Hard Candy #5

Boiling Point

Rate this book
The Hard Candy series continues with Denny's friend Drake. Drake is a hard core top in the BDSM world, while Cain's friend Jeren is a graphic artist who does horror books and lives on cigarettes and coffee with the occasional whiskey thrown in. They couldn't be more different. Still, Denny and Cain think their friends would be great together and they set them up at a dinner party.

Now that they've met, will Drake and Jeren prove Denny and Cain right? And could they burn hotter for each other than even their friends know?

Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and persuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago."

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

A little more hard-core than many of Sean Michael's BDSM stories, this one contains almost cover-to-cover sex, an interesting budding relationship, and a few forays into pain play. However, it is more than clear that the sub, Jeren, is the one initiating it, so there is no feeling of coercion. It made the whole setup a lot "softer" than it otherwise could have been. The Dom, Drake, is growly and strong, but he comes across as a man trying to do the right thing for Jeren. There are a few experiments with other kinks as well, and lots of talk about piercings.

Jeren is an artist, not always with both feet on the ground, and badly needs a keeper. He has very specific needs, but he won’t trust just anyone to fulfill them. Seeing how dangerous that could be with the wrong man, I applaud him being cautious. But once he gets going with Drake? There seems to be no stopping him.

Drake is pushing for some sort of a relationship from the moment he meets Jeren, set-up or not. He has no idea what he is in for, but his careful, responsible nature allows both men to find their way forward in steps right for them.

While this sort of a relationship (and this story) will not be for everyone, if you are interested in venturing a little beyond the softer side of BDSM, this might be a good novella to experiment with.

A little more hard core than many of Sean Michael's BDSM stories, this one contains (as expected) almost cover-to-cover sex, an interesting and less usual budding relationship, and a few forays into pain play, which is a little less usual still. However, it is more than clear that the sub, Jerod, is the one initiating it, so there is no feeling of coercion. It made the whole setup a lot "softer" than it otherwise could have been. I'm sorry but this is not BDSM. There is nothing Safe, Sane or Consensual about it. Semi consensual. No talk before. The so called dom ignores the word no. Never sits down to discuss limits or a contract. Totally ignores him when Jeren tells him that something is off limits. Just keeps telling him that he's "mine". SMH ....

A nice continuation of the series

This was a little more hardcore than the earlier books but still sweet like candy. If you love sean Michael like I do you won't be disappointed.

This kinky short is a spin-off from the Cherry Sours triology, starring Denny and Cain. Drake is invited for dinner, and although he is a friend of Denny’s, he’s much more hardcore into the lifestyle. Jeren, another comic book artist, and friend of Cain’s, is there. Drake knows he’s being set-up and is not too happy, but once he meets Jeren, he senses something in him and makes a move.

It’s cute to see Denny and Cain again, who are still as sweet as ever, which induced eye-rolling on Drake’s part. However Jeren is not like Cain. He keeps insisting that to Drake, and at first you aren’t sure if he means he’s not into the D/s lifestyle, but no, that’s not it. Drake’s comics are dark, violent horror stories, and that is in part how he lets his need for he darkness out. Along with a few other kinks that he keeps absolutely hidden from the world. He lets no one into his real life, no one sees the corsets, the piercings, the kinky sex toys, until Drake. The fact that he’s letting Drake into that part of his life freak Jeren out.

Drake and Jeren were perfect for each other. Drake could give Jeren what he needed. He didn’t think Jeren was a freak, which Jeren considered himself. He found the piercings (self-done eeeek) hot and sexy, and was able to help Jeren settle. In rather typical Sean Michael fashion, Jeren needed a keeper and Drake was happy to step up and take on the job. Also there is tons of sex, the only time you see Jeren and Drake together they seem to be having sex I would have liked to see them interacting outside of the bedroom, but I still enjoyed them as a couple and it was what I expected. It was also fun to see Denny and Cain happy, blissful and hair-free.

When you are in the mood for some kinky fun with piercing, and a bit of a darker bent to the story it’s a good choice with some typical hallmarks of Sean Michael’s writing which can be comforting in itself.

Drake and Jeren are set up by their mutual friends Denny and Cain. Both men have been searching for something a little more hard-core, something specific. Can they find their way together?

This is a scorching hot short story. While it’s the fifth – and last – in the Hard Candy collection, I was pleased to find it effectively a stand-alone story and there’s no need to have read the previous installments to really enjoy this one. Drake and Jeren are both interesting characters that I really enjoyed. They compliment each other well and this is evident in their near instant chemistry and the way they slot together so easily.

Jeren has a number of body piercings and both needs and enjoys the kink. Derek is a strong Dominant and between them they manage to burn the pages up together. Readers looking for something a little more gentle – or exploratory, rather than explosive – won’t find what they need here. Despite this I found the connection and need from both men to be really emotional and caring. I didn’t find their desire for BDSM or what they did together to be edgy or over the top. They were still both safe, sane and consensual so I feel readers wanting just a little more bite to their erotica should find this very satisfying.

With toys and plenty of BDSM elements this is a hot and sexy short story that I really enjoyed. A little harder than many styles out there this won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but I found it well worth the read and a great, sexy story with two interesting and vibrant characters. A great read.

Cover - I'm not completely sure what's going on here, but I think this is a representation of the kind of graphic art one of the characters does.

MC's - Jeren, graphic artist, and Drake, a, um, Dom. Story is told in their alternating 3rd person POV's.

You mostly know what you're getting when you pick up a Sean Michael book, and this was no exception. Except that it is edgier than a lot of her others, not as gentle. Which in my mind is good, because I do like BDSM and I do like when there's more to it than a spanking and hands tied to the headboard.

Drake and Jeren are introduced over a dinner at the home of a couple of other Sean Michael characters, Denny and Cain (who have their own series of stories). Jeren is the tortured artist and Drake is just what he needs.

After the two are introduced, the rest of the story is pretty much sex. Included: corsets, pierced bits, anal plug and enema play, some pain. Throughout the scenes, Jeren comes to terms with who he is, sexually, by learning that Drake can balance out everything he wants.

This is one of the better recent Sean Michael books.

This was a yummy teaser; a bit darker and better written than SM's other BDSM books but still lacking enough to fully satiate you.

A hot, short story that I wish was longer, so it could have developed the couple's relationship more. I liked both characters and would have loved to see them as a couple doing something besides sex. As it is their relationship appears to be based entirely on compatible sexual tastes. An HEA is implied but it felt more like a HFN story to me as there are no words of love exchanged, we are not shown that they have anything in common besides sex, and they are not living together at the end of the story. I'd love to see more of these two! Despite the fact that I really want a definite HEA in the stories I read, I thought this to be a great story.

Great read, different, I enjoyed the character of Jeren immensely. The plot of course follows SM's usual instant attraction turns to a permanent relationship by dawn strategy- but I like that, too. IF you like SM, you'll like this.

There are 5 short stories in this series - the first 4 are about Cain and Denny who are very sweet and toppy, but this story is about 2 of their friends who more hardcare. Sexy, hot and very entertaining!

Сладкий-сладкий стиль Шона Майкла и хардкорные кинки, которые он обычно не пишет. Мммммм, дайте два. И закурить после прочтения :))

Heavier BDSM then I am up for is the only thing that brings this down a star for me. Stronger to me then much of the hammer series. The writing is excellent, very detailed and descriptive.
