Rory Sutton was tired; she had just landed at Sydney International Airport after a long flight from London. But finally seeing her grandfather after her three years of travelling more than made up for it – they chatted easily in the limousine and detoured to the office on their way home to Kirribilly as her Pa had something he needed to do. But as they were exiting the vehicle at the office, Rory was snatched out of the path of a runaway vehicle by a stranger and then her grandfather suffered a heart attack.

The man who had come to Rory’s rescue was Detective Sergeant Vince Maroney, currently on leave. Rory’s grandfather had told her that her half-brother Jamie was missing; now after what had just happened, suddenly Vince Maroney was hired as her bodyguard. Rory didn’t want to be told by anyone what she could and could not do but she didn’t want to worry her grandfather while he was recuperating in the hospital…

Vince wasn’t sure what he was getting into with the Sutton family – the secrets and lies; innuendoes and accusations were everywhere. And Vince’s past was painful to say the least. He tried to remain professional – he was determined to protect Rory then go on his way. But Rory was getting under his skin; and then there was the danger she seemed to be in. There was much more happening under the surface than they knew – could both Rory and Vince discover the truth before it was too late?

By Her Side is Aussie author Lizzy Chandler’s second novel, and it’s a great story of suspense and mystery; a police procedural set in Sydney and the Blue Mountains with an intense pace which starts at the very beginning. My only criticism is the continual sexual fantasising by the two main characters which spoiled it a little for me. But the gripping nature of the well-crafted plot kept me reading until the very satisfying conclusion. I have no hesitation in recommending By Her Side to lovers of the romantic suspense genre.

Detective Sergeant Vince Maroney is on a well earned break from his unrelenting work schedule when he saves Rory Whitfield from the path of a speeding vehicle. Rory’s grandfather is the wealthy Edward Sutton. Sutton now feels that Rory needs a bodyguard and he is convinced Vince is just the man for the job. Rory definitely doesn’t agree but maybe Det. Vince Maroney can help her find her brother Jamie who has been missing for weeks, and he’s pretty damn good looking as well.

I loved this bodyguard to lover romance read. Vince was a tortured soul but whom better to soothe him than the lovely Rory, who was suffering from her own broken heart.
The story is told from changing POV which encourages the reader to empathise with each character’s angst.

By Her Side starts as a slow paced emotion packed read but as the tension builds and the mystery of Jamie’s disappearance escalates so does the pace. With breath holding suspense and a twist I didn’t see coming this is a must read for all lovers of the romantic suspense genre.

With my thanks to the publisher via Netgalley for my copy to read and review.

I was looking for something different to the Australian Rural Romances I've read lately and this one was a perfect choice, a bit of romantic suspense.
Aurora Whitfield or Rory as she's known as, has been travelling and working overseas for the past few years and virtually after being picked up from the airport by her grandfather Edward Sutton, he is involved in a hit and run incident and suffers a heart attack. Vincent Maroney is just about the enter the Sutton Offices to pick up his ex wife's belongings when he witnesses the accident....or was it an accident. The undercover cop who is having some downtime is talked into being Rory's bodyguard by her grandfather. With a strong attraction between them, can he keep her safe or safe from himself.
I really enjoyed that this was two mature adults attracted to each other with the common goal of finding what has happened to Rory's half brother Jamie, who has disappeared. Vince's ex wife Gina was Jamie's PR and she was killed in a car accident in the Blue Mountains and as they delve further they realise that it may not have been an accident. This was a quick, light read that kept my interest till the suspenseful ending.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for a copy to read and review.

I already knew Lizzy Chandler could write - her debut romance Snowy River Man offered the depth and romance I lean towards in the genre. By Her Side is a confident, sexy read that keeps the will-they-won't-they - momentum going ... and when the two get together, boy do fireworks fly. Spirited characters, believable and sensitively written conflict, and achingly good chemistry make this a terrific example of the genre and Chandler's talent. More please!

When I first read the book description of ‘By Her Side’, I just knew I had to read this book. A story about a rich girl and a handsome bad-ass bodyguard.. Sigh.. I was hooked. So I couldn’t wait to start reading this book.

