This bundle contains the first 3 books in Lexi Blake's Masters and Mercenaries series. I'll review each story separately and update this review as I read them:

Book 1: The Dom Who Loved Me (Rating 3.5 stars)

Anyone who follows my blog or is friends with me on Goodreads can't fail to have noticed that I've become a huge fan of Lexi Blake over the last year or so and I'm really enjoying working my way through her extensive backlist. I've been looking forward to starting the Masters and Mercenaries series for ages and have already met quite a few of the characters as they've made appearances in her other books. So I was excited to start the Dom Who Loved Me and overall I did enjoy the story but I did have a few issues with it that meant I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the Bliss or Texas Sirens books.

To start with the positives I have to say I really loved Grace, she's an older heroine (something we don't see enough of in my opinion) who was widowed young and is now living alone for the first time after her two sons have left to go to college. Grace is a people pleaser who always goes out of her way to make sure everyone around her have what they need. Before all her energy went into looking after her sons and now she mainly focuses on her job and trying to anticipate the needs of her alcoholic boss. I thought Grace was a great character and I really enjoyed seeing the boost in her confidence that came from starting a relationship with Sean.

When it comes to Sean I have more mixed feelings, in some ways I really liked him but there were other things that drove me absolutely crazy. Firstly was the fact that he met Grace when he was there to put both her and her boss under surveillance. McKay/Taggart Security Services are hunting a terrorist and they have reason to believe that the company Grace works for is somehow involved so several members of the team go undercover as both employees and clients while they try to figure out what is going on. I don't have an issue with that but I did find it uncomfortable that Sean gains Grace's trust specifically because he wants to spy on her, perhaps that wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't immediately pursued a relationship with her, if they'd become friends through the investigation but not taken it any further until he was sure of her innocence I'd probably have felt better about it.

The fact that he takes advantage of her trust (even going so far as bugging her house, making a copy of the key she gave him for his friends to use to get inside her property and even drugging her so they could hack into her laptop!) while at the same time starting a D/s relationship with her just made things creepy, trust is the cornerstone of any kind of BDSM relationship and I didn't appreciate Sean completely ignoring that. Then, after abandoning her with no notice he ended up treating her terribly for no good reason which annoyed me even more. I thought the scenes after Grace found out the truth were totally unrealistic and I couldn't believe that she didn't use her safe word and walk away from him. To be honest I'd have liked the story a whole lot more if she'd done exactly that and he'd had to work at earning her forgiveness.

That really makes it sound like I hated this book but that couldn't be further from the truth, like I said I did really like Grace and I even thought her and Sean were well matched both in and out of the bedroom. I liked that she was strong enough to challenge him when she needed to even if that did go a little awry towards the end of the book. I also thought they had a lot of potential as a couple and their chemistry was fantastic. One thing I really loved was getting to know the other members of Sean's team and I'm really excited to continue the series, especially Adam and Jacob's story which, luckily for me, is up next! This series definitely has the potential to become one of my favourites, we already have a group of fantastic characters and Lexi Blake excels at mixing a hint of suspense and danger in with really hot romances.

Book 2: The Men with the Golden Cuffs (Rating 4 stars)

We met Adam and Jacob in the first book of the Masters and Mercenaries series and I have to admit I couldn't wait to read their story so I was really excited it was the very next book! These two are just so much fun to spend time with and Serena is one lucky lady. I love that they're already a unit and know exactly what they want going in, they're closer than most brothers, have worked together for years and have always enjoyed sharing women. Although there's nothing romantic between the two of them they have such a strong bond and they want to find a woman willing to be with them both, someone who will help them build a family.

