Mary Jane Staples is a pseudonym used by British author Reginald Thomas Staples (1911-2005). He is also published under the name Robert Tyler Stevens, R.T. Stevens, and James Sinclair.
Typical Staples back-chat between the MC and everyone else, including officers. Long, slow, comfy story with a rushed ending; all the battle part and "big reveal" felt tacked on. A pleasant read nonetheless.
I persevered with this book till the end but I found it a real effort. This story was about a man called Tim, during the second world war he was based in near a village and mostly had an easy time with his friends and visited his aunt May when he could. It's unusual for a book of this kind to have a male lead character, that fact didn't necessarily put me off. Unfortunately I found it boring.
It was okay. Preferred other books more by this writer. But it has the humour of her other books. It's still worth a read, but I did prefer Adams family books.
This was the first book of MJS i read. I couldn't put it down and read it in a day. Took me a while to get into the way she had written the dialogue but in the end was very easy to read and fun.
