Until Death?

Rate this book
Ever been a god? Well I was!

Until I died…. and got judged by the other gods!

Apparently they didn’t like the whole “My Faith is the only true one!” idea.

Oh and for the record: The Apocalypse wasn’t intentional ok?

Well yeah… seems like for punishment I got sent onto a vacation!

….or so I hope?

For reference, I have not read any of this authors other books, some of which tie into the world he builds in this one.

TL;DR: Overall it's a pretty solid book, with great characters and world building but a little lackluster when it comes to plot/drama.

The characters were definitely my favorite part. The main characters and most of the side characters have fairly realistic personalities. There is no weirdly inserted conflict or misunderstandings, and they act in ways that might actually befit gods. A lot of the dialogue is lighthearted and actually funny because the characters behave like real people and not just tools to create drama.
The worldbuilding is also a strong point. The author clearly put a lot of thought into describing how gods exist, how they interact, and how the multiverse works. I thought a lot of the ideas, like how mortals ascend to godhood, were interesting.
The only big weakness of this book is that there isn't much suspense when it comes to the overarching plot. While the characters do have well outlined personalities, their combat abilities are basically ignored for the most part. This means almost all conflict is just some showdown where the good guys divine ass-pull some godly technique and win.

At its best, it's a funny story about gods quarrelling like normal people with family issues, romance, etc. Or a creative story exploring how humans would really handle immortality, or how we approach life/death.
At its worst it can seem like a self-satisfying novel where the MC just blows everyone away and acts cool.
Combined together I would say it was an enjoyable book with good and bad parts. Not the best, but worth the read if you like books of this genre.

Libro divertente, dalla prima all'ultima pagina mi ha lasciato con un sorriso stampato sulla faccia e più di una volta mi son piegato dalle risate.
Inoltre l'ho trovato avvincente e con una bella storia. I protagonisti son ben caratterizzati ed è facile immedesimarsi.
Definitivamente un libro che consiglio.

Even revamped, the grammar suffers because this was one of the early works. The subsequent prequels are actually a lot more polished. Everything was interesting; small world; tight community; childhood sweetheart; until they fought the counsel. Everything including the fight was swept up quickly cheapening the entire story.

Odpad, ale moc hezky se to cte. Ma to takovy Kulhankovsky efekt - zabavne, i kdyz infantilni. Od autora jsem cetl jeste i Beyond, a oboji jsou velmi podobne napsane, i kdyz v jinem settingu. Back to back cist oboji nedoporucuju.

Very interesting read. Really found the concept of life and soul used this book as unique and plausible in a science fiction sort of way
