Finally! It appears as if the day that Mac Faraday mystery fans have been waiting for is right around the corner. Less than five days away, Police Chief David O’Callaghan and Chelsea Adams’ wedding is fast approaching. Unfortunately, at the last minute, David discovers that there is one small problem he must resolve before he can say, “I do!”
He needs to divorce his first wife!
In her eleventh installment of the Mac Faraday mysteries, Lauren Carr provides yet another unexpected kink in the love life of Mac Faraday’s half-brother, David O’Callaghan.
“Over the last few books, readers should now know that weddings in Deep Creek Lake just aren’t going to go as planned,” Lauren explains, in referring to her best-selling and critically acclaimed Three Days to Forever and A Wedding and a Killing.
Cancelled Vows opens with one of Lauren Carr’s trademark twists when David O’Callaghan and his fiancée are turned down for a wedding license because David is already married—shocking news not only to the bride, but the groom as well. “Nothing throws a damper on an upcoming wedding like finding out that the groom is already married,” Lauren says.
Of course, fans of Lauren Carr’s internationally best-selling mystery series must be wondering which lucky lady did the dashing David O’Callaghan marry while drunk in Vegas. After all, Mac’s half-brother has been romantically involved with quite a few women in the previous ten installments of her best-selling mystery series. “All I’ll tell you is that David’s wife is someone fans of the Mac Faraday Mysteries have met,” she says.
While Lauren isn’t saying who the lucky (Or should we say unlucky?) lady is, she will provide a clue. “David has to go to New York City to divorce her.” Sounds simple? Right? Nothing is ever that easy in a Lauren Carr mystery.

In Cancelled Vows by Lauren Carr we are back to visit Mac Faraday and other familiar characters. I love a stand alone series with returning characters. I feel a connection with them and want to find out what trouble they have found now. Cancelled Vows is a clean romance with fantastic mysteries galore.

Warning: Those drive through weddings in Las Vegas are real!

David O’Callaghan, a Spencer police chief, best friend and half brother to Mac Faraday, finds himself jumping from the frying pan to the fire when he heads to New York City.

Murder rears its ugly head and Mac Faraday and Gnarly, his K-9 cohort, rush to find answers. Gnarly is quite the character. He has a big attitude to go with his big personality and is a bit of a klepto. I can’t help but laugh at his and Mac’s antics. I mean, what kind of dog gets a dishonorable discharge from the service? Nice touch, Lauren, and its makes me love him more.

Curiosity and mystery from the opening page. I’m trying to figure out why…

I like the internet angle and internet trolls. I have heard nightmares about them and they come alive on Lauren Carr’s pages.

I am not liking David very much right now. Can the whore dog change my mind? I am liking Ali Hudson though. She is a witty investigative journalist, with a slew of Texas sayings and a determination to learn the truth.

Murders are adding up. The plot thickens and the suspect pool takes a twist I didn’t see coming. I love it. The pacing and my fear for the characters makes the suspense mount.

I love a happy ever after and this is great one! Cancelled Vows by Lauren Carr is one of her best…yet.

I received an ARC of Cancelled Vows by Lauren Carr in return for an honest review.

I really enjoy this series about Mac Faraday, and his crew of characters, animal and human! I always enjoy my visits to the fictitious Spencer Mountain, at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. Talking about the characters, they are like visiting old friends.

The story had some major plot twists, and a few mental cases here and there. This story drew me right in from page one, I was like...what? How can that be? I had to read on to find the answers to those questions. I liked the fast paced action, always thinking I had things figured out, and the story changed direction.

Mac and Gnarly were on their toes at every twist and turn, as usual. Gotta love that Gnarly! He keeps the smile, in smile on my face... It was a fun joy ride following the characters throughout this story. Even though this is a book in a series, it is a stand-alone book as well. This was another 5 star reading experience for me. This book is a part of my Kindle library.

So here we are again. Back with the gang. And another wedding is looming. Only one problem. The groom just found out he’s still married to his first wife. Oops.