‘By Her Side’ is a great romantic suspense. The book is written from both main characters their point of view, which gives the reader a good sense of their character. The story is from the beginning very interesting and keeps you want to keep on reading. Both main characters were also really likeable. We have Rory Sutton Whitfield, a privileged young woman who doesn’t take her wealth for granted. And Vince Maroney, a detective who has had a troubled past and makes sure he lives his life without getting close to anyone. The chemistry between Rory and Vince was really fun to read about. I loved their interactions and the moments when you just wanted them to kiss already.

The suspense part was fun to read about and really well thought of. I didn’t expect what was going on until the very end of the book, and it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. It was also really fun to read about a privileged character who really didn’t act like she was a ‘princess’. Rory really cared for other people and never took her wealth for granted.
Although Vince is Rory’s bodyguard he really didn’t have to do a lot of bodyguard worthy things. I mean, it would have been better is he was just someone who looked after her, instead of a professional bodyguard. I mean, Rory didn’t seem to be in real danger for most of the book. But the whole bodyguard idea definitely sounded good.

But there were also a view disappointments. For one, this book is very descriptive but when Rory and Vince finally give in to their feelings it felt a little rushed. And man I just wanted more details! And the second thing that was a little disappointing was the way it ended. I really wanted to know more and it felt like we didn’t really get to find out what everything that really happened. Especially with Rory’s brother, Jamie.

Overall this was a good romantic suspense. I was hooked to the pages and I really loved the characters. Definitely a fun read I would recommend, especially on a cold winter night!

Vince Maroney's path is set on a collision course with a wealthy woman when he saves Rory Whitfield and her grandfather from a near-accident. What appears to be an isolated incident however, is soon revealed to be a tangled web of apparent coincidences when Rory's half-brother vanishes and a series of clues turn up that might account for his disappearance. Hired soon after as Rory's bodyguard, Vince realises that his past is as entwined with Rory's special set of circumstances, unleashing the demons that he hadn't really managed to lock away.

A deftly written, well-plotted suspense story that was surprisingly engaging once I got through a quarter of it, 'By Her Side' threw out a good mystery and a sufficient number of red-herrings to keep me occupied enough to try putting the pieces together on my own. The story is brought to life in stunning Sydney and its surrounds and Lizzy Chandler paints a vivid yet thorny picture of the urban environment to the criminal activity that had seeped into the ranks of law enforcement. Yet her believably decent characters smooth the way out - without extremes of emotions that resemble a soap opera -, hurtling their way to a tense conclusion and an altogether satisfying ending.

I wish to thank NetGalley, Escape Publishing and Lizzy Chandler for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The synopsis of the story is accurate and therefore I won't repeat. I like when authors provide an accurate summary of their stories.

My first impressions of the story was that it felt a little flat and didn't quite feel "real". Stories need to pull me in, but at 58% into the story I have the same sexual angst between our lead characters Vince and Rory with a little addition of maybe they like each other as well as being attracted to each other. The "mystery" or suspense hadn't been provided with any new clues past the ones the story initially started out with. There is the appearance of new clues, but nothing past what the reader is suspecting. Nothing is happening to really pull you into the novel.

When I sat down to write my review I noted that I had compiled a long list of negatives before I got to a shorter list of positives. Overall I liked the story, was glad I read it and wanted to present a positive review and still point out what didn't work for me. There are positives; some of them just come with a "however".

I loved that this was taking place in Australia, I wanted Australia to come to life, but it didn't and I was a little disappointed.

I liked the characters in the story although I wished that secondary characters had been better fleshed out. I really liked that Vince is a hero but just doesn't see himself that way because life hasn't been that good to him. His character really works well in this story line and I liked all the facets of his background. Ms Chandler did a really nice job of developing his character.

I liked that although there was instant attraction, they didn't jump into bed right away. Vince actually tried to be the good guy thinking he wasn't good enough for her. Rory was a strong female who fought for what she wanted. Their two characters worked really well together.

