Every novel in this collection is your passport to a romantic tour of the United States through time-honored favorites by America's First Lady of romance fiction. Each of the fifty novels is set in a different state, researched by Janet and her husband, Bill. For the Daileys it was an odyssey of discovery. For you, it's the journey of a lifetime.
Janet Anne Haradon Dailey was an American author of numerous romance novels as Janet Dailey (her married name). Her novels have been translated into nineteen languages and have sold over 300 million copies worldwide.
Born in 1944 in Storm Lake, Iowa, she attended secretarial school in Omaha, Nebraska before meeting her husband, Bill. Bill and Janet worked together in construction and land development until they "retired" to travel throughout the United States, inspiring Janet to write the Americana series of romances, where she set a novel in every state of the Union. In 1974, Janet Dailey was the first American author to write for Harlequin. Her first novel was NO QUARTER ASKED.
She had since gone on to write approximately 90 novels, 21 of which have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List. She won many awards and accolades for her work, appearing widely on Radio and Television. Today, there are over three hundred million Janet Dailey books in print in 19 different languages, making her one of the most popular novelists in the world.
Janet Dailey passed away peacefully in her home in Branson on Saturday, December 14, 2013. She was 69.
Heroine was such a wet dishrag, dying of unrequited love for her boss for 3 years, quivering, tearing up, shaking, blushing every time he even looked at her, but thankfully she had a feisty best friend on her side who stood up for her and propped her up when her jelly spine dissolved. Ultimately, both the best friend and yours truly the distinguished reader of this tale finally got fed up with what a limp lettuce leaf she remained to the bitter end! The hero was an idiot who wondered throughout the book why the heroine was not responding to his advances while he kept dating the OW up to the last second. IDIOT!
The book has a h infatuated with her boss for almost three years. She finally starts dating to get over him, until a blizzard traps them in the office. But before we get too excited, absolutely nothing happens apart from some cuddling, and they go back to dating OM/OW. Furthermore, at a random moment the H starts pursuing the h, while she rejects him as he keeps insisting that it was she who encouraged him.
Unlikable MCs, boring h, ignorant H. There was zero chemistry between them and the confession at the end was unbelievable.
From the minute she was hired at Lyons Construction, Joan Somers has managed to keep a professional distance from her gorgeous boss, Brandt Lyons, and conceal the fact that she has been in love with him from the first. But when a sudden blizzard results in the two being stranded in the office over the weekend, the barriers between them crumble and it becomes impossible for them to return to the way things were before. Will they move forward together or apart?
A typical 1970s category romance with a domineering boss and a flustered secretary afraid to admit her feelings for him.
Despite one or two scenes that have the potential for steam, the book is rather sedate and this is to its detriment. A little action would have gone a long way toward making this a better read as Brandt's alpha attitude and Joan hot/cold angst cannot carry it alone.
There are definitely better office romance books out there such as Billie Green’s Time After Time.

Would he ask her to stay? Her resignation was typed and ready. But Joan was strangely reluctant to submit it to Brandt. Her resolve that she was doing the right thing had not wavered, but Brandt’s unexplained actions raised hopes she could not entirely shrug aside. Then everything changed with Brandt’s words. “Miss Somers,” he said curtly, “I’m prepared to accept your resignation. And please make it clear to the agency that this time I want someone older and married. Someone I can rely on not to be carried away by ridiculous flights of fanciful imagination.”
Dialogue was fun. Descriptions, however, were oversaturated with adjectives and mind-numbingly cheesy at times. Ending felt rushed to get them to end up together, and it was annoying that they kept getting walked in on when just trying to have a fruitful conversation for once. Finished it in roughly 3 hours and, oddly, second half first before first half. (Wasn't meant to read it in the first place lol it was in my to-get-rid-of pile whoops sorry.) Achingly apparent that it's an old book (published in the 70's, in fact), but I did get out two or three phrases I can use in my own works, so that's cool. I want to say that it's quite horrible, really, but the thing is... I enjoyed it. Even with all its flaws and an appalling typo of the main character's name, I finished it without wanting to kill myself lol. It could've been better, but it was fun enough that it wasn't downright atrocious.
I grew up reading harlequins and mills and boons and this is as typical old school harlequin as I remember with all it's glorious era appropriate writing. A quick , snappy , fun little boss secretary old school genre romance. Thoroughly enjoyable and Joan was even slightly less annoying the the usual ingenue types from way back. (she is still era appropriate annoying, so no worries there). All in all, good way to change up the reading pace .
This was just okay. The back and forth between Brandt and Joan was kind of tiresome. I was hopeful when they became trapped in the office due to a blizzard but unfortunately, they kept having miscommunication problems and rather than talk it out they just kept throwing unhelpful words at each other.
It was obvious this was written 30 or 40 years ago but, it conveyed strong emotion. I love office romances, and this fit the bill, even if it was dated. This was an enjoyable case of unrequited love, and Im a sucker for those.

Another quick read, romance novel. Secretary and good looking boss get stranded in their office building during a Chicago blizzard due to road closures. Power goes out ... building gets cold ... gotta stay warm ...
