When Di grabs a last minute invite to a trade show, she discovers a surprise: a dead body at the host hotel. The Outdoor Industry Trade Show has vendors from archery and firearm companies, a thirty foot tall foam yeti named Karma and at least one killer. Di, roommate Mary and Great Dane, Moo will have to discover who killed hunting personality Cash and why. But digging into the cut throat world of outdoor TV shows means the hunter can become the hunted. A wholesome cozy murder for every sleuth in the family
This is the third book in a brand-new series set at the fictional Westmound Center for Competitive Shooting Sports in rural Wyoming.
"Funny, charming, and occasionally deadly." ~ NYT bestselling author Zoe York Target Practice Mystery #3
Nikki Haverstock is a writer who lives on a cattle ranch high in the Rocky Mountains. She has studied comedy writing at Second City and has published 6 cozy mysteries that are heavy on the humor.
Before fleeing the city, she hosted a competitive archery reality show, traveled the world to study volcanoes, taught archery and computer science at a university and now works on her family’s ranch herding cattle. Nikki has more college degrees than she has sense and hopefully one day she will put one to work.
Nikki likes to write comedy pieces that focus on the everyday humor of one-uppers, annoying family members and strange behavior of the ultra-rich. She tried stand up but the cattle weren’t impressed.
Di and Mary are attending a trade show for the outdoor industry for Westmound. A death on the day of their arrival sends them hunting for clues. I've really learned a lot regarding archery since starting this series and found it to be fascinating. The mystery was a little complex as there were several suspects and enough twists and turns to keep me interested.
Archery instructor Diana and her roommate/fellow instructor Mary are excited to get to go to the Outdoor Sports trade show -- until a man drops from a balcony at their feet. Can their newfound Scooby Gang (complete with great dane Moo) solve the murder?
This is a fun series, with interesting characters, clever murders, an amazingly fun dog character, and hint of romance. Even with the short length, the book never feels rushed or incomplete. Plus, it's a fascinating look at the hunting/outdoor sports culture.
This is an enjoyable series and this installment doesn't disappoint! Di and Mary are asked to go to the outdoor trade show at the last minute with LIam and Orion. AS the group is checking in to the hotel, another guest falls from one of the floors above. Di and Mary put on their investigative hats to solve what happened to this man.. These are fast paced stories that will quickly draw you in. I enjoy visiting with the characters and am eager to know what happens next. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series!
I received an advanced reader's copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Much to her surprise, Di and the gang head to a Sportsman Trade Show, getting out of the Westmound archery complex. She figures she and Mary will be working the Westmound booth and helping Liam and Orion promoting the company. Upon their arrival, tragedy strikes when another outdoorsman rep plummets to his death in the middle of the hotel. Under the premise of writing an article about the different companies and equipment, Di and Mary do a little investigating to uncover exactly what happened. The relationships between Di and the others continue to grow as she gets closer to her new friends in this third installment. Moo, the great dane, makes sure to make his presence be known and at times even helps in the investigation. With a hunting husband, I love that this series ties in a lot of outdoorsman interests, allowing to understand that world a little more. Can't wait to see what's next for Di and company.
Third book in the series. I missed book 2, but I didn't feel lost. These books are quite close together time-wise, so not a lot of time has passed.
The one in which Moo finds a new nemesis: a giant foam yeti named Karma Di and Mary end up at a trade show when the others fall victim to a stomach bug. They're not really tasked with anything but manning the booth, so when a murder happens right before their eyes, they put on their sleuthing caps and head out, interrogating nearly everyone at the show under the guise of writing an article about television shows in the industry.
Liam's there, too, as is Orion, who must have been crucial to #2's plot. For a few minutes there, I thought I remembered wrong whose dog Moo was...even with Liam in the picture, Moo hangs with Di, but he's Liam's dog, right? Odd...but it means more face time for Moo in the book, so that's great.
I gave four stars to the previous two books in this series. I dropped a star in my rating of the third book in this series set in the world of outdoor competitive shooting sports. First, I was never really clear on why they felt the need to investigate this murder. Second, the book was boring. The action consisted of Mary and Di walking around at the trade show, ordering room service and take out, taking Moo out for a walk, hanging out with the boys, and interviewing people for an article as a pretense for playing Sherlock and Watson. Third, too many irrelevant elements. Fourth - since when did Moo become Di's dog anyway? She basically took him away from Liam somewhere along the way.
Still, I will continue to read this series because the setting is unique, the characters are strong, and the silliness is minimal.
A murder occurs at a trade show that Di & Mary are attending. For some reason (fun?) they decide to investigate the incident and call each other Sherlock and Watson. They spend the trade show wandering around asking people questions under the guise of writing an article about outdoor tv shows, and the related promotion & representation. They coincidentally solve the murder at the last moment before leaving the show. And their silly conversations and behavior seems more like that of a couple of high school girls than two adult women in positions of responsibility. Disappointing audiobook.