The plot is a good one and the way they discover information works well. It's the pacing and lack of exciting scenes that take away from the suspense and plot advancement.

There seems to be more information provided on Rory's clothing than on the plot. We get notifications of every time she changes her clothes except one which is the one time the change is required to make the events make since. Maybe I missed that particular clothing change, but she goes from linen pants to taking her leathers down to cutoff and tank. Why is that what I'm noticing? It's superficial and I should be engrossed in the plot and not paying attention to her clothes. Plus I really got tired of hearing about her in her leathers (bike clothes). Clothing as a plot advancement or as character development is one of my pet peeves.

For a lot of the book the body guard element felt contrived. He monitors her sleep so that they can fantasize about each other and build that sexual angst, but there are times when they are out in public where she is left alone or he's "thinking" and not paying attention. I also felt that a lot of time was spent on minor plot points but major scenes that could be exciting are passed over and then summarized. The ending had a really great scene going and then poof right when it gets good, it's over and a summary of events is provided. The ending & epilogue was exactly what I anticipated it would be; no surprises there. What was missing was making it more/better than I had already compiled in my head.

At 60% I started to get pulled more into the story and I did really like the plot (and the cover too!). I liked the story, the author's voice and would read more from this author.

By Her Side is about greed, fraud, and family secrets. When Detective Vince Maroney arrived at the office complex to pick up his wife belongs he saves the owner Edward Sutton and his granddaughter Rory Whitfield from an out of control car. Detective Vince Maroney did not want to be involved in another case, due to he was still grieving from the death of his wife, Grace. However, Edward Sutton convinces him that Rory was endangered and needs his help to find his grandson Jamie. The readers of By Her Side will continue to follow the twists and turns in Detective Vince Maroney's investigation to see what happens.

I enjoyed reading By Her Side. The more I read Lizzy Chandler's books, the more I like her writing style and the way she portrays her characters. By Her Side is well written and researched by Lizzy Chandler. The way Lizzy Chandler put the twist and turns into the plot of By Her Side allowed the readers to engage with the story.

The readers of By Her Side will learn about guilt and grief and how it affects people differently. Also, readers will learn about the effects of when law enforcement officers and criminals join forces.

I recommend this book.

