married alive is the second novel from Alan Riehl, whose first book, Angel Falls, took the Christian fiction world by storm. married alive is a modern-day fable as the foundation, with a dash of truth and humor enough to keep you wondering how this marriage stays intact. It’s a he said/she said story of Conrad and Jan, a married couple where Conrad (or Conny) is a walking metaphor with just about everything that is wrong with males nowadays. Jan is the pregnant wife who shows a great deal of intelligence but loves her man anyway. The couple is the epitome of the words “trailer trash.” They both narrate every other chapter as if they were talking with a psychiatrist; you get to look through the eyes of Conny at first and find out what really happens during Jan’s chapters. Truth? Sometimes. Enjoyable? I think so. Relatable? You decide.
This is a good book if you're looking for something light hearted to read. It's a good change of pace if you're into reading serious story lines. It does play on stereotypes, but in a way that you like the characters instead of hating them. Only thing not to like is the lead character makes some Dallas Cowboys jokes, but then again, I have to remember he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.
This book was full of fun. I loved it from the start. Again it wasn't my usual read but it was really good. it would cheer anyone up if they were down. I actually enjoyed the end when it just shows that child birth is amazing. Even Conny thought so lol
