This book was almost a good book, but one thing that ruined it for me was the stupidity of the heroine--I do weary of the too dumb to live heroines. Sadly, this is not the first book that I've read ruined by a stupid character who's placed in a strange and dangerous situation where she knows nothing about survival, along with other characters who are experts on survival, and yet the freaking idiot refuses to listen to anyone--ever. Seriously, who does that? Sadly, she doesn't seem to care who else she gets killed in the process as long as she gets her own crazy obsessive way to defy everybody and act stupid. I guess if this were a contemporary tale where the freaking idiot was already diagnosed with Oppositional Personality Disorder, maybe you could make that old chestnut work--nah. How I wish Romance Writers would get together and agree that the stupid heroine with Oppositional Personality Disorder, who is too arrogant to respect anyone other than her arrogant self has been way too overdone and it is time to retire that chestnut. What was with the crazy stupid heroine's obsession with returning to Seven Pines even though she knew there was a renegade Indian looking for her there to rape her in revenge for her despicable husband's offenses? Why, for crying out loud? She'd only just arrived, it wasn't like she was Scarlett freaking O'Hara with a lifelong attachment to Tara. Seriously, if you were facing the zombie apocalypse along with Daryl Dixon, would you listen to Daryl or jump up and down screaming "hey, zombies, came kill me and my friends."

This is one of those books where I liked the heroine much more than I did the hero and thought she deserved better. Caroline turned out to be a lot stronger than I expected the daughter of an earl now in the wild frontier of the Colonies to be. Wolf, unfortunately, was saddled with a huge "Wah I'm a bastard and a half breed Wah" chip on his shoulder throughout the story. Get over yourself, Wolf.

Not to mention I have never, ever been a fan of the "I'm going to get my revenge on someone else by seducing you even though you're totally innocent and really have nothing to do with my issues" trope.

Book Review- My Savage Heart by Christine Dorsey

Caroline is penniless and the daughter of the late earl. She wants to take care of her younger brother, so she agrees to marry a trader who lives in the colonies. She faces the hardships that the frontier presents. Raff is the son of her future husband. He meets her and escorts her to her new home. He is an interesting character. He is half Cherokee but attended schools in England. He is caught between two worlds. He hates his father for what he did to his mother. His father is a horrible man who cheats and steals to get ahead. Unfortunately, poor Caroline walks right into the middle of a couple of wars. One is between Raff and his father, the other is between the English and the Cherokee.
The author projects what the tensions were like and the uncertainty. The settlers were scared, and Raff was walking a thin line promoting peace. Seeing how the author portrayed the relationship between the two groups was intriguing. Then add Raff’s family ties and it gets complicated. I felt for Caroline. She has no idea what she is getting herself into but has no choice. Then her relationship with Raff is so heartbreaking. His intentions were not what she expected, and she fights her feelings so hard. Her heart needs protecting as she becomes a target. She becomes a character with emerging strength. She surprises me with what she is capable of handling. I wanted to shake her because of her stubbornness at times. I also felt the same about Raff. The storyline was good, I liked the surprises and the political issues threaded throughout. It was a good read. I give it a 4 out of 5.

3 - 3.5 stars. This was my first book by Dorsey. I thought it was good, I like the characters, agree with some other reviews that the h at times was quite stubborn in her actions. However, if she wasn’t it wouldn’t advance the plot in many places. The plot was kind of basic, there was some action, and I liked the H. I have to admit it kept me turning pages. I’ll definitely read more of her books, which is good because I own several others.

I very much appreciated the historical aspects to this story. The tensions between the English colonials and the Cherokee were presented well and both sides were given their say.

The hero, Wolf MacQuaid, is the bastard son of an Englishman living in the colonies and a Cherokee woman. He is, of course, entirely well-rounded having been compelled to be educated in England by his father. His is a life fraught with tension due to his blended heritage, and he does all he can to make a peaceful road between the varying factions.

The heroine, Lady Caroline Simmons, is a pattern-card. Blond, blue-eyed, beautiful, and utterly unprepared for her life as she has accepted the bridal offer of Wolf's father, Robert MacQuaid. I do not care for her and find her stubborn impulsiveness foolish for the most part of the book.

No more spoilers, I promise. The book was okay, but again, I think most of my stars are for the historical aspects of the book rather than the romance.

This was a different type of book for me . Set in 1759 with the war going on between the English and the Cherokee Indians. This was a great book and a wonderful romance story between Wolf and Caroline. I just couldn't put it down. It had a lot of action and really held my interest the whole way through. It was a great book and I would highly recommend it.

Impoverished Lady Caroline has traveled to the new world to marry a man she has never met, in a time when there is trouble between the native americans and the English. Her groom sends his half breed son to collect her. Wolf sees this as the perfect oppertunity to punish his fsther. He will seduce his bride.
This has a lot of adventure but is just a bit predictable.

I liked a lot about this book, but it drives me crazy when a heroine consistently does dumb stuff--and this heroine certainly does that. Had the heroine had a bit more common sense this would have rated a lot higher for me. However it really had the feel of heroines in a slasher movie running out into the night when she doesn't know where the ax murder is.....