What an interesting read. This is not the typical type of love story I read but it was very enjoyable. This was a mystery romance. You see Rory Sutton Whitfield has lived out of Sydney, Australia for several years traveling the world. Trying to prove to prove to her overprotective family (mainly her grandfather (Pa) Edward Sutton) that she was not a princess. Being wealth or should I say coming from a wealthy family had it’s a drawback too. Or at least that was Rory’s take on it.
Traveling for her helped her connect with down to earth, everyday people, and even help those in need. She collected items along the way in hopes of moving home to move back into a home she bought all by herself while going to college and opening a collectable store.
Her grandfather meets her at the airport with the limo which for once she didn’t mind since she was bone tired. She asked about Jamie her have brother. Saying she hadn’t heard from him and usually he would reach out once she would call him. Her grandfather said he was probably on a climb not to worry. She said yeah but even then he was using his Multi-Media to keep up with everyone but nothing. Her grandfather looked sheepish.
He then said he need to stop by work for a quick minute if that was okay. She said okay. Then he said that he was the reason the Jamie was out of the office. That he and Jamie had words after a board meeting. He got mad words were said. When they got to the Sutton Building Rory gets and goes to open her grandfather’s door but he makes a face and she steps back.
She’s looking around when she sees this big, tall, broad-shouldered man with dark hair coming out of the alley. She notices the black t-shirt, faded jeans and biker boots. Most of all she notices his purposeful stride as he hits the pavement. While she was gone. Excitement like a current charged through her body. They are strong, determined, and sexy as hell, and most of all heartbreakers that she didn’t miss.
When she heard the roar of a load engine and screeching tires. She turns to see a white hatchback accelerating down the street, she froze. It was going straight for her. The guy she had been watching yelled to her to watch out. When all of a sudden his arm hooked around her waist and yanked her behind the limo. She fell onto him, knocking him over with her landing on top of him.
She scrambled to the car her Pa was sitting rigid in the back seat. The hatchback had side swiped the limo shearing of the door. He Pa was clutching his chest, eyes closed, grey coloring, sweating forehead and shock. No sign of injury. The bent to listen to his heart then got his phone out called an ambulance. The stranger wasn’t any stranger it turns out he is…
Detective Sergeant Vince Maroney and he realized that he needed to start working on this man or he stood no chance of making on this man or he stood no chance of making it until the ambulance got there. He asked a bystander to help him get him out of the limo. He was able to start CPR when the unit got there to get a heartbeat. Then the pretty blonde girl who was in shock and the old guys granddaughter got in the ambulance with him.
One of his buddy’s was working the scene and said, “You know who that was right? Sutton! Like the Sutton old man Sutton and his granddaughter.” Just his luck the people he needed or wanted to hate. You see his wife soon to be ex worked for them but was killed in a car accident doing an errand for them. In fact he had been on his way to collect her remains from her office.
He needed to know the old guy made it. So he goes to the hospital. He was to yes. It wasn’t enough he needed to see if she was okay, he was lying to himself there was something about her. He goes to the waiting room when he sees her she is excited to see him when the shake hands in greeting, electric shock happens. The nurse comes and says he’s being moved from ICU to regular room she will take her to him. She grabs his arm and drags him along. She knows her Pa will want to thank him. She also knows she can’t face this alone and she feels a connection with him and she needs his quiet strength. So he goes with her.
After a while she is asked to leave them both alone and come back when the detective comes to get her. She’s then told when she comes back she will have 24 hour protection because it looks like the accident was deliberate. She is not happy because once again her family is trying to manage her. She sees what a toll it is taking on her Pa so she agrees. Vince is not happy because he is not a bodyguard and his ties to Gina’s death he believes. So he makes arrangements with a security team.
See how this story unfolds. How these two most unlikely people use their unique ways of thinking to forge ahead to figure out what is happening. Not always with suspense, sometimes with humor, and romance. I give this 5 stars.

A well-written, well-paced thriller/romance with plenty of surprises. I especially like the character of Vince Maroney, who shows that despite heartbreak and unspeakable tragedy, it's still possible to love again. As a Sydneysider, I also appreciate the beautiful descriptions of the city and surrounds.

I read another book by this author and loved it so when I had the chance to pick up this one, I did. I love that the author is an Australian setting her romantic suspenses in Australia. The stories are a nice balance of both romance and suspense with a nice degree of character development tossed in for good measure.

The story opens with Rory Sutton Whitfield returning home from her travels to figure out her future. She grew up with wealth, but this brought it's own problems. Rory wants to make her own way, but before she barely gets home from the airport trouble comes. She and her grandfather are almost victims of a hit and run, her grandfather has a heart attack, her half brother is missing along with some company money, and Rory is confronted by a brooding cop, Vince Maroney, who is ready to nail her brother for the crime. Her grandfather smoozes Vince into being her bodyguard and this is bad because she is attracted to him and he isn't in a place for a relationship.

Vince is not in a good place. He has been slowly losing his soul a piece at a time. His best friend and his only child both died on his watch, he and his wife grew apart over it all and now she has died to in a car accident, and for years Vince has been deep undercover in the drug world. He just wants to be left alone, but saving the lives of Rory and her grandfather now involves him in their troubles especially when he thinks his wife's death was no accident and Rory's brother is Vince's prime suspect. Vince doesn't think he has anything left to give so he does his best to hold Rory at arm's length while working together to get the truth about his wife's death and her brother's disappearance.

The story was engaging from the beginning. The author did well making me second guess along the way and feel the surprise behind the twist in the end. The story is balanced with easy going and tense moments. It focuses on the story and not a lot on the setting, but I loved the local flavoring I did get with a blend of city and rural recreational.