Serena is a popular erotic romance writer who loves writing BDSM and menage stories, she plays out her fantasies in her writing but although she's done a lot of research and has a very clear idea of what she wants she's never actually lived the lifestyle. In fact, her ex-husband divorced her when he found out about the type of books she'd been writing and she's been scared off of men by his reaction to her desires. Her life has been turned upside-down recently by a stalker, at first she thought it was an obsessive fan but their behaviour has become more and more threatening and it's now reached the point where her agent has decided to hire bodyguards for her. When Jacob and Adam are brought in to protect her they're both immediately attracted to her but Jacob has been burned before and is very wary of getting attached. Serena is equally gun-shy but Adam knows a good thing when he sees it and sets out to bring the three of them together.

I loved the way the romance develops between these three, they're playful together and have a lot of fun but it's obvious the connection goes far beyond just sex. Jacob and Adam are willing to play out all of Serena's deepest fantasies but they have no intention of letting her top from the bottom and they're going to push all of her boundaries too. There was a moment towards the end when there was a huge misunderstanding that the guys didn't handle too well but it was less jarring than the one in the first book and I thought the apologies and make up was handled much better too. I did find it fairly easy to guess who was behind the stalking incident but there were a few surprises that I didn't see coming and I loved that Serena fought for herself and didn't just sit around waiting to be rescued by her men.

I'm really enjoying this series and can't wait to carry on reading. I'm very excited for Ian's book but I also have high hopes for Eve and Alex too.

Book 3: A Dom is Forever (Rating 4 stars)

The team are hot on the heels of Eli Nelson, the rogue CIA Agent they've been trying to bring down since the first book, and the chase has brought them to London where they believe Eli is working alongside wealthy philanthropist Thomas Molina. They need to get close to Molina to figure out exactly how he's involved and the best way to do that is via his assistant Avery. It's Liam's turn to go undercover but he has no idea that his past and present are about to collide and the explosion could be the death of him.

I've been looking forward to Liam's book, he's been a loveable rogue since the beginning of the series and I was dying to know more about him and how he ended up working at McKay/Taggart so I loved getting to learn more about his backstory. He left Ireland in disgrace after an op went south and several fellow agents were killed and he's been living under a cloud ever since, unable to remember the night it all went wrong and secretly worried that it was all somehow his fault. Liam never wanted to settle down and enjoys spending time with the single subs at the club but there is something about Avery's innocence that completely draws him in and when he falls it's hard and fast.

Avery is a woman who has lost everything not just once but twice, first when her parents died and then later when her husband and daughter were killed in a tragic accident. That kind of trauma could easily make her bitter but she's somehow managed to keep a sense of optimism and she's worked hard to build a life for herself. Sure, the last few years may all have been about her work but now she's feeling ready to put herself out there again and perhaps try dating. She has a connection with Liam from the very beginning and although she's wary of getting hurt again she won't let it stop her from fighting for what she wants.

I think what I loved most about Liam was that when he realised how deep he'd fallen he went against the team to tell Avery the truth about who he was and why he was in London. The one thing I've not liked about the previous two books was how the guys were keeping secrets for such a long time so I loved Liam risking it all because he trusted Avery and knew she couldn't possibly be involved with anything dodgy. That earned him extra bonus points with me for sure. I thought Liam and Avery were great together, yes their relationship moves fast, and yes she does willingly jump into the lifestyle very quickly but for a lot of reasons these two just fit and I enjoyed spending time with them.

I also love the action in this series, there are always lots of things going on with the team and the rogue CIA agent they're chasing but this time around we also get to see a lot of Liam's past and learn a bit more about Ian's marriage too. There were definitely a few surprises along the way that left me really excited to continue reading this series.

Genres; Adult, Contemporary, Crime, Erotica, Romance, Suspense.
4.5 stars

The Dom Who Loved Me 5 Stars
It is very cloak-and-dagger with a lot of clandestine characters. A great suspense you can really sink your teeth in.
Sean and Grace, the main characters are well defined and easy to visualize. The other characters stand out too. You can feel the different connections with all the other players in this story. They are well defined by their actions and a few well placed and important words. Never overdone and never taking away from the real story, but giving the story more dimension and depth.
It is a very steamy adult romance. A thoroughly enjoyable read on all levels!

