Faith, Culture, History has been conceived as both a means of understanding a religion, lifestyle and worldview, and as an essential reference book. It provides a clear and balanced insight into what has emerged -- for the West -- as the most perplexing and misunderstood cultural, political, and economic force in the modern world. Paul Lunde's lucid explanation of Islam will appeal to students of comparative religion, those with an interest in political and social history, and the general reader.
I got this for free and it’s obviously meant to be an introduction, but it’s way too simplified, bland, avoidance of the controversial aspects of Islam, and poor writing. It seems like it’s meant for teens but the introduction makes it seem like the writers intend this to be read by a more educated audience. The text is confused on what it’s trying to do and accomplishes nothing.
Learned a lot about the origins and influence of one of the world's largest religions. Not a big book, which makes the information gained for the effort invested well worthwhile.
Patron Review: This book looks at Islam very in depth and has a good history of it. A large part of the book discusses all of the Islamic countries in the world.