The mystery seemed to morph as the reveals came so that the reader isn't sure if there really is something sinister or if there is just a bunch of coincidences. Did the death of Vince's wife really point to murder or was it a sad tragedy? Was Rory's brother missing for real or was he just away and didn't tell anyone? I liked that feeling. And the big twist at the end was a good one.

Rory and Vince were a nice pair as a detecting team and as a couple though they started out mostly as wary opposites and prejudiced against each other. I liked how there was more to both of them than met the eye.
Vince was rough around the edges and tended to get snarly when Rory poked at his wounds. He might not have grown up with her money and he led a rough life even as a cop because of his undercover work, but he was rich in family.
Rory was touchy about proving that she wasn't just a rich princess and that she was healing from a guy cheating on her and only with her for her money so she was as wary as Vince in her own way. They both brought good things to the table.

All in all, it was an engaging romantic suspense that had some tension and mystery as well as passion. I would definitely recommend it particularly to those who might enjoy some suspense and romance set in Australia.

My thanks to Escape Publishing for the opportunity to read this story in exchange for an honest review.

Sometimes it takes just one book to remind you why you love a genre. By Her Side has renewed my faith in romantic suspense as it balances a developing romance with an intriguing plot. It feels like the romance is a sweet extra, but it’s not forced –it’s a natural progression of the hero and heroine from friends to lovers. All aspects of the plot just worked beautifully together to make a great story.

The novel opens with Rory returning home from a long trip overseas. She’s excited to reunite with her grandfather, who is the head of one of Australia’s most recognised companies. Stopping by the office on the way home, the action begins as Rory is nearly run down and Mr Sutton has a heart attack. Luckily, Vince Maroney happened to be in the area – he’s a policeman recovering from a failed undercover mission but his quick thinking saved Rory and her grandfather. Mr Sutton then asks Vince to watch out for Rory, given that her half-brother is missing too, but Vince is reluctant. His ventures into hero territory haven’t been successful but his protective side wins out – yes, he’ll watch Rory only until other arrangements can be made.

It’s the start of a friendship that also has attraction on both sides, but neither Vince nor Rory is willing to complicate things just yet. Both of them find out that the other has hidden depths and problems to work through. For Vince, it’s the loss of family; for Rory, it’s her missing brother and the need to be able to stand on her own two feet away from Sutton’s. The pair work very well together as a detective team with a hint of sexual tension. What I really enjoyed about this book was that romance never pushed its way in front of the plot; everything is a credible and natural progression. For romance fans, you’ll love the simmering sexual tension and both Rory and Vince pondering whether to make their feelings known. The high drama of the finale only adds to the tension and I honestly couldn’t pick the villain. It was a complete surprise, but once you find out their rationale for doing what they did, you’ll find that it fits in perfectly.

I was very impressed at how taut the plot is – it’s not a huge book, but there’s no padding. Everything is planned well and ties together neatly at the end. If I had a criticism, it would be that Mr Sutton’s hospital progress is a bit vague; however, I’m sure only I would find angiogram and biochemistry results interesting. Perhaps it’s because I connected so closely with these characters that I want to know everything about them! They are excellently crafted – flawed, realistic and interesting. Vince’s previous heartbreaks made his determination to seek justice (and protect Rory) all the more thrilling; while Rory’s determination not to be a princess was sweet.

This is a lovely read for the summer break (or any break really).

Thank you to the author and Escape Publishing for the eARC. My review is honest.

Favorite Quotes:

"She would trust him with her life. But can either of them trust their hearts? Rory Sutton Whitfield isn't a princess, even though her wealthy family insists on treating her like one."

"Whatever he's talked you into, I promise it's not binding." He glanced at her sideways, a flash of humor lighting his eyes. "What makes you think he's talked me into anything?" She half-smiled, relaxing a little. "I know my grandfather. He has that effect on people. Talking them into doing things they don't want to do is his specialty."

"Vince's gut clenched tight, the sight of such affection twinging inside him like an old wound. Made him remember what he was missing out on. Still, it was safer that way. For everybody."

"She as just plain bloody gorgeous."

"Who was he fooling? Rory Whitfield wasn't his woman, but that was exactly what he wanted her to be."

