Wolves of Willow Bend #6.5

Wolf with Benefits

Rate this book
After graduating college and spending a summer breaking the law, Shiloh Sullivan needs to make amends and accomplish something for Willow Bend. When she returns home, her best friend—the wolfish and playful Matt Montgomery—distracts her. In an effort to make his mother feel better, Matt cons Shiloh into telling his mother that she came home for him. The little fib, he promises, is all his mother needs to feel better about his sister’s recent mating and exodus across the ocean.

Pretending a relationship with a wolf is impossible and, while Shiloh might be human, she knows the rules...

The friendly-with-benefits arrangement suits Matt fine. It makes his mother happy, helps the pack forgive his best friend, and gives him a reason to pry into the secrets Shiloh’s been keeping. Still, the closer they get and the more rules they break, the more Matt’s wolf wants to change their con game into a mating game. Two problems stand in his way—Shiloh’s very human parents never wanted their children to take the bite, and a wolf from across the line has his eye on her, too.

Can Matt keep his best friend and mate her too?

I love books. Not just a little bit, but a lot. Books were my best friends when I was growing up. Books didn’t care if I was new to a town or to a class. They were always there, my trustiest of companions. Until they turned on me and said I had to write them.

I can tell you that my own personal happily ever after included writing books. I’ve always said that an HEA is a work in progress. It’s true in my marriage, my friendships, and in my career. I am constantly nurturing my muse as we dive into new tales, new tropes, new characters and more.

After seventeen years back in Texas, we relocated to the Pacific Northwest in search of seasons, new experiences, and new geography. I can’t wait to discover what life (and my muse) have in store for me.

Maybe writing was always my destiny and romance my fate. After all, my grandmother wasn’t a fan of picture books and used to read me her Harlequin Romance novels.

Friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, friends to enemies to lovers, you name it, I love them and love to write them. I started with Earth Witches Aren’t Easy, the first in the Chance Monroe trilogy, but my characters and I have traveled a long way since I created that urban fantasy world.

One of the series I hear my readers recommend the most is the Untouchable series followed in quick succession by the Vandals, and that just delights me. No lie, whenever one of my readers brings up my wolves, I do a little a fist pump.

I’m active on social media, and I love hearing from readers. Feel free to tag me with a question about any of my books, or just say hi!

Book 6.5 in the Wolves of Willow Bend series, this is a short sweet read. I haven't read any of the other books in this series but while there were references to events in other books I think it still read well as a standalone.

Shiloh has come home after being involved in some bad business with another pack. Most people are not happy to see her back and she is having a hard time settling back in. Her mother comes across as a controlling bitch and for much of the book treated Shiloh like a 12 year old rather than the 24 year old she is.

The only person truly happy to see her back is her best friend Matt and he immediately sets about supporting her and protecting her as he always has. He decides it would be a good plan for Shiloh to move in with him and pretend they are mates until some of the heat dies down. Of course it doesn't take long until the pretense becomes reality.

I wouldn't say there was anything new to be found here but it was a pleasant way to spend a wet. lazy afternoon.

Not much to Shiloh and Matt's story. I was actually looking for more drama then what the two had seeing that we haven't really seen any outside problems in these in a while. Their too short to really have anything going on that makes you remember the characters but I'm still waiting to see what happens in Alaska.

There are quite a few novellas in this series and this is one of my favorites.

Shiloh was one of the humans that helped Luciana move the wolves to form the sixth pack. She was the first one to return when Mason ordered them home. Not because of the order but because she didn't like what she saw with Patrick challenging Serafina the Delta Crescent Alpha.

Now many are not happy with her being home, wolf and human. The most prominent of those humans, her family.

An incident at the grocery store, has Matt has moving her into his home and she has some decisions to make. He is sort of claiming her as his mate, not realizing it may very well be true.

Lots of family drama in this one, Shiloh's family has some issues with her relationship with Matt.