I’ve read several books in this series and, since I’ve missed one here or there, I can’t share too much about the events going on without spoiling the other books for you.

All of my favorite characters make appearances. Some are brief cameos. One in particular, a bad/good assassin, was a nice surprise.

And the pets are back too. These characters view their furry companions as members of the family. Even the giant tarantula. Gnarly, a German Shepherd, has a prominent role in this book. He’s such a rascal. You don’t dare turn your back on a morsel, or it’ll magically disappear and Gnarly will be looking at you with innocent eyes and a wagging tail.

Lots of hopping back and forth from one side of the country to the other keeps the action escalated and solving the mystery elusive.

And you’ll love the ending. I’m still grinning.

Even though I’ve jumped around in this series and missed some books, it was easy to jump back in as each book has different mysteries and characters to focus on. There’s also a list of the characters with a short bio in the beginning of the book to refresh your memory.

Another page turner in the series. And I’ll be ready for the next one.

I received this book for my honest review.

Over the last few years I have become of big fan of light, easy, fun murder mysteries. It's the perfect way to relax after a long hard day. You need great characters, a twisted plot, some laughs, some love, some intrigue - and you shouldn't be able to guess the whodunit until the last few pages.

Author Lauren Carr offers just that. I reviewed three of her books previously, so when I went on a recent vacation I loaded the entire Mac Faraday series into my e-reader and started over from the very beginning. If you love this type of book I suggest you do the same - start at the beginning and enjoy the ride. In fact is now offering a great deal on the full set of 10 e-books featuring all the previous titles in this series.

Cancelled Vows is book 11 in the Mac Faraday Mystery series and is every bit as engaging as the previous ten. The plot takes us away from Spencer Inn to New York City. While the initial reason is for Police Chief David O’Callaghan to annul a previous unknown marriage - think Vegas, alcohol and a drive through chapel - a murder occurs while there that pulls Mac in. He just can't resist a puzzle like this.

From love to bodies in walls to murder - this newest novel in the series is as intriguing as the last. Where Carr comes up with all her plots, I have no idea. But she continues to offer new and interesting twists and an easy to read style that is perfect for relaxing after a long, hard day.

Warning, this one is a page-turner that will keep you up late at night even when you should really, really be going to sleep because tomorrow will be yet another long day.

Lauren Carr has created a series that can easily rival with some of the big names. That’s probably because there is weight to her book, weight that has been typically stripped out of mass produced, quickly turned around mysteries and thrillers that are meant to sell a story but not necessarily a brand or a set of characters. The pain-staking attention given to the various layers of the plot remind me a little of older mystery books I used to read, which were so much more satisfying that the mass produced titles we are bombarded with nowadays.

Well-written, engaging, and witty, the only complaint I have about this page-turner is the romance between two of its characters who fall in love within hours of meeting one another. On a personal level, while attraction can be instantaneous, to fall in love with someone takes a little longer than a few hours; saying “I love you” after less than a day cheapens the sentiment, which is a pity because in all other aspects, this book is not cheap or doesn’t cheapen anything.

Then again, this is a personal sentiment that I was easily able to momentarily shelf to enjoy the book, and enjoy it I did.

Although I do think that the author owes me one for the sleep she stole from me.

I became acquainted with Lauren Carr's writing for the first time in 2015, I was immediately "hooked"! From the first page, Lauren Carr captivates the reader's interest and maintains it until the very end of the story...this book did not disappoint!
The story begins in a waiting line for a marriage license and continues to propel forward from there into many complicated situations. Will this wedding really take place? The reader is kept guessing until the end. Further complications involving murder are also included. Each time the reader feels he/she knows who did it, an other suspect arrives on the scene, until it is no longer clear who is the culprit. The last few pages is the first the reader discovers the answers to the main questions presented through the plot.
I love book which keeps one guessing!
The Book Cover and Title are both eye-catching and fitting. The characters are very realistic and, at times, stirs intense emotions in the reader. The scenes are easily visualized through descriptive wording. The story maintains a smooth flow throughout the tale and new characters and situations are creatively added. The story has a definite ending yet leaves the reader anxiously hoping for more in the series.

