hotdog, the adventures of a sausage dog and also Ninja Kid, the escapades of a 10 year old Nerd who discovers he’s the world’s last ninja.
In 2019, Anh released Wolf Girl, a series about a little girl who gets lost in forest and befriends a group of dogs and an enormous Wolf who become her family. Then came Rise of the Mythix, which marks the first of a number of sagas described by Anh as ‘A superhero movie in a book’.
All of Anh Do’s books are mega bestsellers and all rate between 4-5 star averages on websites such as Goodreads and Amazon.
It’s clear that Anh is an exciting voice in literature, able to delight across age ranges and different genres with great success, and he isn’t planning to slow down any time soon.
Another great book in the Weirdo series. A book filled with awesome and fun adventures for Weir and his friends. And of course, it includes a wonderful lesson about teamwork and friendship.
In weirdo 5 there is a new kid in Weir’s class. His name is handsome because he is very handsome. When the class had to go on camp the teacher had to pick leaders for teams. Handsome and Bella were blue and Wendy and Weir were red. They had 5 competitions; tent building, hole digging, obstacle course, canoe race and finally a song contest. Blue had won 2 and red had won one so red also won. I give it 3 stars.
My kids were still laughing a week later about 'SMB', and thought the character of Hans Some was hilarious. I love seeing them enjoy a story together like that - they all totally cracked up regularly through it and still quote the book to each other. This has to be our favourite from the series. Obviously perfectly pitched at the humour of my young kids (aged 3, 6 and 8), with a great message of being yourself.
Great story with a new boy in classy that everyone likes with his acronyms, looks and stories it makes Weir want to make some changes. Weir's class goes to Camp Kangaroo with Bella, Hans sone (new boy) on Team Blue and Weir on Team Red. Weir learns its best to be your true self, work together as a team not just focus on winning and help your friends on the other team is where true fun and enjoyment comes from.
Is it just me or is this series getting better. There was no ideas in this book that were taken from the first four. It was completely original. The camp was awesome and the events were really cool. Even though it was obvious that Weir's team was gonna win, i liked everything Anh DO does with this book. 5/5
This was not tolerable it was a bit boring because none of the jokes were funny none of them were funny I think this book was meant for babies, and the people that were telling that jokes they could even say it right. They thought that putting an image would be funny but it wasn’t. And the title is boring as well because being a weirdo is cool,
Another great entertaining hilarious yarn from Ayn Do with book $5 in the Weir Doi series. This time ha faces off against a nefarious type named Hans Some - laugh out loud moments and perennial silliness makes this a great quick read.
Nice and funny, nice sense of humor and how I would imagine the book ' weirdo ' would be. I liked this book so much that I read the whole book in one night and read it multiple times.
Very funny premise with the simplest most impromptu parties being the most enjoyable and memorable. Can’t relate to a jumping castle in the backyard, though. Maybe I grew up poorer than I knew! 😂
It's ok to be different. You just have to be yourself!
I can see how kids would enjoy this book. It is very funny and also easy to read. Anh Do is a great writer - and he can laugh at himself which is what makes him such a great comedian as well. The book has a great message for all kids too - that of being yourself and no one else. Acknowledgement from Anh - “For my mum and dad, who encouraged me to be myself, even though I was a bit weird”