"But what could he say? That he couldn't leave her in the hands of someone like Franchi. Because was jealous. And protective. Because he wanted her for himself."

"Do you have any idea what you do to me?" he said. "If it's the same as I feel about you," she said reaching out to him, "yes."

"Courage isn't just about whether you can walk into a burning building, Vince. Sometimes real courage is about fronting up to life."

Yeah.... Umm... Can you tell I loved this book?!

Rory fresh home from her latest travels is headed with her grandfather back to his office when something terrible happens. Vince Maroney just happened to be at the same place at the same time.

Although Rory comes from a very wealthy family, she is very down to earth and sets her own path. Vince has lost two very important people to him and he believes he's a failure, that he can never love again.

SPOILERS

I absolutely loved this book. I loved the relationship between Rory and Vince. Rory is such a strong character. I love that she is persistent, yet knows bounds. Vince was and always I think has been a real softy, but doesn't show it.

I literally just ate this book up! I couldn't put it down. I loved the fact that it had a little mystery involved. I felt like I was solving the case right along with them! I grew really attached to Rory's character. I could relate with her on her level of patience and being out to do what she wants to do in life, not what is "titled" to her.

I will absolutely be telling my friends to one click this book! I cannot wait to read more from Lizzy Chandler, I may have found my new favorite author!

Chandler’s created really likeable characters in Rory and Vince. She could have gone with caricatures (the poor little rich girl and love interest from the other side of the tracks) but stops short of that and grounds both characters with layers of complexity.

I also loved the fact there’s no game-playing.

Both Rory and Vince feel an attraction to the other and have some misgivings, but the will they / won’t they? doesn’t take over the book. And when the issue is finally broached I love that it’s done in quite a sweet manner. This may border on a #spoiler, but one of them basically presents their feelings to the other which I found to be both honest and brave (and obviously realistic cos I’m commenting on the character’s behaviour as if they were a real person!).

The novel’s short at only about 150 pages which allows it to keep a good pace. The plot itself is interesting and I found myself engaged in what was unfolding.

I’d been warned about the romance / sex scenes before I read this book so I was a tad nervous but quite frankly it’s not gruesome and is handled really well.

This is an enjoyable and easy read, offering up a solid plot and delightful characters.

I received a free review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is a really great book. it is written from the Australian point of view and it really keeps it interesting. It is a mystery about what happened to Rory's 1/2 brother but ends up solving a lot of mysteries. After Rorie's grandfather has a heart attack, Vince, an undercover police officer, is hired to be Rorie's bodyguard. Vince is interested in proving that his wife was killed and Rory is interested in finding her 1/2 brother. So Vince and Rory start working together to solve the mystery with a few hot spots in the middle.

I really enjoyed this writer and seeing the differences between the US and Australia. She did a great job of keeping the story moving with surprises along the way. You never knew what was going to happen. I enjoyed the action, the romance, and the overall story; and I think you will too.

All I can say that for me, this was a typical Romantic Suspense story. You have the hero, in this case Vince Maroney, a Detective trying to mind his own business when he rescued Rory Sutton Whitfield and her grandfather that's is where everything took a turn.

The mystery in the book was really good, but the people involve in it were really unexpected. There is not really much to say on how this was written. It was really good, it is just that Vince was not really able to capture my attention. I love how Roy character was given life, her denial on what was happening was really good, Then again her personality was naturally good.

The ending was kinda a let down though, I would wish it had more essence. In spite of those, I really like the over all story.

By Her Side is the first novel I’ve read by Lizzy Chandler and I look forward to reading more from this talented author in the future.

After Rory is back from years being abroad she is unexpectedly attacked with her grandfather. Luckily Vince was there and helped them both. After situation with her grandfather situation is stable Vince's unexpectedly pushed and becomes Rory's bodyguard. There is something suspicious in Vince's wife death and Rory's step brother is missing. Step by step the connection are drawn and the things are becoming clearer what happened. Also the attraction between Rory and Vince is palpable and at some point accelerate. But there are a lot of things to go through. Will attraction who in short time is quickly becoming deeper feeling for both of them be enough?
Interesting suspenseful love story with likeable characters and HEA.

