Born in Visalia, California, I'm a small town girl at heart. I love central California's golden foothills, oak trees, and the miles of farmland. In my mind, there's nothing sweeter in the world than the heady fragrance of orange blossoms on a sultry summer night.
As a little girl I spent hours on my bed, staring out the window, dreaming of far off places, fearless knights, and happy-ever-after endings. In my imagination I was never the geeky bookworm with the thick coke-bottle glasses, but a princess, a magical fairy, a Joan-of-Arc crusader.
My parents fed my imagination by taking our family to Europe for a year when I was thirteen. The year away changed me (I wasn't a geek for once!) and overseas I discovered a huge and wonderful world with different cultures and customs. I loved everything about Europe, but felt especially passionate about Italy and those gorgeous Italian men (no wonder my first very Presents hero was Italian).
I confess, after that incredible year in Europe, the travel bug bit, and bit hard. I spent much of my high school and college years abroad, studying in South Africa, Japan and Ireland. South Africa remains a country of my heart, the people, the land and politics complex and heart-wrenching.
After my years of traveling and studying I had to settle down and earn a living. With my Bachelors degree from UCLA in American Studies, a program that combines American literature and American history, I've worked in sales and marketing, as well as a director of a non-profit foundation. Later I earned my Masters in Writing from the University of San Francisco and taught jr. high and high school English.
I now live in Seattle and Hawaii with my three sons. I never mind a rainy day, either, because that's when I sit at my desk and write stories about far-away places, fascinating people, and most importantly of all, love. I like a story with a happy ending. We all do.
I'm not a fan of action and adventure and this body guard/princess story has lots of action as well as court intrigue. But this is a heartfelt story and it fit in nicely with the series of princess sisters.
Heroine is the widow of an abusive prince. Her four year-old daughter is the heir to the throne of her father's country. The heroine signed the worst pre-nup of all time. She is not allowed to re-marry or get pregnant. Her daughter can't leave the country unless she has her evil grandparents permission.
Heroine is on her way back to her daughter when her plane goes down. Hero is a new body guard (he owns his own security company) hired by her brother-in-law, the hero from The Sultan's Bought Bride. Hero and heroine hold hands and think/talk about life in the longest plunge in HP history. (I'm making that up - but it felt like it. )
The plane is on fire when it lands, but hero carries the heroine away. They spend the night on the beach away from the other passengers since the hero thinks the crash was part of an assassination attempt. To pass the time they have a one night stand - unprotected.
Hero takes heroine to his own island where she will be safe. His backstory about the death of his wife and unborn child is revealed. He was part of the Greek mafia, but is out now. The heroine falls pregnant and that's where things get even more complicated.
Like I said - lots of action and intrigue, but the author does manage to fit in a romance. I'm not sure I agreed with the heroine's decision making - but it was a sacrifice she didn't have to make thanks to some author slight of hand so the HEA could actually happen. I'll be interested to read the last story in the series.
Definitely a different HP. Still so good! This was a somber book. There was an underlying sadness to the story. So imagine my happiness seeing the epilogue. Hero’s past was so tragic that I really felt for him. When at last heroine stood up to her in-laws it was hooray moment for me. If only we had more scenes with hero and her daughter bonding . This is a safe read, for those who are wondering. Recommended.
This is a must read. The emotions in this story are strong, and pulls at ones heart. This book had action, lots of suspense, and romance. It was also a story that drew me in. I couldn't put it down. I stayed up late in the night, until I read the last page. Before Chantal became Princess Chantal Thibaudet she was forced to sign a prenuptial agreement, along with other contracts. One contract she signed stated, if her husband ever died, Chantal was not allowed to marry, or date. she was to remain the faithful widow. If she and the prince ever had kids, that child would always remain in the country of La Croix. The child would be groomed to take the throne one day. As a newlywed you never think about death. It wasn't long before Chantal realized her husband Armand was mean. She wanted to leave, but found out she was carrying his baby. She was to be seen, but not heard. Latter on her husband died. Princess Chantal was content with carrying out her royal duties. She did it all for her little girl Lilly. Most of all she loved being a mom.
Everything changed inside her when she was in a plane crash. When the plane started breaking apart, something inside herself also broke loose. She had a voice, and was tired of following orders. She wanted more from life. Her in-laws ruled her with a iron fist, always threatening to take away her daughter.
During the flight body guard Demetrius was there to offer conversation, and comfort. He treated her like a person. She enjoyed connecting, and talking to him. He was there for her when the plane crashed. He thought the plane crash was a planned attempt on Chantal's life. Afterwards he took her to his private Greek island. Not only did the two connect in conversation, but they connected in other ways such as a steamy roll on the beach, minutes after the plane crashed. sex was a great way to release the stress, and tension of what the two had just gone through, and faced. It was a away to prove they were still alive, and that they made it. Later on in the book Chantal found out she was pregnant. My heart ached for her. From the contract she signed before being Princess , she now had to chose between Lilly her 4 year old daughter, or the baby she was carrying. How can a mother choose? Is she chose to carry the baby, she would lose Lilly forever. Her in-laws would raise her as their own. Demetrius had been married once. His wife died before she could give birth to his daughter. He lost his wife, and daughter, and never dreamed he could get the chance to be a father again.
