K.A. Mitchell

43 books1,110 followers
K.A. Mitchell discovered the magic of writing at an early age when she learned that a carefully crayoned note of apology sent to the kitchen in a toy truck would earn her a reprieve from banishment to her room. Her career as a spin-control artist was cut short when her family moved to a two-story house, and her trucks would not roll safely down the stairs. Around the same time, she decided that Chip and Ken made a much cuter couple than Ken and Barbie and was perplexed when invitations to play Barbie dropped off. She never stopped making stuff up, though, and was surprised to find out that people would pay her to do it. Although the men in her stories usually carry more emotional baggage than even LAX can lose in a year, she guarantees they always find their sexy way to a happy ending.

I'm not gonna lie. There were several parts of this book that I should have truly hated and had me running for the hills, but, oddly enough, I didn't.
▶ Ethan begins the book by acting like a vapid high school girl, whose entire identity is wrapped up in dating a gorgeous, all-star soccer player. His self-worth relies solely upon being with Blake. Belonging to Blake.

▶ A year before the book begins, Blake leaves for college, then cheats on Ethan, but is quickly forgiven, with Ethan blowing it off as "dick happens." After being together for a year? Uhh, wait, whut???

▶ Although Blake breaks up with Ethan, "I don't love you that way any more," Blake is still more than willing to occasionally use Ethan as both an emotional and sexual crutch. Not cool. If it's over, he should have let Ethan go and found another cheerleading 'fanboy' to boost his ego.

▶ Ethan and Wyatt immediately have unprotected sex, although they barely know one another and Ethan hasn't gotten tested.

▶ Ethan and Wyatt's relationship was pretty insta-love'ish (though well done, so not a deal breaker here.)
Yet somehow, in spite of all of that, I found this book both charming and highly entertaining.
▶ Ethan showed a lot of character growth. Once he decided he didn't want Blake back, he stuck to his guns and didn't waffle. He grew a spine, stuck to his convictions and stopped being a human dish rag, which I loved.

▶ Although Ethan could be a bit of a drama queen, there are no drama llamas or unnecessary theatrics, so the plot felt believable.

▶ This was a fairly hot and steamy story, but the author didn't 'sex squirrel' the reader to death.

[** A sex squirrel is when the author can't be bothered to provide actual plot, so they distract the reader by burying them in sex. <-- Yes, I totally made that shit up, but whatever.] ;- )

▶ I got a bit swoony when Wyatt divulges that Yes, that should have made me roll my eyes, but uncharacteristically didn't.

▶ The boys do get a pretty solid HFN, with no roving eyes and noticing other guys, which I enjoyed, although I'm greedy and want MOAR.
Overall, this one was a very entertaining and engaging read, which I couldn't put down, so it rates a very solid 4 stars for me.

Definitely recommended.

Ethan is excited to join his high school boyfriend at college, so he's blindsided when his boyfriend breaks up with him on day one. Heart broken, Ethan decides to get him back, and tries to get information from his ex's roommate to gain some insight. What Ethan doesn't expect is to start developing feelings of the sexual kind for Wyatt, the roommate.

I enjoyed this sweet MM romance book, but I didn't love. I found it hard to believe that after Ethan was so determined to get his boyfriend back, just to fall for another guy almost immediately (it was a matter of weeks after having been with the same guy for years). What ensued was a fairly sweet relationship development between Ethan and Wyatt with very minor issues between the two.

3 star reads are the hardest to review because while I enjoyed it, there's nothing to love or be upset about. It just is. I guess I hoped to feel a bit more from this one, but it was very low angst and like I said, any issues were very minor. And while there wasn't a cliffhanger the story wasn't over, and I probably won't continue reading this couple.

*2.5 stars*

I'm not a huge fan of the NA genre, but I figured it was K.A. Mitchell, and I read everything that she writes.

This book was sort of weird for me. For starters, though you don't know it at the start of this story, this book is insta-lovey, which irritates the crap out of me. That statement sounds confusing because when Ethan and Wyatt meet, it won't seem like instalove, but when you get towards the end you'll know what I mean. It also has Ethan sort of flip-flopping between Ethan and Blake, which was a little strange. Ethan moved between them super quickly, which bothered me.

