Bear Bites #3

Shift Just Got Real

Rate this book
Life’s given me the short end of the stick on looks – I’m big, ugly and brutish. Normally I wouldn’t care about the packaging except for the fact that the woman of my dreams is Ryann Brown, a human half my age and so lovely she makes my body ache. What’s a were-bear to do in this situation?

Whatever he can to forget her, of course.

Except Ryann’s not taking no for an answer. And when she catches me watching her one night, she gives me a show I’ll never forget. Did I think I’d be able to walk away and not touch her? Not claim what’s mine?

Not a chance.

One thing I’ve come to realize about my Goodreads friends the more I get to know them is . . .

Palm Springs commercial photography

Sh3lly takes the blame for any Ruby Dixon book you see me reading. Every. Single. Freaking. One. Of. Them. In case you haven’t met Ms. Dixon or experienced her foray in to the shifter novella, here’s a brief synopsis: These stories are below the 100 page mark and are 100% smut. And even though the leading male in this story was supposed to be not good looking (kudos to the author for that), as soon as there is talk of a 40 year old dude who turns into a bear my brain tells me it should be King Leonidas and my ladygarden is all like . . .

Sorry not sorry. Anyway, this tromp through bear country leads us to Mal and Ryann. Ryann moved to town a few years ago when she was still a teenager and Mal was smitten. However, due to the age difference he immediately told himself to simmah down nah and has avoided Ryann as much as is humanly (bearishly????) possible ever since. Well, at least to her knowledge. Sometimes he watches her from afar – but ONLY when she’s in the kitchen. I mean, he’s not a perv. Or at least that’s what he’s been able to tell himself until one night while in bear form he catches a peak of Ryann doing a little self-diddling. Before you can yell GRIZZLY, Ryann catches Mal uhhhhhhhhhhhh . . . .

Palm Springs commercial photography

outside her window.

Which of course leads to Mal getting a taste of that honey pot and let me tell ya somethin’ – young Ryann’s honeypot doth overflow . . .

Excluding all the juicy talk and some other commentary that made me question whether my ladybud is actually the wrong size . . .

(Seriously? That sounds not so very appealing but thanks for the offer.)

This one was going okay and I even got a chuckle or two . . .

“If you’d just say the word, Mal, I’d climb right on top of you.”

“Word.”

*snort*

But then this happened . . . .

“Why, Daddy, whatever do you mean?”

*insert record scratch noise*

Palm Springs commercial photography

This momma no likey the daddy talk. No judgment to those who do. You might like that naughty girls get spankins too *wink*

Ok I did not like this book at all.

On top of the childish writing ex: she wants him, she sits down, he falls down, he wants her, they got on the bed, and on and on it went.
Good god give me patience.
I tired, I honestly did.

I can't even say the smut was good ( read Alexa Riley for good shifter smut).
It was a short story and that was good because the story was not really good IMO.

I have to say I did not even care if these two even got together.
He was sexually active and the fact that she had sex toys without having had sex is JUST WHY NOT!?
If he does why doesn't she then!
I just hated that because personally I like when the shifters wait for their one and only and only have the desire to mate after they meet each other.

Aside from that, I simply did not connect to these characters.
Even if it had a good plot (which it didn't IMO), the writing style left a lot to be desired for me.

Again, these are just my thoughts and you don't have to agree with them.
For me this book was a bust!

After reading some reviews, I seriously didn't think I'd like this story. But I did and I'm so thankful I clicked on the buy button. Best decision, ever!

description

Now, let me start by telling you how much I loved Mal and his brody personality, that was also borderline on stalkerish when it came to Ryann. He's been completely over the moon for her, since the first time he saw her BUT there is one huge problem. He's almost twice her age and that's what prevents him from just taking and mating her. But just because he can't touch her, doesn't mean he can't watch her. ;)

Watching is okay until she’s bonded to someone else.
...Not even the whole town knowing I’m on Ryann Brown’s invisible leash would keep me away.

What he doesn't know is that Ryann has had a crush on him for forever but since he never really talks to her, she's unsure if he likes her or not. So to test his attraction to her, she does only what a true vixen would do.