WELL? THIS ONE STARTED OUT WITH A WTF’s GOING ON MOMENT. POOR DAVID’S LOVE LIFE WAS LIKE HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF, A REAL SON LIKE FATHER THINGY. EARLY ON I DID GET THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TWO CHARACTERS BUT AS USUAL WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE END TO FIND OUT IF YOU’RE RIGHT (this is book #18 I’ve read by this author). I LOVED THE COVER ON THIS ONE, THAT WOULD MAKE A GREAT WEDDING CAKE FOR REAL. ;D

Lauren Carr in her new book, “Cancelled Vows” Book Eleven in the Mac Faraday Mystery series published by Acorn Book Services gives us another adventure with David O’Callaghan and Mac Faraday.

From the back cover: Police Chief David O’Callaghan and Chelsea Adams’ wedding day is fast approaching. Unfortunately, at the last minute, David discovers that there is one small problem to be taken care of before he can walk down the aisle—divorce his first wife!

Lauren Carr takes fans of the Mac Faraday mysteries to the Big Apple in this nail biting adventure. In Cancelled Vows, David, Mac, and Gnarly, too, rush to New York City to dissolve David’s marriage to an old girlfriend—and he’s got five days to get it done. When murder throws up a road block, it is up to David’s best man, Mac Faraday, and Gnarly, K9-in-waiting, to sort through the clues to get David to the church in time!

What is it going to take for Police Chief David O’Callaghan to marry Chelsea Adams? Well Ms. Carr gives us a clue: “David has to go to New York City to divorce her.” Sounds simple? Right? Nothing is ever that easy in a Lauren Carr mystery. This is a complex plot where you are rooting for David, Chelsea and Mac to solve this mystery so that he can get his divorce. “Cancelled Vows” is loaded with twists and turns and red herrings that will leave you guessing all the while you are flipping pages to find out what happens next. Take the phone off the hook and make yourself a big bowl of popcorn because once you get started you will not want to put this book down until you actually finish. This is a great murder mystery that is going to keep you guessing. I look forward to the next adventure.

Spencer, Maryland Police Chief David O’Callaghan, son of the late police chief Patrick plus friend and half-brother to Mac Faraday, looks forward to his marriage with Chelsea Adams, who suffers from epilepsy and relies on her service dog Molly for support. However, it turns out that he had already married and didn’t divorce Yvonne Harding, his old flame, old friend on Deep Creek Lake, and host of Crime Watch at the Zenith News Channel in New York City. Thus, David, Mac, and the latter’s dog Gnarly, the only canine dishonorably discharged from the United States Army, adventure to the Big Apple to dissolve the former’s marriage, and has a time limit of five days.

Preceding the prologue is a quote from James Dobson, a notable psychologist, with the advice that people marry not the person one can think they can live with, but rather the person they think they can’t live without. The story itself begins in medias res, at East River in New York City, where Dan Sauer collapses onto the pavement, bloody from gunshot wounds, with David being responsible for the person’s condition. Then the story takes readers back two days at the County Clerk’s Office in Oakland, Maryland, where David is happy to be engaged to Chelsea, with a clerk named Edna about to certify their union only for the discovery that the former is already wed to Yvonne Harding.

The first chapter exposes some backstory on one of the novel’s settings, Spencer, Maryland, which was named after its founder, Agatha Christie-eseque author Robin Spencer being among the establisher’s descendants. The book is generally decent, although there were some slow portions and forgettable parts, and keeping track of the characters can be somewhat troublesome, given the lengthy list of dramatic personae, although a list of them appears before the main text. Perhaps the easy of forgetfulness can be attributed to the book being eleventh in its series. Even so, it’s far from a bad book, and this reviewer would definitely recommend it to those looking for a good thriller, and evidently those who enjoyed its predecessors.

