Serena and Matt are step siblings with an 11 year age difference. When Matt first wife died, he left home and his family did not hear or saw him for 3 years. Serena decided to go out in search of him and when she found him, he was in dire condition. Drunk, broken leg, sick and filthy. She decided to nurse him back to health, and in doing so, her feelings, the feelings of love that she had for him since she was 8 years old came roaring back with a vengeance. Not about to lose him again to another woman, she decided to profess her feelings but she is not prepared for the backlash she will face when her family finds out she is in love with her stepbrother. The taboo.

This is a cross breed indian / white story. Serena is half breed. Matt is white raised the Indian way. Most of the story revolves around the family's dislike of Matt and Serena's relationship since they are half siblings. Also Matt made some enemies on his time away from the family so that is catching up to him. The author really dragged out this story but this was published since 1993 so I guess at that time, this was the norm, compared to now, 2022 - 29 years later. There is not much Indian way of life in this story. Most of it is on the trail, with a mixture of both Indian and white thrown in.

Fabulous!!

This story was very well told! Daring and bold! It provided a look into what a real family is like with its secrets! I loved every minute of this story about Matt and Rena!

I guess the idea of having relations with your step brother kinda creeps me out. I know that they aren’t blood but still….

Book 3 is sort of a continuation of book 2 but I guess can be a standalone. Full of action, romance etc, he is now a widower and amongst other things a drunk. She is his Halfbreed stepsister and has always loved him but left it unsaid when he married the love of his life. He has been gone for a few years now having left his daughter and family. She decides to rescue him but at what cost. Their lives are in danger and the rift between family grows wider. She needs strength and determination to set things right and bring back happiness to the whole family.

One of my favorite “junk” books. I have read and re-read this book so many times I have lost count. It is full of romance, suspense and of course toe curling scenes. It is a wonderful read when you want to escape from reality.

DNF at page 136. Boring story (basically the hero/heroine are keeping house while he recovers from alcoholism and a broken leg) plus the incest overtones (H/H are step-siblings) were enough to make me realize I was wasting my time on this one.
