YA historical fiction set in the 16th century about Lady Jane Grey and Lord Guilford Dudley.
One of the most tragic and romantic stories in history is that of Lady Jane Grey: to tell this tale for young readers is not an easy task, for the cruelty and greed of the Tudor period, as well as its color and excitement, were all important influences in her life. This, however, Katherine Eyre has done with consummate skill. It is about a 16 year old girl, who, against her wishes, was for nine days queen of England. The author is already well loved by American children for her previous books. This one, so different in its setting from her earlier stories, has the same warmth and human understanding that is found in all her writing. to young people who read this, Jane will become a real person whom they can love and understand.
Educated at the Marlborough School for Girls in California, Eyre wrote for children - Spurs for Antonia, Lottie's Valentine - for young adults - Another Spring: The Story of Lady Jane Gray - and gothic adult fiction - The Chinese Box and The Lute and the Glove.
Doubtless a romanticized version of Jane Grey's life and affection for the husband forced upon her but I like it as much as an adult as I did as a teen.