This was a moving story, that touched my heart. My heart ached for both Demetrius, and Chantal. The two did get a Happy ever after, but you got to read to see what they went through to get there. Demetrius was all Alpha male. Anyone would want him to be their very own body guard. Chantal lived to be silenced for years, following rules, and doing everything expectant of her. I was glad to see that she found her voice, and demanded to be heard. Great book!
Oh my goodness but this a melodramatic fairy story that stretches credibility to the absolute limits!
However it is very well written and the hero is fabulous - this author always seems to create wonderful heroes and not so wonderful heroines. A complex, complicated story filled with coincidences and multiple tropes but actually rather enjoyable.
This heroine eventually finds her strengths - thanks to the hero - and a happy ending ensues.
Utterly over the top, and requiring the total suspension of disbelief, but nonetheless entertaining.
But I wanted a much better comeuppance for the appalling parents-in-law. They deserved nothing.
This is a very sad, emotional and heartbreaking story about a widow princess heroine who finds love again with her bodyguard but she has to choose between her 4 year old daughter and the new baby she is carrying. Jane Porter is a great author her books are really emotionally complex and well written. I recommend!

رواية جميلة، قرأتها تحت ترجمة منتدى روايتي باسم «أميرتي العنيدة»
Meh, this book was okay. It had some interesting bits but was mostly very predictable. The woman was a bit too self-sacrificing for my tastes. It started out with the same-old boring bodyguard-protecting-girl-from-stalker story, but had an interesting twist when his family was involved with the Greek mafia (seriously, not a spoiler - you see it coming from a mile away when you start the book.) The drama with the grandparents was enough to give it a 3 - the romance itself was a 2.
Another wonderful book by Jane Porter, The Greek's Royal Mistress. I was glad to find a copy of this older book in my library catalog I was able to request it from another branch. I've always loved the author's past books I've read and this one didn't disappoint me. From the start it pulled me right into the storyline and I didn't want to put the book down. A Princess, a bodyguard, a plane crash and so much more.
I'm in a point of story in which I wonder what makes a “true/real woman” to one... For the author: Have sex with a stranger? 😒 Do it after a plane accident? 😒😒 Don't wear a condom? 😒😒😒 Get pregnant by accident? 😒😒😒😒
I'll keep my tongue about Demetrius cause I don't want to be banned!!!! 🤮
1.5 stars — Well, I’m in an inordinately bad mood now. I had to skim most of this book. GOD. I couldn’t take the repetitiveness. NOTHING HAPPENED. Like, Chantal had the same thoughts OVER AND OVER AND OVER and it was so boring!! I don’t even know if the growth was believable, b/c I just couldn’t take it anymore. I just wanted to know how they were going to make it work in the end. And the resolution was meh — not bad, not great.
Seriously though, for Chantal to have gone through an abusive first marriage, and then have her new beau be cold, unemotional, harsh…like, serious bummer. Honestly, I was uncomfortable with how much of an asshole Demetrius was. He had moments where he basically derided her for not getting out of her abusive marriage, and for not getting on with her life. Chantal needed help, no doubt, but come on! He also cornered her, manhandled her, pressured her…all the things that I don’t find appealing in a guy, but a new hero for an abuse victim? Cold Ms. Porter, cold.
And was she afraid of him? It was hard to tell…it almost seemed like she could be, but really she was just afraid of all her lustful feelings. Ugh. It was all she thought about!
I don’t know. I’m feeling ranty. I just can’t take these Presents books anymore. God, this book treaded right to the line on a few other issues — like trying to be woke, but missing the mark in general. I can’t explain. I can’t even tell if it really was, but it just made me feel wrong.
Whatever. I wanted to read the whole bundle, but this mess of a book has me not even caring about Joelle. Maybe I’ll give it a try, but my DNF finger will be on a hair trigger, that’s for sure.
A princess has to live by certain rules, always smile, always be polite, always dress the part and never do anything scandalous. Even when Princess Chantal's plane is going down, she keeps a level head. Her bodyguard, Demetrius, is sitting beside her and helps her through the ordeal by talking and distracting her. He has been secretly hired to protect her from threats made against her. She has no idea who he is until he takes her to his private island where she will be safe. All she wants is to be with her daughter, Lilly, who is being groomed to take over the island of La Croix as queen when she is older. Can Demetruis protect Chantal and reunite her with Lilly? Can he help her get past her late husband's abuse and make her see there are more good men in the world who will treat her with respect? Can he find the suspect who is sending the threats before someone gets hurts? I enjoyed the chemistry between the two main characters and the story was a fun read and escape from my everyday life.