I am a first-time reader of Lauren Carr novels. This is a fast-paced whodunit full of colorful characters, quirky developments, NYC police corruption, murder, humor, and romance.

Among the main characters is Mac Faraday, a retired homicide detective who has inherited a fortune, his half-brother David O'Callaghan, Chief of Police in a small town, and Mac's German Shepherd, Gnarly.

My favorite character is Gnarly, who is a trained military and law-enforcement officer – the only K-9 dishonorably discharged from the US army! When he eats a box containing two wedding rings (he's a thief), it's a waiting game to see if they will "appear".

My second favorite character (and there are a lot of them) is Ali Hudson, a lanky Texan brunette with a southern drawl, plenty of "y"alls." Not only beautiful, she has a biting wit and a wicked sense of humor. In reference to a murder suspect, she says "when it comes to competence, he couldn't knock a hole in the wind with a sackful of hammers." Or, says Ali about herself, "I'm so hungry I could eat the sign off a hamburger stand."

All in all, the plot is good; the characters are real, with plenty of twists and turns in their personal lives. I appreciated the character list at the outset as I frequently referred to it.

As you can expect from a mystery, bodies pile up. However, I was surprised at the descriptive violence of some of the deaths. And, although there are no explicit sex scenes, there is verbal sexual innuendo between Ali and David O'Callaghan.

This book will appeal to mystery lovers and Mac Faraday fans alike.

Cancelled Vows by Lauren Carr is the second book of hers I have read. This is the first time I have met Mac Faraday and read one of his mysteries. One thing I really like about Ms. Carr’s writing is that even though she is writing a murder mystery and some really bad stuff has happened and is happening, she is able to throw in some lighthearted moments and ease the tension a bit. I also highly enjoy her prominent placement of animal characters in her books. And Gnarly, Faraday’s dog who is forced to go to New York with him due to an unforeseen, unfortunate situation, really steals the show for me. What a stinker and a hero he is.

The only reason Mac Faraday and his half- brother, David O’Callaghan have to make this impromptu trip to New York City is for David to divorce his wife, who neither David or the wife, even knew they were married, so that David can finally marry his high school sweetheart Chelsea. As easy as that sounds, both Mac and David are unaware of the danger that they are walking into and how high up the chain of command it goes. With twists and turns a plenty in every imaginable way, I at times didn’t know who to root for especially in the romance department. Not knowing who to trust and wondering how our heroes were going to get back home alive and in one piece makes for one exciting adrenaline rush of a read. I look forward to more of Ms. Carr’s work.
I received a copy for an honest review from iRead Book Tours and the opinions are my own.

Content: Some sexual innuendo, some language, and violence, nothing gratuitous in nature.

Cancelled Vows is the 11th book in the Mac Faraday Mystery series, and although I’ve only read one other book in this series, I can tell you that Lauren Carr’s books are stand-alone and are enjoyable even though one hasn’t read the previous books. And best of all, once you meet the cast of characters in her series (she has more than one) you just get hooked on her books!

In this installment Mac, who is the best man at his half-brother’s upcoming wedding, has the task of getting David to New York City so he can divorce the first wife he didn’t know he had. Yep! Carr knows how to infuse humor in her stories. What happens in NYC is adventurous as both brothers get embroiled in a murder they must solve.

What I like about Carr’s plots is that although the bad guys seem obvious, there is always much more than what we expect leading to plot twists and complex sub-plots that makes me wonder how she keeps it all straight because every loose thread is tied up by the end. This makes for a very satisfying ending.

Carr’s mysteries are fun, light-hearted reading filled with strong yet vulnerable characters. One of my favorite characters is Gnarly, the German Shepherd who used to belong to the US Army. His antics are hilarious and his skills in helping solve mysteries invaluable, of course.

If you’re looking for a break from a more dramatic novel, pick up one of Lauren Carr’s mysteries. After reading just a few, you’ll quickly become a fan. I know I am.

STARS

I look forward to new books by Lauren Carr so when I received this ebook last night I had to read it right then. Cancelled Vows does not disappoint. It is full of mystery, drama, humor and full of surprises.