Maybe I should put on a show in the hopes that Mal’s watching. Maybe then he’ll get the idea.

description

And let me tell you, after that show and a small accident, there is simply no way he can stay away from her anymore. He's known to be a loner, who doesn't talk much, so it's no wonder he at first doesn't want to believe in the possibility of Ryann really wanting him.

description

They are amazing together. I'm so glad they don't listen to others about their age difference. They both know what and who they want and if others won't accept that, then that's their problem, not Mal and Ryaan's. Am glad it all worked out at the end and they got their HEA. I wish their story was longer but, oh well. Still, a great, short read!

"I wish I was more... polished, like Eli the Lodge owner, or had an easier way with the ladies, like Leo. But I was born with an ugly mug and a big brute of a body, and I have the social charm of an ant."

And Mal now lives in my man dungeon.

Mal is a borderline stalker, obsessive loner, JUST MY TYPE.

He reminded me a lot of my beloved Raahosh! Even the Daddy/Little Girl play and the age difference couldn't put me off this.

Hot, hot, hot. Bang bang bangity bang. She even Raahoshed for him. HOT.

Loves.

This series has been good to me, but so far this is my favorite. I loved that the hotness factor was bumped up in this one and it was exactly what I needed. The story was short, and so sexy it just about melted my panties right off.

In this book, we have a bear shifter named Mal who is in love with a girl half his age. He knows he is too old for her, so he does what any sensible man would do - spies on her outside her windows. It's not creepy at all!

I'm really doing her a favor, because anyone could come along and break into her house.

This is true. Any pervert could watch her from outside her window if this pervert good Samaritan wasn't guarding it for her. Peeping Toms make the best neighborhood watch programs.

nice little girl. Don't come any closer!

But, our girl, Ryann likes Mal too. She doesn't care that he is old enough to be her father. As a matter of fact, we find out later, that this is a creepy bonus. (I'll get to that). Ryann also knows that Mal is a bear and she's cool with it.

When he's shifting in front of her:

I close my eyes so I don't embarrass him. I don't know how shifters feel about shifting, but if it's anything like me trying to fit into a pair of skinny jeans fresh out of the dryer, it's not pretty.

Haha! She's adorable! He's adorable! What's not to love in this book? Well, I'm glad I made you ask this question because things go horribly horribly wrong.

"You want something hard inside you, little girl?"

"Why, Daddy, whatever do you mean?"

Oh, hell to the NO!!

Oh, and the "daddy" thing is her dirty talk. Eww! Not enough soap...

I feel like I need to point out a couple of things about this novella for you guys:
1. The hero was waaaaay older than the heroine. The guy was almost 40, while the girl just turned 20. Yup. Personally, big age gaps don't bother me as long as the guy is the one who's older. What did bother me was no. 2.
2. The sex was Daddy/Little Girl play. If you're not familiar with that, then imagine the h calling the H her "Daddy" while in the middle of things. If you're creeped out, then this isn't for you. Just for the record, I'm not a fan of that either. That's why I avoided Alexa Riley's Innocent series like the plague.
3. The H was a borderline stalker. This didn't weird me out. I've read Alexa Riley books with Hs more obsessive than this. But for the sake of those who do find this strange, I'm just laying this bit of info out there.

Despite all these, I ended up liking the story. The H was just too adorable with his devotion to the h, and the h was really cool. She didn't put up a fuss about the whole shifter thing.

Again, this is a novella, so don't expect much in the way of character development or a plot. Just enjoy the ride.

Aww, grumpy antisocial stalker bear was cute. Totally not into the daddy/little girl play, but it didn't bother me in this book, probably because it's so short and the H didn't order the h to do it. Stalker bear, Mal,'s trepidation about dating the h was adorably awkward. Btw, stalking is only cute in romance novels where all rules of logic are suspended, in real life, you get a restraining order and a stun gun.

Book 3 in Bear Bites.
39 years old Mal has recognised 21 years old Ryann as his mate.
But he thinks that he is too ungly for her. Too strong for her. Too shifter for her. And too old for her.
Her uncle and and aunt think the same thing. And the whole Pine Falls think the same thing.
So he stalks her. But Ryann is turned on and not scared.
And they end up happily mated.
Fun ;)

♥ (Bear Bites, #4) Does a Bear Shift in the Woods

*Each NOVELLA can be read as a STANDALONE*

description

Get Your Shift Together is the second book in Ruby Dixon's newest (Bear Bites) series of novellas—wherein the tiny, off-the-beaten-path town of Pine Falls, which is inhabited by both humans and Shifters...

