Summary When their spaceship is forced to crash land on Earth, alien beings disguise themselves as humans in order to get the materials they need to repair the ship.
Amazon description: The inhabitants of a disabled spaceship take steps to prevent the panic-stricken citizens of Sand Rock from thwarting efforts to repair their craft.
Aliens crash on 1950's Earth, and their attempts to repair in secret are stymied by a curious science fiction writer and a fearful town. A classic Ray Bradbury-penned film, much deeper than the usual "aliens are here to get us!" fare, is turned into a spirited storybook that keeps the charm and emotional beats of the original with well-picked pictures and pacing.
I've shelved this in my kid's room, next to the other Crestwood House Monster books. Many of those are overviews, such as a book about all kinds of Godzilla or Dracula movies. This is one of the times Ian Thorne wrote about just a single film, and I can't wait for my kids to get older so I can read it to them before bed.
This is part of a series of books called "Monster series." The script is easy to read and aimed at a young reader however the story is all there and many of the pictures from the movie. A few scenes were sketched in and lack the spookiness of the movie. This may have been on purpose but it distracted me. As with many books, things that were implied in the movie are made clear in the book.
The basic story is a spaceship has to make a pit stop on Earth. While making repairs the ugly aliens have to deal with vigilante ugly earthlings. I just love the evil look from Barbara Rush.
This book is by Ian Thorne, adapted from a screenplay by Harry Essex, from a story by Ray Bradbury.
Another great horror/scifi classic produced in 1953. In this excellent volume you'll read what happened: crash of the starship, is there something out there?, the shape changers, strange noise, an eerie mist appears on the desert, space creatures in disguise walk the streets, showdown at the old mine... well, they'll be back. Some Day. Nightmarish stuff you won't forget as long as you live. That monster series is absolutely awesome. All the great classic to re-read. Highly recommended!