Plenty of laughs, some tension and of course that whole family thing. I love the way Heather tells the story.

A sweet little novella that added nothing to the story line whatsoever incl characters yet cost me 2.99- decidedly meh n average to say the least.

Grr I hate it when authors throw novellas in, as if this series isn't expensive enough.

Nope sorry waste of money n time

Why did I read it then? I was worried I'd miss crucial story development in it. When infact theres nothing.

Sweet book that bridges the gap between packs, and gives more insight into the schism. The H is fun and her best friend. When she comes home, he realises what she means to him. Loved the h in this book, and the revealing details about the new pack, her history and her integrity. Loved it.

Shiloh Sullivan left her pack for college which got her a degree in social work where she helped form a sixth pack…illegal. After some events that happened within this sixth pack has led her to coming back home to her human family and long best friend Matt.

Mason, the alpha of his pack has questioned her immensely and finally forgiven her, but with conditions attached.

Mason may have forgiven her, but the pack is less welcomed including her parents. When her best friend, Matt breaks her out of her house her asks her for the unbelievable. To pretend that their in a romantic relationship to get the packs acceptance and for his own secret agenda. The relationship was suppose to be just a game, but the more they spend time together the more Matt’s wolf and himself want to change the con to turning Shiloh into his life mate.

The only thing that standing in his way is that Shiloh’s parents had never wanted her to take the bite of a wolf, but Matt isn’t the only wolf with his eyes on her.

Will he be able to keep his best friend and mate her too or will he lose her?

Romance is in the air!! I love that Matt conned Shiloh into faking a relationship, but after a while they both started to feel the effects of being with each other once more. These two have been friends for a long time and they tend to bounce right back even after all the years that have gone by. I absolutely love the chemistry between Matt and Shiloh, but also the dynamics of the pack. Heather Long did an amazing job with the pace and story line. I felt like I was getting everything and still craving for more. Now I haven’t read the beginning of the series, but I will be once I get my amazon card. (hehe) She’s top on my list.

I highly recommend if your looking for a quick read involving a friendship relationship blooming into much more.

Shiloh Sullivan has returned to Willow Bend after being called home by the pack alpha. Although she is human she is still part of the pack, but the pack is having a hard time accepting her back in Willow Bend after she broke pack law to help create a new pack for lone wolves. She is living with her parents and suffering their disapproval daily, the only person in town who seems to be happy to see her is her best friend Matt Montgomery.

Matt and Shiloh have been best friends since they were young. It mattered not to them that he was a wolf and she was a human. They accepted one another as they were, even when Shiloh's mother did not approve of that friendship. Now Shiloh is back and Matt cannot stand the fact that everyone is treating her poorly. It hurts him to see her in pain. But he has the perfect plan to help her and to help his mother who has been having a hard time since his sister left. He is going to move Shiloh in with him. If everyone thinks that they are together, it will smooth the way over for Shiloh. Just one problem as they begin their fake engagement, he finds that the kisses he has been giving Shiloh for other peoples benefit are becoming more and more for his benefit.

As the two find that they have feelings for one another besides friendship, can they find a way to smooth over things not only with the pack, but with her mother as well. Great installment into the Willow Bend series.

Wolf with Benefits is book # 6.5 in Heather Long’s Wolves of Willow Bend series. If you haven’t read the previous books in the series you will be fine reading this book as a standalone.
Shiloh Sullivan left Willow Bend right after high school in hopes of finding a new life for her in college. Now back home after, she is the outcast of her small community. While she was away at college Shiloh helped form a sixth pack (a really big no) and her fellow community of shifters is having a hard time forgiving her. What they don’t understand is that Shiloh was just trying to help others fit in the way she never did. Being a human in a town full of shifters, Shiloh always felt like a small part of her would never fit in.
Matt is thrilled that his childhood best friend is back home. Matt has missed Shiloh and never understood while she left so abruptly after high school. When Matt notices how Shiloh’s family and the community are treating her he decides to make everyone think that Shiloh is his mate. By doing this Matt is sure that everyone’s feeling about Shiloh’s betrayal will soon vanish. Neither one of them ever thought that their deception would soon become reality but after one kiss Matt knew Shiloh was his and he was never let her go again.