The Men with the Golden Cuffs 3.5 Stars
The story tended to drag a bit. There wasn't as much action nor suspense. It wasn't bad. It just didn't move. I didn't feel much of a connection with the main characters and the supporting characters weren't involved much either. It seemed to be mostly conversations about things but no one really doing anything or going anywhere. I liked what the story line was about. There were some really interesting parts. The 'Adult' romance was there and it was good. I need more than just hot romance to keep me invested in a story. It just never seemed to grab me.

A Dom is Forever 5 Stars
The titles for these books don't do them justice. Filled with mystery, suspense and tons of action. It is a well written Adult Romance. But it is so much more than that. It's a great 'Cloak and Dagger'.
This one takes place in London, England. The McKay-Taggart agency, the CIA and MI6 are all involved. The bad guys are involved in arms trafficking. They are mean and dirty.
Liam and Avery, the lead H/H in this story, are fantastic to read about. Their chemistry and interactions are spot on! All the supporting characters are also well written. The interactions all through the story keeps you on your toes.

I was lucky enough to be gifted the Masters and Mercenaries Bundle by Lexi Blake. It has the first three books in this series in it and I have to say that I love these books. The first book, The Dom Who Loved Me, follows Grace Hawthorn and Sean Taggert aka Little Tag. Their story was an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end. Sean knew he wanted Grace from the moment he saw her photo, but Grace was hesitant to give into Sean's advances because she thought he was just a flirt. As someone who was forty with two grown sons she didn't see any reason why a handsome thirty something year old man would be interested in her. Well, Grace definitely was proved wrong once Sean got her into bed. Her insecurities came out a couple of times in this book and I could relate to her completely, especially when she found out that everything started as an assignment to Sean and she didn't even know his real last name. This book (and entire series) has strong BDSM elements when it comes to sex, and everything is done with such love and care. I found myself falling for Sean and rooting for him and Grace to be together. In The Men with the Golden Cuffs Jake Dean and Adam Miles are two men who enjoy sharing women, but they're ready to find their permanent third. Serena Brooks came into their agency looking for a bodyguard because of a stalker. Well, to say things started off rocky between the three was an understatement. The story has lots of mistrust and rocky times between the beginning and their HEA. No one is sure if Serena is really in danger or if she is doing these things to herself as a publicity stunt. Throw in a past lover that betrayed Adam and Jake, and you get a drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The sex in this book was hot and a little less centered on complete BDSM. Only Jake completed his Dom course. Adam still has a dominant personality, but he doesn't need the BDSM in the way that Jake does. There was a lot of jealousy between the two and fear that Serena only ones one at the beginning, but as someone who publishes books about true menages, she wants them both. Serena was the perfect person to be with Adam and Jake and I'm really glad they all got their happy ending. A Dom is Forever is the third book in this bundle, but far from the last book in this incredible series. Liam was a bit darker personality wise from all of the previous men, but when he fell for Avery, he completely changed into a better person. Liam was a very isolated and dark person and Avery was his polar opposite. She was optimistic and despite the really crappy things life had thrown at her, she always fought through. I loved how sassy she was with Liam during sex and despite her body image issues, she really let loose and reached subspace. I really enjoyed reading Liam and Avery's story, especially since there were a couple of large reveals in there. I'm afraid of spoiling them which is why I'm going to keep things about this story short. There was a larger story going on with each of the individual books and it wasn't wrapped up in the first three books, despite each couple getting their HEA. This makes me want to continue to read this series and find out how it all ends. I give this bundle a strong 5 stars and will definitely be reading more from both Lexi Blake and the Masters and Mercenaries series.