♠ ♣ ♥ ♦

Sequestering himself to his not-so-tiny cabin on the outskirts of Pine Falls, Mal Standard is content to live life alone—with just the woods for his bear-instincts, and his awe-inspiring carvings for his human-hobby to keep him occupied.

Although when Mal's inner-beast sniffs out his mate, she's all he can think about—all he wants, all he needs. Too bad can't have her.

I slap her ass, just lightly, to let her know that the game is on. “You see how much I want you,” I growl…

Because Ryann Brown is decades younger than him, but a hundred years more lively, outgoing, and beautiful—which is everything big, ugly, brutish Mal is not.

Crushed by age-gaps, geographic-distances, and his own insecurities, Mal believes he'll never know the true love of his mate. But as the thoughts of her ravage his mind and heart, his body is drawn to her...

If I were inside I’d move her away from the window and carry her into the bedroom. Once there, I’d put her over my knee and spank her until her ass was rosy red for standing in front of the window, fingering herself…

...even if its limited to peeping through her window, watching with bated breath between the curtains for a glimpse of her.

Until one night, when she catches him lurking in the shadows—and then Shift Just Got Real, for both Mal and Ryann.

♠ ♣ ♥ ♦

Shift Just Got Real is a well-written continuation in Ruby Dixon's (Bear Bites) series of novellas—growling with smutty scenes and sexy, shifting characters.

Thinking back to reading this book, I'm a bit more fond of this book. Perhaps it was because Mal, the brooding shifter, was my favorite big bear in the series so far—or maybe it was because of the slight shock of Mal and Ryann's sexual preference that had me quirking a brow, a crooked smile on my face.

“I waited a long time for you, but it was worth it.”

Either way, I did wish for more explanation and/or development in the (Bear Bites) world, as well as the humans and shifters in it. Though, I still really enjoyed Shift Just Got Real as the short, slightly over-the-top, smutty paranormal romance read it was.

So overall, I would recommend this book for those who're fans of Alexa Riley—and are looking for something quick and dirty to entertain them between the pages (and maybe between the sheets).

*wink*

I liked this one too! The story was about Mal, 39 and Ryan, 20 almost 21.

The first time Mal saw Ryann, he knew she's his mate but she was only 17 at the time so he went back to his cabin. When he had the courage to go back, she's already gone. She had just been visiting her aunt and uncle.

After 3 years, she came back to work with her aunt.

Mal watched her through her window. Always. And that's what he's doing when something happened. It's also the reason they were able to talk and get close.

When Ryann introduced Mal to her aunt, her aunt didn't approve that they were together because of their huge age gap. She told Ryann that if she wants to date Mal, she can't work there anymore. She chose Mal and quit her job. She fought for him while Mal fought for her too telling Eli, the head of the shifters in their area to fuck himself. They didn't care what anyone thinks as long as they're together.

But after a few weeks, her aunt and uncle made peace with them. Eli too.

There's no epilogue but they're still together after a year and living together.

I thought this was really cute. Much better than the 2nd one. I loved Mal and enjoyed reading about an H that wasn't gorgeous and cocky. I liked that he was sensitive and a little insecure. Ryann was a sweetheart and I liked how she went after what she wanted. They were very sweet together and I enjoyed their steamy times. I wish this one had been longer!

I have a new favourite! I blimmin love Mal. I'll be happy to take the big brute off everyone else's hands, no problem.

He had some classy lines right from the start "...dick became limper than a noodle." "...thought a clit was a pimple on a girl's vagina." LOL!

What I'm loving in this series is that the women aren't affraid to go after what they want. Maybe Caro was a little less fiesty than Ryann and Adelaide but even she is better than the whiny ass heroine's that pine after the main man for years in so many books about now.

On to book 4.

I really enjoyed Mal and naughty Ryann's story. He's been staying away because he's almost twice her age but she's been crushing on her Mal pretty hard so she decides to be a dirty girl and Mal simply can't resist anymore. They do this impromptu BD/lg play that is sexy as hell (if you're into that). I liked that Mal has waited for her and that they don't listen to nay sayers. All in all a cute read though not nearly long enough :( Safety: No OW after Mal meets Ry. No OM/Sharing. h was a V. No condoms. No rape/abuse.