I love the characters. Mac Faraday is a retired homicide detective who inherited 270 million dollars the day of his divorce unexpected. He also found a half brother David O'Callaghan who is Spencer police Chief. He was also left
Gnarly a German Shepherd who is smart. he was trained by Army and kicked out. He can take bad guys out and eats anything. Gnarly is also a thief.

The plot is good. I was not sure what would happen next. David and Chelsea Adams were getting their marriage license when David found out he was married. He did not know he had married anyone. So David, Mac and Gnarly flew up to New York City with divorce papers. Chelsea was hurt and is not talking to David. When they are up there they find dead body and trouble. So the race is on to get David a divorce and prove he is not a murder before his wedding in just days away.

I did not put the book down till I had finished reading it.

I was given this ebook to read by the Author Lauren Carr and in return I agreed to give a honest review.

Cancelled Vows is book 11 in the Mac Faraday mystery series. I don't know how I have been missing out on this author but I plan to catch up.

Since this was book 11, I was concerned I would be lost in a sea of people and how they connect. But the author was so kindly enough to give a cast of characters at the beginning of the book. The books are stand alone, which also helps.

I have to say I was hooked from the first page! This is a book that will cause you to read late into the night because there is so much action, you have to know what happens next! It's a just one more chapter kind of book and first thing you know you are halfway through the story.

Having lived in Maryland and visited Deep Creek Lake added to my interest in the book. I loved the style of writing by the author. She threw in so many twists and turns, I was changing my opinion of who the killer was in every chapter. The suspense was perfect.

I definitely plan on adding the author to my list of favorites and look forward to reading more of her books. This is a book that I highly recommend if you are looking for mystery with lots of action!

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from iRead Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed are 100% mine.

Cancelled Vows by Lauren Carr was an interesting book, to say the least. This is one of those books that nothing goes right from the start and at times I had to laugh because I couldn’t see some of the things happening but other parts I could totally see happening. Like when Gnarly ate the wedding rings I could totally see that happening but then you find out the David is already married when he goes to get his marriage license, but he claims that he had no idea that he got married years before. I enjoyed this story but at times, I wish I had others books in this series before so that I would know more of the backstory but you can just pick this book up and understand what is happening and who the characters all are. I really enjoyed this book even though at times all I could think about is how there is no way that anything like this could happen. This is the first book I have read by this author and I am for sure going to be adding more books by this author to my pile of books I want to read. I think pretty much everyone would love this book and have a good time reading it.

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

This is Lauren Carr’s eleventh Mac Faraday novel, and only the second one I’ve read but it definitely stands on its own. When I have time, I plan on reading the previous ones. I like Lauren Carr’s writing style because it’s easy to follow, and I especially like the dialogue.

There are a lot of characters in Cancelled Vows but there is a Cast of Characters listed at the beginning which is a great idea. I like Mac Faraday and his wife, Archie Monday, and I love Mac’s dog, Gnarly!

There is a murder mystery that Mac’s brother, David, needs to solve when he goes to New York to get a divorce from a wife he didn’t even realize he had. The murder is just the first twist along the way and it becomes apparent that David may not make it to his own wedding. There’s never a dull moment when it comes to Mac Faraday mysteries!

I definitely recommend Cancelled Vows. If you like mystery and intrigue, it’s one you don’t want to miss.

Each chapter is a heart thumping to read

Miss Lauren Carr did amazing job in this book Cancelled Vows. I LOVED how the cover is. It looks so pretty. It is more prettier when you read the book and found out the mystery.

Each chapter is a heart thumping to rad. There is never a dull moment when you read this author's writing. I have been a new fan since I read my first book of her. Since then I am looking forward to read her writings.

I LOVED that there is a list of characters that help you who they are and what part they have in the story. It helps a lot and you are closer to solve the mystery.

Cancelled Vows teaches us unexpected problems. It also teaches us that LOVE is mysterious. Sometimes we solving a problem leads us to who we really are and why we CANCELLED VOWS to lead us to our true love.

