Continuing the digital-exclusive tie-in to BioWare's celebrated game series, from the lead writer of Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II! King Alistair's quest to learn the fate of his father, King Maric, has led to Alistair's capture by the assassin prince Claudio Valisti. In order to get him back, Alistair's companions Isabela and Varric are forced to make a bargain with the witch Yavana, but at what price? Story by Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II lead writer David Gaider! An essential companion to the games, revealing one of the series' mysteries!
David Gaider lives in Edmonton, Alberta, and has worked for video game developer BioWare since 1999. He is the lead writer on the upcoming Dragon Age: Origins role-playing game and has previously worked on such titles as Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Neverwinter Nights.
Varric and Isabela retreat into the Silent Grove and find Yavana again, seeking assistance. They offer to strike a bargain for her help - which Yavana takes up, without setting the terms and conditions (as cryptic as ever - seems like a condition of being a witch).
At Claudio's camp, he reveals that he fed Alistair information in order to get the king to inadvertently lead the Crows to the Silent Grove. Maric had apparently been more difficult to manipulate, and Claudio hopes that Alistair will be more cooperative.
Suddenly, Isabela and Varric ambush the camp. Isabela faces off against Claudio, who is revealed to have been her abusive late husband's business partner. Claudio had loved Luis like a brother, and sneers at Isabela for pretending to be meek and obliging and then refusing to 'entertain' her husband's guests. Isabela says she has changed a lot since then, and then thrusts her blade through his heart.
Alistair is distraught - Claudio had had answers about Maric after all. However, Yavana shows up, stating that 'the truth is never out of reach'.
