Framed Perspective

Framed Perspective Vol. 1: Technical Perspective and Visual Storytelling

Rate this book
Perspective is a discipline often set aside when it comes to general art study, though it is essential to master in order to produce any piece of art that is and feels realistic. Framed Perspective 1 equips artists with the technical knowledge needed to produce successful visual storytelling-related drawings: from understanding the basics of the space around us and how we perceive it, all the way to more sophisticated endeavors, like creating entire locations that will become the believable set ups our characters and stories will happen within. As intimidating as perspective may seem, best-selling author and artist Marcos Mateu-Mestre delivers each lesson in an accessible and informative way that takes the mystery out of achieving successful scenes. The book includes extensive step-by-step practical explanations of how to build objects and environments of all sorts, taking that first sketch to a fully rendered artwork with many of his finished illustrations as examples. Sure to be the most popular book in your art library, it will train you to see the world in a way that allows you to enjoy every curve and slope you see in it and, more importantly, translate that vision into art with accuracy and a great sense and understanding of depth and proportion. Your perspective will never be the same!

Thorough information on perspective but it could be too technical for some people and some examples are not very well explained. All in all good reference book for intermediate or advanced artists needing very accurate perspective.

For beginners I would recommend:

I was going with Scott Robertson book "how to draw" to learn perspective but after a while i was bored with it, so i was starting to take a look on this one without much hope in it, just trying to see what is inside.
This Book catch me up as soon as i opened it, it is very simple, not wasted words are writing, drawings talk by themselves most of the time and you have you "HAHA" moment.
I believe in simple makes good in art because we don't need to draw exactly what we see, after experience we can really play with the rules.
This book gives a lot of usefull informations on how to communicate our message in a drawing, it is mostly do by playing with the point of view.
I really enjoyed it and i have found the informations to take a grasp on the perspectiv skill.

If you want to understand the depths and power of linear perspective this book should be an essential volume living on the bookshelves of your studio. Marcos Mateu-Mestre has written an incredibly comprehensive and focused book on the power of using linear perspective within your compositions. Don't skip this book, grab it, and keep close as you evolve and grow as an artist.

I had trouble following the information in this format. There was some useful information relating perspective to composition, but only a few pages' worth.

A very interesting illustration of the basic concepts. Once you're past beginner probably there isn't much here for you, but still, Mateu has put into pictures what others put in text.

The book's biggest upside may also be its greatest downside.

Extremely thorough and descriptive. Great examples and step by step breakdowns of every concept. If you ever wanted to know how something was done in terms of perspective this is your guide, you won't be let down.

But in this overtly descriptive text you may find yourself overwhelmed with exposition and whimsically woven wireframes. The steps and how to get there may look like a mind melting ancient puzzle..

But if you have the patience and put the knowledge to use you will be graduating with a degree in perspective by the end. Good luck.

The first pages of this book was amazing for beginners, and the rest was amazing for advanced people. I missed something intermediate in the middle though.

Recommended to anyone looking for in-depth perspective teaching. It provides a lot of information not available in a plethora of other books.

High class reference material with lots to learn, even if you've read multiple perspective books already.
