Pompeii has a great introduction, and excellent illustrations showing what the architecture would have looked like as well as photographs showing the ruins. The history is fascinating, but after a while the various buildings tend to become a bit same-same. I enjoyed the book, but began to gloss over a lot of the sections about halfway through.