This was a free set on Kindle so I picked it up and gave it a try.
The three books in this set would be considered mild BDSM. Nothing too hardcore or shocking.
The characters in all three books were good and I wasn't overly annoyed by any of them. None of the characters or stories particularly stood out though.
Book one: "The Dom Who Loved Me" is a love at first sight storyline. A woman wanting to submit.
Book two: "The Men With The Golden Cuffs" is a menage storyline. Very tame though.
Book three: " A Dom Is Forever" is about a man who doesn't believe he can find love and the woman who proves him wrong.
These books are a nice and quick read when you want something with a HEA/HFN and no cliffhangers after each book but want to continue with this genre. Just be aware that this is a very long series. I think it's now up to about 15 books if you choose to continue.

Hot alpha males---got them
Females waiting for the right men---in there too
BDSM and all the trappings that go with the lifestyle---oh we got plenty of that
A plot that involves intrigue, spies and lies---surprisingly....it's in there!

I admit that I hadn't read anything by Ms. Blake before I got this bundle of books. I was curios as the blurbs promised me stories of intrigue and dirty things no one likes to admit reading about. What I found was three very compelling love stories surrounding a group of men who didn't always live the straight and narrow. Who had sometimes worked undercover ops for the government. Scarred and able to only let go in the club where they were the Masters.

First story involved Sean and Grace. Let me say right off the bat, I loved the fact that Grace is a 40 yr old widow with two grown sons trying to find her way back to living. She's insecure about being old and soft (it happens to us women of a certain age and glad to see someone is writing for us and not just the 20-30 somethings out there), doesn't acknowledge her self-worth, and wonders is there more to life than work, eat, sleep. Sure she knows she's good at her job but is that all there is to her. Enter Sean, a younger man who immediately gets her to light up. Of course the old, why would someone young and gorgeous want with an old overweight woman like me. He's out of my league. Love, love, love the fact that at first Sean looked past the outside and wanted to know what made Grace tick. Once he saw her heart, courage, and strength that's when he realized how beautiful she is. Not to say their road to HEA wasn't a rocky one but they managed to find it. And give us piece #1 to a rouge CIA agent who has a lot of explaining to do....and just why is he out after Ian Taggert --Sean's older brother?

Second story was a bit of a surprise. We met Adam and Jacob in the first story. Partners who bonded during basic training, shared the same sexual appetites that usually lead them to sharing women, and when they got kicked out of the military for sharing the "wrong woman", they went to work for Ian and his "security" firm. Serena is an erotic romance writer who is being stalked. Ian takes her on as a client as a favor for a friend. Things don't add up from the get go. Police think Serena is trying to pull something for free publicity. The ex-husband thinks she doing this to set him up so he can't get more money out of her. Adam and Jacob think they have found the one to settle down with and start the family that both of them long for since losing theirs to shame, scandal, and death. We know Serena writes about being involved with two men but does she really mean it, can she handle two Masters, will her doubts get in her way or will evidence show that she's been playing them for fools? (We get away from the spy plot in this story but it's in the underlying plot. We get hints that Nelson, the rogue CIA agent, is still around. We know Sean and Ian are fighting because of Nelson and actions taken.) This could easily have turned into nothing more than a menage story with lots of sex and no substance...it wasn't. There's a love story here with all the trimmings. The finding of love, the nurturing of that love, the hit it takes when doubts and suspicions hit, the fighting for what is real and means the world to them.

Ah, then comes the third story....Liam and Avery. Liam, Liam, Liam...our Irish Master who knows how to kill and fuck. That's it. He's got a nightmare he's trying to remember or outrun depending on the day. Regrets, oh our fallen angel has them in spades. In comes Avery, she's the "mark" on this op. The way in to find out just who at the charity is an arms dealer and what connection do they have to Nelson. In the beginning Liam thinks...oh well, she's a semi-good looking woman I can do her, no biggie. What he gets is smacked with a 2 x 4 right between the eyes. Like Grace our Avery is flawed. She survived a car accident that killed her husband and infant daughter. She's learned how to walk again. (She still suffers from weakness on one side that causes her to fall from time to time) She's lost everything and everyone yet she's managed to try and get a life for herself. Yup....one look at the inner strength and beauty and Liam is a goner! What they will face and discover will rock their worlds in ways they couldn't have imagined. Love will be tested and the bonds of friendship will be stretched thin as secrets from the past rear their ugly heads. We get closer to our target....capturing Nelson and shutting down the arms dealer.