I loved everything about Wyatt, from his mysterious past to his atypical facial features from Waardenburn Syndrome (which I immediately looked up). He was hot and interesting and mysterious.

If I'm being honest, this book had something that really bothers me in romance in general (the ). I really cringe when I see it, and it detracted from a hot scene for me.

The pacing was fast and the dialogue felt appropriate for the age group, and I enjoyed this book overall, but it wasn't nearly my favorite from K.A. Mitchell. I blame the new adult factor. *shrugs*

3.5 Stars!

I was in the mood for college romance when I picked this one up, not to mention it's been in my TBR pile for quite awhile.

And while I can't say I loved it, I did like it. I'm kind of torn whether to round up or down. It was definitely a 3.5 star read for me. Normally I round down if I skim and up if I don't and I didn't skim here. So.....

Yeah, it was definitely insta-love.

Yeah, there were times Ethan and Wyatt both annoyed me. Ethan's whole quirky, klutzy personality in the beginning and his need to want to get back together with his douche-y ex. And Wyatt's back and forth cold and hot personality.

I liked the second half better, even though it was a mad case of insta-love. The "i love you's" came pretty quick.

But it was a quick, easy read. Some pretty good steam. And yeah, I'm curious to see where things go with Ethan and Wyatt now that they are "together".

Wheeeeeeeee!!!

Wondering what that sound is?

That's me floating around like Casper! LOL

I adored Ethan and Wyatt. What's not to adore about them? Ethan was cute, funny, way too obsessed with sex, and cute. (Did I mention it before? Well, he was!)
And Wyatt was mysterious, hot, sexy, funny, and smart.
Blake was an ass, and he portrayed perfectly how much of an ass he was!

The writing was perfect, not an extra word, not a missing word. The punctuation was perfect, too! There were a handful of typographical mistakes, but that's all right. And the text messages needed to be separated from the regular narrative in some way. But I am quite willing to overlook all this because I had fun with the story.

Even though the book was short in length, it had quite a few smutty scenes. But I never once felt the need to skip any. Because the author was smart enough to overlay them crucial communication and a lathering of emotions. So I read every single word of every single page!

I can so not wait to read the next short story!

4.5 Stars Rounded Up to 5 because Wyatt and Ethan!! sigh!!

Getting Him Back is a new adult, male/male romance that tells the story of Ethan and his school and love life troubles as he makes the transition from high school graduate to college student. Ethan's longtime boyfriend Blake has been at college for a year and Ethan has decided he will follow Blake to Coborn College so they can be together as they begin their lives together. Since they have been apart for "three weeks, two days, five Hours and twenty-nine minutes" Ethan is very eager to get to school and spend some quality time catching up both in and out of bed.

Imagine Ethan's surprise when he finally gets to Coborn and is told by Blake:

"I still love you, but I don't love you that way anymore"

Ethan just cannot understand why his boyfriend broke up with him, he becomes depressed and regrets following him to Coborn College. He makes it his mission to not let his parents know that this has happened (as they warned him not to follow a boy to college) and to figure out the "why" of Blake's ending their relationship.

In his pursuit of Blake, Ethan meets his dorm roommate - Wyatt. At first Ethan tries to get information about Blake from Wyatt by acting like he wants Wyatt who is an engineering student to tutor him in calculus. Wyatt refuses to tutor him and calls Ethan on only attempting to use him for information. After much ado and persistence Ethan and Wyatt settle into a little bit of a rocky friendship, which then progresses as Wyatt confides in Ethan that he is not sure if he is gay. Their rocky friendship transitions to a friends-with-benefits relationship as Wyatt finds out he is most definitely gay and has been harboring a huge crush on Ethan even before he met him, as he used to stare at Blake's pictures of them and know he was in love.