Fantastic Series - I highly recommend it. (12 Books to this point) = Overall Rating 4.5 Stars

I found the first book to be my least favourite - found heroine annoying and the sex a bit brutal, but Heather Long started building an interesting world with inter-related plots and relationships that became a series I could not put down - it just kept getting better with each book. (See ratings below)

One minor complaint - each book in the series needs a major edit of the Ebooks. There are at least a dozen mistakes in each book (spelling, wrong tense, grammar, missing words, etc.) that should have been corrected by a good edit.

WOLVES OF WILLOW BEND - MY RATINGS:

Book 0.5 Wolf at Law (Prequel) - 3 Stars
Book 1: Wolf Bite - 3 Stars
Book 2: Caged Wolf - 4 Stars
Book 3: Wolf Claim - 4 Stars
Book 3.5: Wolf Next Door - 4 Stars
Book 4: Rogue Wolf - 3 Stars
Book 5: Bayou Wolf - 4 Stars
Book 6: Untamed Wolf - 5 Stars
Book 6.5: Wolf with Benefits - 5 Stars
Book 7: River Wolf - 5 Stars
Book 7.5: Single, Wicked Wolf - 3 Stars
Book 8: Desert Wolf - 5 Stars

Book 9: Snow Wolf is on my 2016 MUST READ list..

Shiloh Sullivan and Matt Montgomery were best friends from childhood until she left to go to college. She had been working with lone wolfs to create a sixth pack when she was called back to Willow Bend. Shiloh's family is human. They have lived among the Willow Bend Pack for generations. Because she is human, it is difficult to be accepted back even at the Alpha's approval. Matt steps in and convinces Shiloh into pretending to be his fiancee to cement her acceptance back into the pack. When they figure out that they are mates the sparks will fly!

I liked this book because of the friends to lovers plot device and how Shiloh and Matt had been friends since childhood even though she is human. In this series, there are humans that live within the pack, protected almost like pets. The slow build up to Shiloh finally realizing she loved Matt was great. This was a well written novel and quite enjoyable to read. It is part of a series.

I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

Shiloh and Matt

This is a great addition to the Willow Bend Series, answering questions I didn't even know I had. Shiloh left the pack for college, then armed with a degree in social work, she helped form an illegal sixth pack. Events within that pack led to her coming home to her human family and her best friend in the pack, Matt. Mason, pack Alpha, has questioned her thoroughly and forgiven her, with conditions. Others in the pack have been less tolerant and her parents are among those. So when Matt breaks her out of her parent's house and proposes a faux romantic relationship for her to regain the pack's acceptance, she is shocked. But after her vehicle is vandalized in the grocery store parking lot, Matt takes things into his own hands, moving her into his garage apartment. And from there, they begin to work through the obstacles to Shiloh regaining full acceptance within the pack that is her extended family. And for each to rethink their role in the other's life.

Heather Long series Wolves of Willow Bend gets better and better. In story Wolf With Benefits , Shiloh Sullivan has come home after a summer long hiatus of breaking her packs rules. Who knew that by helping other wolves she would be ostracize by other members of her pack, even her own family members has given her the coldshoulders. Only one person is happy to see her back and that would be her longtime friend Matt Montgomery.

Matt Montgomery tries to distract her at the same time making his mom smile again by coming up with a plan, they would pretend to date. But you know the old saying the “Best laid plans”. When his feelings for Shiloh turn deeper than friendship, Matt has to find some way to keep his friend and mate her too.

Wolf With Benefits was a hot, sexy read with a heartwarming story.

ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

After messing up big time and earning the ire of her whole pack Shiloh returns home in search of finding herself. What she finds is animosity from other pack members and her own family.