We get hints into who the next book will be about...Alex and Eve. I really really want to read their story. They are divorced over a choice he made that put her in danger and scarred her in a very bad way. That's all we know, for now. I've seen that there are plenty of books in the series and right now I am interested in the net two....Alex & Eve and Ian...and his supposed to be dead wife. Who knew? Will I continue the series after that, not sure but so far I am enjoying these characters. The plot is quick, humor is sarcastic, the sex...well it's off the charts in the kink factor but it's loving at the same time. Know that might not make sense to some but it works.

Yes, definitely surprised at how well I enjoyed getting to know these characters and how I am looking forward to reading about the next couple...and damn, will we ever capture Nelson or is he going to be like the Terminator....never ending mayhem?

Oh my Nastiness...

Oh dear Lexi, where do I begin, this was phenomenal! Absolutely love how you delve into each team members story and let them find the love and stability that they so clearly need with plenty of adventure and release in between. All the ladies in the stories have gotten themselves into some sticky situations and find it so hard to love, but they finally do and it’s perfect!

Three in one (VOL 1-3)

One of the things I like when reading an author from the beginning is watching the author's skill grow. The first book in the series was just okay. The second better, by the third book, I was hooked. Miss Blake is a storyteller true. She brings her characters to life and shares with the world. Now on to book four.

I read the 3 in one series instead of one book at a time. So glad I did because the scenes kept together basically. This isn't your typical book when you see the title. These woman are all in some type of trouble and need the assistance of the men in order to survive. Or is accused is under investigation like in book 2 and book 3. The men all work for Ian Taggart at his security company. Security is just one of their specialties Dom is their other. This book gets pretty intense in the sex scenes (so if anal sex isn't your thing) then you may want to skip some chapters. LOL Good book though.

I enjoyed these a lot. Sizzling hot with a humdinger of a story (or would that be stories?) to go along. Writing and plot were very good. Characters were well developed. I had Thomas Molina figured out fairly early, although there weren't many clues and they were subtle.

This is a really great set for a great price.. A bunch of alpha guys who don't know what hits them when the lady of their lives arrives. Each guy, not all at once. ;) Good characters, fleshed out story lines, and romance.

Just love Lexi Blake's books & this series is great. Suspense, danger, gorgeous men & bdsm, all with a touch of humour: what more could a girl ask for? Each story is standalone but there's a mystery running through them all that keeps them fresh, exciting and original.

Can't wait to keep continuing the series..each struggled for the life, no just the moment...and created and made a future. totally enjoyed the ups and downs. and the way the women can bring the big man down without taking a ounce of strength or dominance.

Nicely mild BDSM set of books. Not super hardcore, but some decent stuff. Definitely one or two moments of "dammit, no, it doesn't work like that", but overall ok. Obviously someone who did their research decently or is in the scene themselves.
I enjoyed the characters and did n't want to hit them too often for being stupid. It's a decent story line that flows from book to book but they all seem somewhat standalone. It was nice to have all three back to back. I'll probably go out and get the next one.
Book one, "The Dom who loved me"
The lust at first sight thing is a bit old, but overall ok. This was my least favorite of the three. The whole someone tells me to do something in a deeper voice, oh, well nevermind my perfectly reasonable objections thing bothered me. Story started to get decent enough to want to follow anyway.
Book two, "The Men with the golden cuffs" Menage, DP not till the very end I liked the female in this one better for having a BIT more of a spine.
Book three, " A Dom is forever". A bit odd in the interactions between the romance characters, but the rest of the storyline had me caught at this point.