Overall, this is a fun story and it would have been worthy of 5 solid stars from me. However, it is not a complete story leaving the readers to wait for the continuation of Wyatt and Ethan's story in the next few months. I am not sure if this is the start of a serial style story-line or if it will be just a set of novella's but as it is - cliffhanger or HFN story with slightly unresolved ending. I also felt that Blake was a bit of a flat character, you never really get to see why he made the choices he did and what made him not want to be with Ethan anymore. It is just them breaking up.. and then him changing his mind all throughout the story. I would have liked to see the "why" behind his actions as the two had been together for 2 years and he just casually breaks up with Ethan.

Wyatt and Ethan have a good start to a solid relationship and the passion between them is pretty hot. One of my favorite scenes between them is as follows:

"I backed him into the wall and started kissing him again. Hard, the way he liked it. The way I liked it. When your lips feel bruised against teeth and you can’t catch your breath because there’s a tongue deep in your mouth and there’s nothing to think about but him."

I can't wait for the continuation of the story.

Ethan arrives at college only to be dumped immediately by his long-time BF, Blake. Ethan is pretty shocked, to say the least. He thought they were solid, with a future planned out for the two of them that seemed like a done deal. Hell, Ethan even followed Blake to his preferred college, but now he’s suddenly at a bit of a loss as what to do next.

Opposed to what the misleading synopsis suggests, Ethan then decides to work to win Blake back. To do this he sets his sights on Blake’s cagey roommate, Wyatt, in an effort to gain insider knowledge about Blake’s recent reasoning and behaviour towards Ethan. Somewhere in the process of pestering Wyatt for assistance, Ethan begins to care less about his fight to get Blake back and begins to find more and more to like about the defensive and mysterious Wyatt. When a physical encounter between the two shocks and surprises the both of them, Ethan can’t help but want to discover more about Wyatt, and hopefully in the process, get to explore more of their seemingly mutual attraction.

This was my first K.A. Mitchell read and, I must say, I enjoyed it immensely! I have quite a predilection for college themed romances – what that says about me, I don’t really want to know. There was nothing particularly stand-out about this one, but with interesting characters, fast-paced storytelling and bedroom scenes that fogged up my kindle screen with their steaminess, I was left a very happy reader.

In prepping for the sequel, I figured I'd give this a second go. Still an enjoyable college themed M/M romance and most definitely one of the hottest I've read of its kind.

Brace yourself . . .

5 STARS!
Ethan lit up with that smile, the one that made Wyatt want to believe that things could really work out, just because you wanted them to.
It's possible that I may need my head examined, but I could NOT think of a single reason to deduct anything from the rating on this one . . .KA Mitchell completely won me over!

Audio: 5 STARS

The narrators delivered a wonderful performance that had me walking around with an almost-constant dopey smile on my face. (Maybe I could deduct for that? lol)

Anyway, the story is told from Ethan's POV, and honestly, I LOVED him. His sweet, optimistic nature charmed my pants off. He was everything you'd imagine a freshman right out of high school would be: young, naive, rash, and horny.

Does that not sound appealing? LOL. Against all odds, it was perfect.

If you're looking for a finding-your-place-in-the-world New Adult read filled with humor and genuine characters, look no further.

On to book 2!

Meeting Ethan as he is beyond excited and anxious to finally get to college and back to his boyfriend Blake was bittersweet. As the blurb states, Ethan gets dumped his first day on campus and it was painful. Blake St. Pierre… ugh. Whatever dude I'm ashamed you are a fellow ginger, but you do have one hell of an interesting roommate named Wyatt Reese so I will forget you exist now. Kay? Thanks.

As Ethan begins to navigate college life and that of a newly but not happy single boy, he makes a few friends who only want the best for him. Makayla and her “I know people” connections cracked me up and her getting Ethan out of his dorm and to a party where way too much purple stuff is consumed sets the story in action.

So, Ethan goes to the party, gets drunk and does something stupid. BUT the something stupid puts him literally in the path of Wyatt who, scrambles the hell out of Ethan's brain and emotions, but he has a plan to use Wyatt to get Blake back.

"Sorry. I don’t think I’ve got what you’re looking for."

