This is a collection of short, and some not so short, stories that involve the undead as well as a wide variety of very unpleasant things. Some of the unpleasant things include mentally deranged psychotic clowns, someone being pushed from a very tall building, a giant six foot tall fluffy pink talking bunny that a man discovers in his kitchen at 2:47 in the morning, an elderly deranged man who believes he's a ninja, a vacation near Albuquerque that ends very tragically, and many other things. Southwestern Road Trip picks up immediately after the events portrayed in Valley of Death- Zombie Trailer Park. It features appearances by Deputy Bo Autry, Sheriff Guiteriz and finally explains what became of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer Keith Dudley. This story marks a major change for me, in that the reader get to decide how it ends; Horribly or Very horribly. The Fall of Bayonne is actually more of a novella than a short story and chronicles the events that led to an undead outbreak that occurred during a prison revolt. My personal favorite scene is when the execution of a very bad man goes about as wrong as possible and it turns out being dead doesn't mean much. Waking at 2:47AM does not involve zombies, but is filled with many unpleasant things. A father discovers nightmares are more than they seem, and sometimes they do come true. Chef's Surprise may seem like just another murder case, but when it ends with undead and psychotic clowns it's anything but ordinary. Disgusting Campfire Tales was written principally for those critics and reviewers that have complained my stories are too gross and disgusting. (which they are) Fortunate Cookie takes a peek at an unloved girl who discovers the end doesn't mean that everything is over.
I rarely give books all 5 stars & am especially critical of stores in my favorite genre, zombies. I thought this was well written & exciting. It was interesting to read about these people coming out of a safe haven instead of spending the time looking for one or there just not being any. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, I so did not want this one to end & am very happy the Val & her newly found brothers' & friends' stories continue!
The author proclaims at the beginning that his grammar and spelling are horrible. I'm writing this review simply because of that proclamation.
The spelling and grammar are not FANTASTIC, but it's most certainly not the worst I've seen, even this year alone. Are there grammatical errors? Yes. But he's honest about that. I'd say a disclaimer on the Amazon sales page would take care of people who can't handle it. I can be nitpicky about grammar and spelling, but honestly these weren't that darned bad compared to other drivel I've tried to suffer through recently. There's no character confusion, which is my biggest pet peeve. The main thing I'd suggest is inserting a break of some kind when switching between different character viewpoints in the prison story. It's a bit disconcerting when you're reading about one set of people, then you're suddenly thrust into another set. I had to backtrack to clarify a couple of times until I became used to the author's ways. A simple dotted line to denote a new "chapter" would take care of that. Also as far as the grammar issue, there are people who would be willing to proofread for free or in exchange for free copies of the finished product, just an idea. I've done that for authors in the past, where I've proofread with a deal that I got their digital books for free when they're finished. (Accomplished with a "gift" through Amazon.)
The stories are gross and disgusting...and tons of fun. Definitely worth the read if you can handle cussing, gore, people doing horrible things, and bathroom humor. It's like reading an unpolished Joe Lansdale. Worth the time spent reading.
Mr. Bebb knows how to spin a good story. In this book he gives us several. If you like his work this is a real treat. If you haven't gotten a chance to read his work this is a great introduction. You will want more. I know I do.
Pretty good book, will be picking up more by the same author.
This was a pretty good book. Not every story is about zombies, there was a ghost ,bigfoot, regular murder that tired into the other one, and some more. All of the stories were good in my opinion. For the price (free when I downloaded it) you can't beat it.
I have yet to be disappointed with any of this author's stories. The wit transfers from the Keck books to these short stories without a hitch and his characters are as relatable as our own emotions and reactions. I look forward to future adventures.