Matt is beyond happy that his best friend is back home. So when Shiloh becomes in danger Matt steps up and moves her in with him. What starts out as playing pretend to placate the pack turns in to Matt realizing that Shiloh might be exactly what he has been missing.

This book was sweet in that girl falls in love with her best friend mixed with a sexy wolf she definitely wants to possess her. It was a fun and easy read. i especially loved when her mother finally accepted that fact that Shiloh was mating with a wolf. I look forward to going back and reading this series from the beginning.

Kindly provided with an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.....

This is Shiloh and Max's book.
Shiloh is one of the "Willow Bend" human's who helped a new wolf pack set up. She made a mistake and ended up leaving to go to college rather than putting up with being snubbed by every-one for her mistake. Shiloh returns home where Max (her once best friend) is delighted to see her. Unfortunately not every-one in the town feels that way. Threats are made and Shiloh is once again snubbed. So this prompts Max to set in to protect her........a role he is very happy to undertake.

One thing leads to another and yup, thank god we know where this story is heading !!
I was a sucker for this friends to lovers tale. Short but very sweet xxx

Well done Heather for a fab paranormal romance read x Many thanks for this opportunity x

Wolf With Benefits is a nice paranormal shifter book. Shiloh has come back to town and is the pariah of the residents and her family. Her best friend Matt wants to help her so he moves her in with him, both to make his mother happy that he has a potential mate and to protect her from her family and the rest of the town.
It's a sweet story of friends who find romance together. There is an abortive attempt to bring in a third party, but it kind of fizzles in the story, only amounting to a few texts that both Shiloh and Matt ignore.
This is a quick read and it does make me want to read more by this author. I was given this for an honest review by Netgalley as an ARC.

Interesting addition to the series

I had a hard time reading this story, at first. Shiloh, in my opinion, made some extremely foolish, naive decisions. She saw the world as a human and didn’t have a grasp the wolves way of life that would have allowed her to make more informed choices. That said, seeing her try to reintegrate into Willow Bend was hard. Matt’s involvement seemed to completely change her life around, and gave her something else to focus on. Though she still felt she was right, I think she might have finally understood the impact of her actions.
All in all, I loved this story and am glad to have seen Shilohs point of view.

Though this can be read standalone I recommend this whole series as it ROCKS! Shiloh was one of the Willow Bend humans responsible for helping set up the new pack. Now she is home and on probation. She is being harassed and ostracized by wolf and human alike. Except for her best friend Matt who comes up with a plan to help her out and if it ends up helping him out too so much the better. What they didn’t expect was falling in love. SO MUCH FUN!

Engaging and full of heart

I loved the emotional realness of this story. People screw up and society judges you. That's real. The characters in this story are strong and full. I really disliked Shiloh's mom a lot. I stayed up late reading this and couldn't put it down. I loved the way Matt stepped up for his best friend and the way the community was portrayed in such a realistic fashion. I completely enjoyed this story and can easily recommend it as a great book to lose sleep over.

As a persnickety lover of IR Paranormal Romance, I liked this book. It was a fun, quick read that gave the reader a little bit of family drama, and familiar love between two childhood friends in need of one another. Although it wasn’t “pitch perfect,” I was able to connect with Shiloh, and found this to be part of a worthwhile series with potential.

Giving this one: 3 Solid Stars.

This author was recommended to me when I was begging for shifter recs. One of the things I like most about it is they're not too complicated or dramatic. They're short sexy stories, and, for my current craving, they ONLY have wolves. No dragons or vikings or gods, etc. It's humans and wolves. And that's it.

After being apart from her pack and helping to start the new Three Rivers Pack, Shiloh is back in Willow Bend and ostracized by many. Her best friend, Matt decides to help her with gaining acceptance by "pretending" to be her boyfriend. But as we can predict, the pretense turns real. This as a wonderful addition to this series and set up for the stories to follow.