—well, let’s just say I didn’t agree about him not having what I was looking for. But it didn’t matter because I was in love with Blake.

Uh... You sure about that Ethan???

Okay let me see if I can set this up in my rambling way that I do.

Ethan asks Wyatt to tutor him in Calculus but Wyatt knows what he really wants and it's not higher level math help. But Ethan sees something in Wyatt that he can't shake and can't shake the dirty thoughts about the emo-ish dude who loves a good hoodie until he forces the issue on more levels than one.

Gah. I loved Wyatt so much and while he shares the name of my youngest son, it wasn't odd to read him because he's adorable and prickly and just so… Wyatt.

The attraction between the boys is immediate and believable. You never know when you’ll meet that person that hits every one of your “I want” buttons even when you didn’t know you wanted them. That is what this is between Ethan and Wyatt and it was a pure joy to read.

I liked that Ethan grew from this love sick boy following his boyfriend to college to a young man who fiercely protected those he loved. He was amazing with Wyatt in every way and Wyatt in turn allows Ethan to be the man he needs to be.

I have so many highlights from this book that I can’t decide what to use. This was a great New Adult novel with enough swoon worthy and melt your heart moments along with the great sex scenes. Oh boy, the sex… yeah, Mitchell knows how to connect your head, heart and libido and make you in the scene with these boys. You feel the intimacy and know, what they are doing is NOT just sex.

Getting Him Back, wasn’t what I thought it would be going in and I am so damn thankful for that. I loved that there was depth and character and a real story that sometimes can get lost with the New Adult genre, but not here. I was sad when this story ended, I was so in love with Ethan and Wyatt but how can I complain about that Epilogue??? I made a silent squee, to not wake the sleeping husband next to me, when I turned the page and saw it. And then… and then there is more with these two? Another book??? Oh yeah! Please and thank you for that.

I loved this.

This book was everything I adore about KA Mitchell's writing--off the charts sexual tension, flawed characters who make me root for them anyway, and an underlying sweetness that catches you in the most unexpected ways. I can't wait to read more Ethan and Wyatt.

Ah, college-age. Being young and in love/lust, trying to figure out who you are, making new friends, losing and finding love.

I vaguely remember those times.

This book is told entirely from Ethan's POV, and Ethan carries this book. He's fun, funny, sarcastic, sometimes introspective, irreverent, kind, sweet, and a bit oblivious, but also insightful at times, and the voice he's given by the author perfectly fits his characterization.

Ethan gets to Coborn college as a freshman, having followed his boyfriend Blake who's an incoming sophomore, but when he finally sees Blake, the hot and heavy reunion he imagined doesn't quite happen. Instead, Blake tells him that he no longer loves Ethan "that way".

Ethan is depressed, unsure, full of regrets and mopes for a while. He cooks up schemes to get Blake back, one of which includes asking Wyatt, Blake's roommate, for tutoring, in order to get some intel on Blake's doings. That backfires, but then Ethan starts spending time with Wyatt just because and realizes that he's actually quite fond of the guy. And then fondness turns to more, as Ethan realizes that he cares less and less about getting back with Blake, and more and more about figuring out Wyatt and keeping him.

I liked Wyatt quite a bit too, even though we only get to know him through Ethan's eyes. He's a bit on the mysterious side, keeping himself hidden, for reasons we find out over the course of the book, but he's actually a really nice guy who did a stupid thing when he was younger and is still paying for it. He comes across as emo, somewhat of a loner, someone who feels he doesn't belong, which, as you find out more about him, is understandable, when considering his past and his medical condition, but it's also clear that he has feelings for Ethan, something that eventually comes to light.

What I didn't like so much is that the changes in Ethan's emotions came a bit too quickly for me. The whole book happens from the start of college until mid-November, so maybe three months at most, and while I guess feelings do change quickly at that age, I didn't quite buy the timeline here.

I liked Ethan's friend Makayla and his roommate Connor too, both of whom are good friends to Ethan, and who aren't afraid to tell him what he might not want to hear.