Wow! Another big, growly bear. It was hot and I loved it! I guess the whole age difference thing didn't bother me because they were mates. (It might have skeeved me out otherwise lol) They were so sweet together. I loved how they stood up against everyone else who didn't think they should be together. I would have loved an epilogue though...I want these two to have babies!

Moving on to the next one...

It was love at first sight but she was 17 to his 36. She left town, he resigned her myself to a life without his mate. Then she returned and he has watched....and watched. Luckily for him she took charge and got them over the hump. They stood up to everyone who thought the age difference was too much. It was a sweet story.

I adored this entire series! These books are hot as shift! Ruby Dixon (who brought you Ice Planet Barbarians) takes on the insta-obssesed alpha shifter hero trope with her unique brand of humour and turns it into something adorably cute and toe-curlingly swoon-worthy with her pack of bears who growl their way through life and who are more than ready to lay down and curl up in the lap of their mate.

Even if shifter or paranormal romance is not your thing, you will absolutely love short novellas as they are fairly low on the paranormal but very high on loveable, sexy heroes and the curvy and sassy heroines they’re obsessed with.

I’m obsessed with all of these men and I am not ashamed to admit that my fantasies now include falling into a cuddly den of bear hugs and fur petting.

Shift Just Got Real

I just love how in this shifter series, Ruby Dixon is tackling a few other tropes as well. In this one, we are treated to the semi taboo romance between a young girl and a shifter twice her age.

Mal is not a pretty dude. He’s built like a brick shift-house and his face isn’t winning any beauty pageants. He hardly knows how to communicate with men, never mind a beautiful woman. He first spots Ryann at the tender age of seventeen but knows that the pretty girl with the luscious hips can never be his, not only because he’s not attractive, but also because she’s way too young for him.

When she moves to town three years later he feeds his obsession with her by watching her through her window at night. Ryann has always had a crush on the odd older man and when she notices him watching her one night, she gives him a show he’ll never forget.

Ryann decides that he’s the one for her and she refuses to take no for an answer, no matter how much of a fight the stubborn and adorably humble Mal puts up. He’s not the only one she needs to fight for her HEA however, as her family and other clan members definitely do not approve. Ryann doesn’t give a shift however and is determined to be happy, even if she needs to drag Mal himself kicking and screaming into living happily ever after.

Mal was incredibly cute as the humble, older hero and as he tries to fight his attraction towards Ryann watching him mumble and fumble his way through one uncomfortable interaction after another he became unbearably sexy. With a bit of taboo, a bit of Romeo and Juliet and a lot of steamy moments this sexy novella just proves that the Bear Bites series only gets better and better with each new instalment!

"Shift Just Got Real" is the story of Ryann and Mal.
What happens when a reclusive bear shifter falls for an innocent human?
He spies on her, guards and when she catches him realizes that the lust is mutual!
Super sweet and sexy novella between a couple who actually loves and accepts each other, irrespective of age and breed.
I generally enjoyed it!

This didn’t read like a Ruby Dixon novella and I mean that in the best way possible.
However, there was not much of a plot going on — so I can’t really give this more than three stars.

- MMC was never in a relationship. Before seeing the FMC for the first time he only ever had sex with women he had to pay for their services.
- MMC saw FMC for the first time when she was 17, recognised her as his mate but left and kept his distance for years bc she was underage and human and the novella starts off when she’s about to be 21. MMC is 39 years old.
- No ow/om drama
- No cheating or sharing

description
description
description

It was good, okay.
A story about a mating pull between a human girl and a shifter male. But when the pull happened, she was 17 and the man was already an adult. There was age difference, a great one since she was underage, a teen. But nothing. Yay!
Many years later not a decade, she was twenty ongoing 21. kiss kiss bang bang.
It was sweet, nah, the guy was sweet.

This review will count for novellas 1-5.
These were definitely entertaining Problem for me is that being that short they had no substance. The whole virgin, mate, love at first sight is not enough. i really felt like all the heroines were just to easy on the guys. They found out and were like ooohhh okkk cool you turn into a bear no problem guy now wheres your bedroom? No one finds out about a bear shifter and takes it so perfectly the first time. I just needed some realness. i felt like i got none here, they were still enjoyable for what they were, but i have read so many books by her now and this doesn't really compare to her others at all.
again i couold be being to harsh but its just my thoughts.

1.5 Estrella!
