I'll start with saying that I am not the most well-versed in the Lore of the Space Wolves, as they don't hold too much interest for me. However, I don't dislike them, and this short story following Lucas the Trickster really reminded me of why I did. The story was full of comedy and personality, while still staying true to the general idea of the Space Wolves. Great job C.Z. Dunn, your story made me laugh, that's for sure!

This story made me laugh. Lukas the Trickster is just as amusing to read about as I had hoped, and the dialogue was pretty great.
It doesn't break new ground in terms of background for the character, but it certainly depicted one of his known exploits in a very entertaining manner.

This is just ridiculous but, fortunately, that’s exactly what we’re aiming for here.

Day seven in Black Library’s 2015 Advent Calendar gives us Jackalwolf by CZ Dunn, a Space Wolves micro-short story featuring Lukas the Trickster. With the Great Companies all absent from the Fang, Fenris’ defences are left in the dubious hands of Lukas, his undoubted skill enough to overcome his lowly status and grant him stewardship of the Fang. When Word Bearers appear in-system to threaten the realm of the Wolves, Lukas has to rely upon his wits to defend against an overwhelming force.

First it's a mircro short so even tough it is 15 pages in length only 5 are actually story the rest are adds and eBook license info. If it was genuinely 15 or even 10 pages of story I would be considerably more satisfied but you literally get more licence pages then actual story.

Second this is part of the "Call of Chaos" advent event but is clearly a story about the Space Wolfs chapter of Space Marines so if you are expecting something different, like I was, you will be disappointed.

Third the story itself wasn't the worst I have ever read but being so short it lacked depth and detail which could have added alot to a really cool character in 40k.