Overall, I did enjoy reading this. The characters' voices fit their profiles, their ages, and their actions and reactions made, for the most part, sense within this plot. Also, hot virgin buttsex. What this author does really well is make her sexy times not only hot and heavy, but also manage to infuse them with actual emotions beyond "I'm horny, must have you now". Nicely done!

We can start with the big smile on my face.

It’s how I feel about KA Mitchell…writing a New Adult story…set in college. Yeah, these things alone make me happy.

Ok, let’s throw in the fact that the book, Getting Him Back, is sweet, and that the characters are interesting, and that there’s a promise of a book 2, and that it hit the spot.

*smile spreads and stays awhile*

Let me introduce you to Ethan, our lead character. He follows his high school boyfriend, the jock, to college. He has a family that loves and supports him. He’s unaware of his hotness as he grows into his body. He is emotional and says what he feels and he feels a lot! Especially when he’s dumped by said boyfriend. Oh Ethan…I adored you. *hugs*

Enter Wyatt. Wyatt is mysterious, there’s something different about him…physically, emotionally…and Ethan is curious and drawn to him. I, too, am curious and drawn to him.

What KA Mitchell is able to do in a fairly short book is build the attraction between Ethan and Wyatt. Forget whats-his-name (ex-boyfriend, aka “the dumper”). Let’s talk about how GREAT the connection between Ethan and Wyatt is…how much the growth of their relationship drew me in and made me want more!

There’s some darkness to the story…Wyatt’s got a past that shapes a bit of his guarded self in the present. But mostly, this story is sweet and hopeful and really exactly what I was in the mood for.

What's to Like:
It’s a classing college-based NA story. And it works. There’s a little bit of emotion, a little bit of sexual exploration, a little bit of maturing into adults, a little bit of self revelation. And all those little bits add up to a lot to be enjoyed.

What's to Love:
I have a really bad habit of falling in love with KA Mitchell’s characters. Typically there involves a really-hard-to-like character MC. Not so here. I think there’s a lot to like about Ethan and Wyatt and I’m looking forward to more about their budding relationship!

Beware of:
I didn’t realize it until I’d finished the story. But there’s instalove here. The timeline spans a few months…and yes, “I love you”s are exchanged. If you’re wary, I want to give you a heads up. However, as mentioned, I didn’t even recognize it right away. So, not an obvious in your face instalove.

This Book is For:
Fans of college-based NA will like this. Fans of KA Mitchell might be surprised by this, but will like this. Fans of a sweet read with a sprinkling of emotion will like this. But really…it’s just over 100 pages and the payoff is worth it.

This book was unexpectedly good!! I think they classify this as NA but it's NA on the funny and sweet side while still being very sexy (if you like your sexy to be about college age boys who are discovering new things!). It was a perfect example of what I like about first person POV because it was awesome being in Ethan's mind. Sure, he's funny and he's horny a lot of the time but what I loved most was the way he really sees Wyatt from the beginning.

You know what else I liked here? Neither of these guys were perfect physical specimens. For one thing, they're both described as being pretty skinny. Wyatt also has Waardenburg syndrome.

I also enjoyed how campus life was portrayed. It seemed very real to me, like what a campus would actually look like today. I mean, there was a campus-wide game of humans v. zombies playing in the backdrop!

The best news here? There's going to be a sequel!

The book begins with tall and gangly Ethan Monroe following his high school sweetheart Blake to college only to get dumped on his first day there.

Enter the mysterious Wyatt Reese. Blake’s roommate and possibly his straight roommate. Ethan’s intention upon approaching Wyatt was to get information on how to win Blake back. As he got to know the guy and their friendship deepens, Ethan thought it’s time to move forward from his ex and ventured into a new goal of making Wyatt believe that what they have is worth taking a chance.

I loved that even if the book is told entirely from Ethan’s POV, the author was still able to explore each (other) characters and their personalities. I loved the attention the author gave to Waardenburg syndrome. I find it refreshing when the main character/s isn’t all supermodel in appearance where it almost always seemed like the prevailing pattern into describing physical perfection for book characters. Ethan is not physically godlike here. Wyatt isn’t Christian Grey material either but both guys are realistically regular guys you can easily relate to. So that’s me basically saying that I both loved Ethan and Wyatt and thought they’re perfectly matched because of their opposite personality. Opposites attract yeah?