The book has a lot of technical info about archery and hunting shows. At it's heart though, the story is about solving a murder that happens the first day of a trade show! Di and Mary are amateur sleuths, but this isn't their first time solving a crime. With help from Di's big dog Moo and friends they make at the show, it is only a matter of time until the killer is exposed!
I’ve really been enjoying all of the Target Practice mysteries which are comfortably filed in the cozy category. The characters are fun, the setting is interesting, and the content is rated PG. Each one can be enjoyed on its own but if you want to read them all, start at the beginning.
Awesome! The use of the Trade Show was a masterstroke as it left you with more suspects then you can count. Is being a tv personality bad for your health. The answer is a resounding Yes. Watch the girls sort through the suspects to narrow down the motive and find the killer. Great stuff.
I like the bow hunting background of our little detectives. It changes up the ideals of what woman can do with any kind of sport. Then they get a murder and off they go with questions and moo.
Brilliance has never been cast into a murder mystery like this before that I am aware of. I Simply Loved It! Nikki Haverstock is a very talented author you really need to get this one and see what I am talking about, purchase your copy now.
I like the characters, but the ending goes too quickly from lots of questions to all tied up in a neat bow with too little clues. Also if he overspent making show, what money could be stolen.
I enjoyed reading this book and learning about the outdoor sports industry. I liked how the mystery was solved. I would recommend this book to any one, who enjoys and likes reading mystery books.
an enjoyable who dunnit where anyone could be the killer. What was cute was how our sleuths nick named themselves after sooby doo , only they had a scooby moo. a 'got to read ' book
Delightful, cozy, interesting read – Haverstock improves and grows with each book she writes and so do her characters.
Di and Mary, working for Westmound Center for Competitive shooting in Wyoming, luck out when two other employees fall ill and are unable to attend the Outdoor Industry Trade Show. Thinking they will be bored sitting behind a table fielding questions from potential customers they soon find themselves caught up in trying to solve a murder instead. With plenty of suspects this Holmes and Watson wannabe team sets out to solve who murdered the man who died in the first chapter of this story. Through many interviews with various persons, some interactions with friendly employees and much time spent with Moo the Great Dane wonder dog the sleuths eventually figure out who did Cash wrong and solve the case before leaving the OIT Show.
The writing is educational, clean and appropriate for all ages. I learned about recurve bows, trade shows, television hunting shows and writing articles for magazines while enjoying the story and the characters. I like the way the relationship between Liam and Di is growing slowly and the introduction of a potential relationship for Mary and Orion. This series has a GREAT future and I can see Di and Mary solving not only murders but all sorts of other mysteries in the future, too.
Thank you to the author for the copy of this book to read and review.
This is the third book in Nikki Haverstock’s Target Practice Mysteries series. I found this book to be humorous, even paced, entertaining, and a fun read. The storyline is well written, flows smoothly, and the characters are well developed, likeable, and relatable. I’ve enjoyed reading this series and look forward to the next book.
Di, her roommate, Mary, and even Moo, a Great Dane, get last minute invitations to The Outdoor Industry Trade Show as representatives of Westmound Center for Competitive Shooting Sports. Di and Mary are excited about attending the show and the possibility of spending time with Liam and Orion. The trade show has archery and firearm vendors and a replica of a yeti (a large hairy creature) named Karma that scares Moo. When the Westmound representatives arrive at the hotel, another guest falls to his death from one of the upper floors. Di and Mary don’t believe this was an accident and can’t resist investigating to learn who killed Cash, a hunting show personality, and why. During their investigation, they learn just how cutthroat the world of outdoor TV shows can be.

This is the 3rd book in the Target Practice Mystery series. This story builds on the first two, while hitting the ball out of the park! The characters readers have grown to love in the first two books are further developed in this edition of the series, but readers are also introduced to a host of new characters to love and hate.
Just like the first two installments, this one is fast-paced and will keep you entertained until the final page. As an archer, this book in particular provided plenty of good laughs, and I really felt like I was right there in the middle of everything happening. You don't have to be involved in archery to love this series, however, as who couldn't love a Great Dane named Moo.
I definitely can't wait for more to be published in this series!

Death on the Range, Book 3 in this cozy mystery series, is just as good as the first 2 books. At the last minute Di and Moo join the team at the Outdoor Industry Trade Show where a dead body is found at the host hotel. Outdoor hunting show personality Cash was thrown from a balcony into the hotel lobby. Di and Mary follow clues throughout the story as they perform their duties at the trade show.
The story has lots of comical quirks that happen as Di, Mary and their Great Dane Moo follow the clues to the end. This is a cute mystery with likeable heroines and the ever faithful Moo.
Death at the Trade Show is the third in the Target Practice Mysteries by Nikki Haverstock. These cozy mysteries are fast, fun and sweet. Di, Mary and Moo track down a killer at a tradeshow for hunters and archers. There are plenty of suspects, motives and distractions. Death at the Trade Show is a hit and will leave you wanting more.