I really enjoyed this book. The action starts right at the beginning when Vince saves Rory during a hit and run incident. He is then hired by her grandfather to protect her. Neither Vince nor Rory are ecstatic by this move but they decide to make the best of it and they work together to figure things out. The mystery is intriguing and unpredictable. I thought I had it all figured out but the author spun the story in a different direction and kept me glued to the pages right to its explosive ending.
I'd definitely read more by the author.

Good Story and Characters Rory belonged to a family who was rich and she didn't particularly like it. Her grandfather had taken care of her and her brother Jamie since her dad's death as their mother wasn't really there for them.  Vince stops Rory and her grandfather from being run down by a car. This was kind of slow-going but does pick up. Rory went through a lot, trying to prove Jamie wasn't a murderer. Vince went through a lot of ups and downs also in this story. The book had good characters and a good plot. I recommend.**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review

Note: Thanks to the publisher and author for providing me with a copy of the book via NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed are mine and mine alone.

I love romantic suspense, and By His Side kept me guessing to the very end. I love it when a story grips me and doesn't make the villain obvious. The interaction and chemistry between Rory and Vince worked really well, and is pretty hot as well. I liked that, despite the differences in their stations in life, it wasn't made to be what keeps them apart.

The mentions of Marrickville and Bankstown gave me a giggle - my old hood doesn't always get a guernsey!

4 out of 5

A great thriller. Vince Marconey, plays hero when he saves Rory Whitfield, a very wealthy woman, and her grandfather. Their car had been hit by another car which then speeds away. Her grandfather is suspicious of the accident and it's revealed that her half brother has also disappeared. He feels that Rory may be in danger so he hires Vince as her bodyguard. Rory ask him to help her search for her brother, that's when he realizes his life is more entwined with hers than he first thought.

A well written suspenseful thriller. The plot was very intriguing and as the story unfolded the drama's and mysteries make this a hard novel to put down once started, very entertaining.

By her Side is a story of Rory Whitfield who has finally come home to Australia after traveling around the world for years. Many things led to her leaving but her return happens with a smash.

Vince is a detective who has suffered many losses. When he saves not only Rory from a hit and run but her grandfather from a heart attack, he gets roped into protecting Rory while there are no body guards available.

Her brother is missing, his wife has been killed. Will these two figure out and have a beautiful life? Or will those secrets get them killed?

A great read filled with suspense, mystery, and romance. The author created amazing characters in Rory and Vince. Their connection and chemistry felt real and believable. What starts out as an act of heroism with Vince pulling Rory out of harms way quickly turns into him becoming her bodyguard and then much more. Rory's brother is missing, acts of apparent embezzlement, and continued attempts on Rory's life keeps the mystery going throughout the well paced story. This is one I would definitely recommend to all lovers of romantic suspense.

With all kinds of story lines intersecting, this novel is packed full of plot in intrigue. I love the characters and Chandler's writing style. every chapter has me more interested and makes me want to read more. I especially liked Vince, who brings another dimension to the novel. He's caring but keeps to himself. With a more than failed marriage behind him and his wife dead under suspicious circumstances an (almost) war breaks out in him with regards to his emotions and his attraction towards Rory. I really hope there is more to come because this was excellent.

Rory returns home from traveling the world. Vince is trying to come to terms with his wife's death.
When Vince saves Rory, her grandfather hires Vince to be her bodyguard.
Rory and Vince work together to solve the mysteries surrounding them.
I really liked this book. The characters are strong and likeable. The writing was great and it flowed well. It's told in both Rory and Vince's perspectives. It can be read as a standalone.

This was a fun read that plenty of suspense! The plot was entertaining and the solution to the mystery was not obvious- and to be honest, I thought that the resolution was kind of perfect. It made sense, it didn't feel far fetched, and though it wasn't crushing emotionally speaking it still had a rather emotional component. I would most definitely read more from this author.