I also liked Ethan’s friends. Connor and Makayla are fabulous secondary characters! Both should be back for more because what is college life without your regular booze-buddy and your humans vs zombies playmates?

Overall, it was a perfect read for me. I won’t change anything in it because I’m perfectly content with the characters, their personality and the storyline and to where it is going in the future. This one I highly recommend.

Ethan follows his boyfriend, Blake to a college
in a middle of nowhere town, only to be dumped as soon as he gets there. Along the way he meets Blake's roommate, Wyatt. Wyatt is awkward and quiet and also maybe a tad bit rude. Ethan forms a plan, he'll hire Wyatt as his Calculus tutor, and get him to help him get information on Blake so he can win him back. His plan backfires when he can't get Wyatt out of his head.

This was a great read. I've read a few of K.A.'s books, and I haven't come across one yet that hasn't been fun, entertaining, sweet, and sexy. This book was no exception. I loved it and the characters. Not only Wyatt and Ethan, but the secondary characters of Ethan's friends too. Ethan and Wyatt had great chemistry. The sexual tension was palpable, and the sex was hot. These two young men just seemed to fit together, and I can't wait to see where the next leg of their journey "meet the family" takes them!... Poor Wyatt! Haha :)

This was a quick and easy read that drew me in, held me captive and left me satisfied, but wanting more. Highly recommended!!

When I saw that K.A. Mitchell was writing a New Adult novel, I might have flailed. A lot. NA is one of my faves and KA has always been in the top of my favorite authors so I was beyond excited. Getting Him Back was fabulous. I loved LOVED Ethan and Wyatt, together and separately. Their personalities, their mannerisms, the chemistry between the two. Great NA books have a certain vibe unique to them and KA nailed it. I can't wait for the next one!!

Fucking adorable. Very black cat x golden retriever energy.

Loved, loved, LOVED everything about this. It's very NA, and the MCs act their age(complimentary).

I was absolutely cheesing at Ethan's reaction to his first penetration experience with Wyatt.

'Heaven. Heaven was on my dick.'

💀

His inability to stop himself from saying 'thank you' 😂😂😂😂😂

Yeah, it was very believable.

I disagree that Ethan moved on too quickly. Blake got as much energy and attention from Ethan as he deserved.

Love an MC who says you know what, fuck you and fuck this(and means it).

He had his hands full with Wyatt anyway. Literally and figuratively. That one's a runner for sure.

I have PTSD from Shane and Ilya re: continuing book series that follow the same MCs because that way lies pain and suffering but I'm NOT ready to let these two go so I'm going to gird my loins and continue.

Here's hoping I don't regret this.

Also- coincidentally, I haven't listened to a narration by Cooper North since The Long Game.

This does NOT augur well for the future.

I am super selective when it comes to M/M romance novels so when I came across this one, it just called out to me. I absolutely love the new adult genre and the synopsis for this one was just right up alley. I am so glad that I took a chance. Getting Him Back has all of the elements that make new adult stories so entertaining. I loved the college setting, the premise of boy following boy to college only to have his heartbroken almost as soon as he gets there.

It was going to be me and Blake and our awesome lives. With Blake, I’d be somebody at Coborn, like it had been back in high school.

The whole reason I’d come to this stupid place was to be Blake St. Pierre’s boyfriend.

Who the fuck was I if I wasn’t that anymore?

Poor Ethan, my heart broke for him. Of course this had to happen for the book to actually to take off but still, my heart hurt. This is my first book by K.A. Mitchell and I can say with certainty that it will not be my last. I enjoyed how she introduced the characters, how she got the break up out of the way early on, and got the story moving along quickly. I also LOVED when Wyatt entered the picture. I have to say that he is one of most unique characters that I have ever read. His quiet calmness, his almost dark, but mainly moody self, really had me intrigued and wanting to know everything about him. About his rough life, his daily struggles, and his ability to make everything better whether he knew it or not. And it has to be said… HOLY HOTNESS, the chemistry between Ethan and Wyatt is off the charts!