I received a paperback copy of the book to read. My review is 100% honestly mine.

I enjoyed reading this novel. Unlike other murder mysteries it was not filled with nudity, sexual content, bad language, or gore. This novel is a murder mystery that children getting into murder mysteries can enjoy. I personally would recommend this book to those 12 and older simply because of the length of the book and the complicated plot. However this book would be suitable for mature younger children if an adult was reading it to them. I enjoyed the added aspect of a k-9 dog to the murder mystery. I liked the author's writing style and felt that she did an amazing job spinning a tale of murder without adult concepts.

I really enjoyed this book - not only is it a wonderful murder mystery but also a will they/ won't they romance? Coming from the UK I found it difficult to believe that someone could get married without knowing that they had, yet I guess that anything is possible in Vegas? This is just the beginning of a fast-paced story with some wonderful characters, not least Gnarly the ex-army dog who is just fabulous and the star of the show for me.

In the beginning I found it hard to like David as he'd let his fiancee down badly in the past. He really tried to make amends though and grew on me. The ending was totally satisfactory but not at all what you might expect even if you were hoping for a happy ending. Loved it! I really hope there is more from this author.

Great ending

Great story, lots of twists and turns. David and Chelsea are about to get married but can't get a marriage license until David gets a divorce from a wife he didn't know how married! David, Mac and Gnarly head to New York to get the divorce papers signed.

There they encounter a new murder or two, an old murder and a very old murder. And make it home in time for Archie and Mac to go on the honeymoon they arranged for David and Chelsea. Why didn't David and Chelsea go on their honeymoon? Read this book!!!!

Read the whole series! Warning: do not read in bed at night unless you do not have to get up in the morning!

Book Tour: Cancelled Vows Lauren Carr has done it once again. What book this was? I was again guessing what was happening. So many murders that going on and all starts once Mac and David show up in New York.We meet new characters in the book. A famous author has disappeared. What has happened to her? Ali is worked at the news center. Who is Ali Huston?David and Ali Huston seem to be on the run? Who wants her dead and why? You will need to read the book to find out.I like the book because it makes me keep guessing who the bad guy is. It keeps my attention as well. I can not stop reading this book once you start. This is one great mystery and an adventure.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters in the book are colorful, but not over the top. Like most people I know in life they find themselves in some odd situations. Like finding out they are already married when they go to get their marriage license. I can totally see something like this happening to a couple of people I know.

I really like that even though this book is part of a series. You don't have to read the entire series in order to enjoy the book. This is a real plus for me. I'm just not a big fan of series. But I will probably look for more Mac Faraday stories in the future since I found this one so entertaining.

An end to one chapter and the beginning of another!

Lauren Carr needs to be commended on this entry in her Mac Faraday mysteries. Having followed all the stories in the series, I should have realized that things would not go smoothly in this episode. The plot is tight and the characters are well developed. There are really 2 storylines going on and the reader is actively engaged from the first page. You will enjoy this novel and if you haven't read any of the other books, you will race to your bookstore to get them, I promise you!

Mac has to have David go the New York and divorce his wife before they can get married. They don’t have much time to get this done. His fiancé is not talking to him and he can’t even remember getting married.
Things never go as planned for wedding or anything much anymore. A murder pops up to make the days to get the divorce even shorter. Can it be done?
The book is full of mystery, drama, humor and surprises. You won’t know where to turn or what to believe. A real page turner.

Carr delivers another excellent light mystery, this one a bit of a romp in the big apple. Perhaps because the setting is a lesser element of the story, character is more important, and boy howdy are there some humdingers. I believe Carr channeled Dan Rather in writing Dallas Walker's dialog.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the Mac Faraday novels. They are detailed and gripping mysteries with interesting characters. I am surprised at how inexpensive this series has been considering it is so well written.

Argh David, why???

I just don't get why the series went in this direction with David's character. The plot was good and I kept me guessing but most of the book was me yelling at David or rolling my eyes at his stupidity
