This book is a cornucopia of history and facts in which we learn a great deal about the Mayflower, its consort ship, Speedwell, the schedule of the group of Puritans to leave Holland and pick up those in England, a little bit of life (births and deaths) aboard the voyage, the problems with a leaky Speedwell, the supplies and provisions taken along, the first arrival in Cape Cod harbor, the second landing at Plymouth Harbor, the months aboard ship in the harbor, and the hard, first winter. This sure beats any fictionalized accounts.
It was kind of hard to get through. Sounded more like a debate than anything. But it has a lot of historical facts in it if they are accurate. I read this book because I am linked to several of the pilgrim families through my father's side and been interested in learning all I can about their lives and what they went through.
This was a tough read for me. There were certain theories that did not have any hard core evidence, nor lined up with what most Mayflower books & facts state.