The bottom line is… if you like new adult, if you like heartwarming and sexy, yet angsty and drama-filled, then Getting Him Back is the book for you. Throw in some humor, a begging ex, and you have a great read on your hands! I am so looking forward to the next installment.

I had so much fun with this book it’s not even funny. Or maybe it is considering I almost bypassed it, based on the "so-so" blurb. I’d like to point out that the story reads a bit different than what you’d think you get, based on said blurb… in a good way.

The opening scene shows us Ethan and his parents saying their good-bye’s as he leaves for college. Wanting to surprise Blake, his boyfriend of two years, he arrives a day earlier than they had arranged and, stumbling across the brand new campus, Ethan not only makes his first friend, Makayla, but also finds Blake on the soccer field.

Instead of the happy, sex-filled, reunion Ethan's imagined, Blake makes a totally different dick-move and dumps him right then and there! The nerves of that guy...!

"You know I love you. But, Ethe, I don’t love you like that anymore."

Dang, that hurts. Seriously, he should have told him before Ethan chose his education based on his boyfriend's enrollment there. What. A. Dick. Move. But okay *sigh* it makes for a good story…

Being miserable thankfully lasts only a short time before Ethan’s new friend Makayla and roommate Connor drag him to a party. But there he sees Blake again.

Blake who tells him he misses him. Blake who still looks so good and still makes his skin tingle.

Thinking they might have another shot at being together, Ethan is dead set on getting Blake back, no matter the cost. The guy had to see what he's lost, right?

Ethan thinks he is in love with Blake, so obviously getting his boyfriend of two years back is all that matters. But he hadn’t calculated Blake’s mysterious roommate Wyatt into his plan. Or the slowly growing attraction between them, as he tries getting information from Wyatt, that might help him getting back with his ex.

Wyatt not only caught Ethan by surprise, but me as well. Wyatt with his skunk-colored hair, his oversized hoodies and those differently colored eyes. He’s sarcastic and keeps to himself, works in the cafeteria kitchen for probably little money and studies hard. He’s also sexy as hell and has an attitude I soak up like a cat the sun. LOVE HIM.

And when they're finally alone together.... *shivers*

With that suggestion hanging between us—Unless you’re gay—I found myself more obsessed with his lips and the way they had that full pout in the middle.

“How do you know for sure?” His voice was thick and his throat bobbed on a swallow.

That bob chased away any idea I’d had about teasing with a Well, what kind of porn do you like? Because his face was open, and he was looking at me like I could give him the answer.

So I did.

Yup. So… After one of the hottest kisses (and more, maybe) Ethan finds himself growing fonder of Wyatt with every passing day, and realizes that perhaps it hadn’t been love the first time around after all.

Blake keeps behaving like an ass, which helps him see the guy for who he really is, or rather, how different everything is with Wyatt.

Getting Wyatt to open up, and maybe even like him back turns out to be a little tricky. He keeps being mysterious and pushes Ethan away...

Gods, but Ethan is such a likable guy, sweet and a bit naive, but not sickeningly so. He does live in his own world, a bit, but I never thought there was anything wrong with that, or the way he envisioned his future to be perfect. I mean, come on! Don’t we all want what we want and how we want it to be?

He learns though, and that’s where this story takes us: Learning and living, making new experiences and learning from bad ones. Maybe find love as well.

I truly loved this book. The characters were all so much fun and just so damn lovable.

Ethan - THE NARRATION - was everything.

The sex was perfect. Yup, that IS important as well.

Oh, and the campuswide Humans vs. Zombies game was a fun addition! :)

It’s a bit cut short at the end, but I’m totally fine with that, seeing that there is a follow-up coming soon!

Since the book is narrated by Ethan, my heart jumped with excitement when the Epilogue gave us a quick peek into WYATT’S mind!! He still remained a bit of a mystery, which we hopefully unravel in the next one.

I need the next installment to be Wyatt’s POV, please?!

Sure, Blake was a bit of a flat character, and his motives shady, lol, but then again, he wasn’t really meant to stay, right? So, yeah, me don’t mind.

This was a total winner for me, and highly recommended!

Getting Him Back by K.A. Mitchell kicks off with such promise. I loved the college shenanigans and setting. Ethan provides a cute and sassy guide through his new college life with all its ups and downs. But things moved too fast for me once Wyatt hit the page.

Wyatt is a tightly wrapped mystery from the get go. Everything is hidden-from his eyes to his heart! I couldn’t wait to peel away the layers. But unfortunately, Ethan and Wyatt skipped right over to the…. Don’t get me wrong the heat was firing on all burners. We all know Mitchell can make sparks fly….

”Actually, I didn’t say anything, I backed him into the wall and started kissing him again. Hard, the way he liked it. The way I liked it. When your lips feel bruised against teeth and you can’t catch your breath because there’s a tongue deep in your mouth and there’s nothing to think about but him.”

I liked these guys, but I just wasn’t emotionally invested right away. Every time Ethan said he liked spending time with Wyatt I couldn’t help wondering why. Besides the physical part—why, Ethan? You guys barely talked. I was just warming up to these guys when it ended. Wyatt’s wicked sense of humor was just starting to grow on me. Those eyes, smirks, and grins of his. I want more!

So even though I wasn’t over-the-moon happy with this part of their story, I’m really looking forward to more. I have a feeling the more time I spend with Ethan and Wyatt—the more I’m gonna love ‘em!

Wow this was so much better than I expected it to be!
It's NA but it's sweet, funny and heavy on the sexy side NA.
I really liked Ethan and Wyatt and I loved that they were not all muscled up with perfect bronze skin. They weren't perfect specimens by any means, they were real and that made them all the more attractive to me.
I loved Ethan's voice and I especially adored Wyatt in all his social awkwardness.

It's kinda Insta-lovey and you have to take a leap to believe that Ethan goes from desperately trying to win Blake back to oh I want Wyatt quite so quickly but none of that took away from my enjoyment of the story.

It's well written, funny and cute. The characters are great and the secondary characters are likeable too.

A pet peeve of mine...it finishes at 86%. I hate that.
However...there will be a sequel and I absolutely can't wait.

It left me with a sappy smile on my face and a serious case of the warm fuzzies.

What do you do when your world explodes with a few words?

Ethan Munroe got dumped, pure and simple. His high school boyfriend, star of the soccer team went off to college and had an epiphany. When Ethan finally joined him for his first year, Blake subtly told him he'd had a change of heart.

Then Wyatt happened...

Heartbroken, Ethan finds an unlikely source to gain access back to Blake. Unfortunately, Wyatt Reese, the odd guy with Heterochromia (two coloured eyes) and a patch of white hair, was Blake's roommate and he wanted nothing to do with the situation.

Between failing Calculus, losing a HVZ campus game and getting over Blake, Ethan now had to deal with his lust for Wyatt while negotiating a relationship neither one of them signed up for.

This was a good Sunday read with lots of emotions and laughs and a good cast of characters. I connected with Wyatt and all that he went through including his earlier life. We watch Ethan grow up during this first semester and turn his life around. A HFN with a sequel.

I really just wanted to rate this book and get going but I felt the need to say a few things about it.

I really liked Ethan a lot. Wyatt, not so much but I guess prickly people just aren't my type.

I understood the premise which led to the title of the book but I must say that premise ended about 20% into it.

The premise rather was about Ethan and Wyatt figuring themselves out...i guess? or Ethan trying to be nice to Wyatt and getting rebuffed? or was it about Wyatt always running away, & then coming back without an explanation? I don't know. It really confused me.

The ending really also threw me way off. The love declarations on both sides were not warranted as these two guys had hardly had a single full conversation without either one walking away and suddenly they love each other? Come On!!!!

That totally killed the story for me.
