In 2005, Jorge Enrique made the baffling decision to leave Peru’s exhilarating food and tropical weather to attend the Savannah College of Arts & Design in pursuit of an education in Film & Television. Eventually he settled his awkward-self in Los Angeles, CA, home of In-N-Out burgers and bipolar weather. Raised in an environment brimming with art, he knew since an early age that he had an unstoppable itch to mix and juxtapose stories and characters into thought-provoking tales and nonsensical drivel.

F*KTORY is an exhilarating little gem that is smart, twisted, alluring and as dismal as hell. I loved it and all it's quirky dark turns. Energetic, yes I felt old but this is because I am old but I kept reading and found myself remembering what it was like to be fourteen.
There were witty lines that I had to take note while this gripping roller coaster had me feeling a bit drug induced along with the characters.
"Always be in control of a situation, no matter how small you are, no matter how big the other guy is. Always aim for control. That's how you survive. It was, after all, survival of the fittest."
F*KTORY is a fast-paced adventure with a young drug dealer just doing what she has to do to survive. Not your average Brady Bunch kind of tale but that is what makes it so uniquely captivating. An ambitious narrative that is a real head-spinner that takes us to the darkest places and back.
"Those kids wanted pills, and we didn't have any. You don't sell bacon to a vegetarian. End of story."
Fktory focuses on the struggles that E, an extremely witty and gutsy, 14 year old drug dealer faces. The 'not always so good' decisions she makes and then the consequences that follow. All of that comes with a whole heap of mind blowing superpowers thrown in too!
I haven't enjoyed being introduced to a character more than I have whilst getting to know E. From page one, E had me in fits of laughter because her use of language is so immensely humorous and sharp. E is such a kickass female protagonist and she made for an enjoyable and engaging read alongside the rest of the interesting cast of characters.
Jorge has yet again impressed me with his writing, creativeness and ability to make his characters so incredibly relatable. I'm so invested in this story now and I need to find out what happens next in Fktory Vol 2!
An interesting story, but it goes nowhere (slowly)
I do like the premise, that there is a new drug that gives the user temporary superpowers. For some strange reason to the whole book nobody thinks to use it to rob the US Mint or thwart some terrorists or something major like that. Instead they just use it to have fun levitating salt shakers at high class raves for the glitteratti. And at the end, pretty close to none of the several twisted plotlines actually gets resolved. A couple people end up dead, I guess you could say their story resolves, but even that's a stretch (can't say why because spoilers). And at the very end the main character's infant brother gets kidnapped too so... Cliffhanger. Normally I'd subtract a point from the rating for the cliffhanger but this time it's kinda borderline already so I'll allow it to round back up.
On the whole... Good premise: might be worth something if you can just make up your own storylines in your mind and ignore the author's. Good complexity: almost too much. I lost track a couple times of who all the characters were, but overall it's good because there's a lot going on so it's never boring. Poor plotting: it often reads more like just a list of things that happened in order and there's little sense of purpose to it all.
Generally, it's an okay book. I don't regret reading it but I wouldn't recommend it to others
I don't think you understand how often this book had me worried for Phil and E
I can usually predict books pretty well but this had me on the endge of my seat. I absolutely loved this book and will definitely pick up Volume 2 when I can.
The character growth in this book was pretty great in my opinion just like the writing.
A good book in all, definitely not like any other book I have read.
This was pretty intense. Finished it in a day. I was afraid it'd be like those other dystopian novels where the world is ending but all the characters talk like they're in preschool. Glad it wasn't. Read Vol. 2 the following day. Would recommend this to anyone.

Evelyn, or “E” as she is known on the street is an all but homeless fourteen year old drug dealer in New York City. Street-wise for fourteen, she is an expert in all type of controlled substances from pills to pot. Her abusive, drunken father has ensured that she is the best drug dealer on the street, dealing even to her addict school principal. She has two bright spots in her life; her friend Riky and her one-year old brother, Phil whom she has cared for as a parent since his birth to a meth addicted mother. When her father, Frank, in a drunken rage attempts to kill Phil prompting E to defend him in a manner that severely injures Frank (E believes she killed Frank), she and Phil flee from the abandoned hotel where they live and become homeless. What follows is an intricate web of events that begins with the theft of a new designer drug that endows users temporarily with superpowers. The theft begins a long chain of deception, guilt and recrimination for E in which she learns that her associates all have their own agendas and are deceiving her in one way or another. At stake are the lives of E, Phil, and Riky and the potential market for the most popular designer drug to hit the market; one that could flip the world as we know it upside down. The author writes with a spare direct style and displays a great gift for colorful descriptions that could very believably come from the mouth of a fourteen year-old girl. The story is narrated by E in the first person. Each character has their own set of problems and circumstances to overcome. For example, E must overcome Frank, Frank’s legacy of abuse, her sense of responsibility for Phil and her insecurity. Ricky must overcome the complete neglect of his parents, his inability to capitalize on his dancing ability, and his need to be a part of something that is successful. Each of the other major characters’ backgrounds are equally problematic in one way or another. I’m not a real fan of urban fantasy, but I found F*ktory to be entertaining and captivating. Mr. Ponce is a gifted story-teller who weaves an intriguing tale that should appeal to readers of urban fantasy as well as those who love any good tale of intrigue, deception and adventure.
Drugs are common. Luxury drugs are still common, but come with a higher price because of the market making them seem less common. But drugs that give you superpowers? Priceless...or at least a couple thousand dollars for a quick hit. F*ktory by Jorge Enrique Ponce delves into the drug world of New York City on the coattails of a young girl.
As a fourteen year old, E has already dealt with much of the adult world as she's been thrust out of her childhood in order to deal with her abusive father and protect her baby brother Phil from suffering as she has. Selling drugs and knowing how best to manipulate her buyer are things that E is quite good at. When a new drug called Lumen, which gives the users superpowers, enters the scene, E has hit the jackpot on her ticket out of this life, but this apparent blessing has more stings attached to it than she realizes.
The story is intriguing, yet reminiscent of the various comic book universes where a chemical is released and then people develop their superpowers, which makes the narrative easy to accept and roll with, especially with all the witty lines, but also has me saying, "Come on." While it's clear that E has been thrown into the seedy adult world in order to survive, much of her behavior and thought processes didn't sit right with me as what a child, even an "adult" child, would do, even though I don't have first hand experience with this.
F*KTORY Vol.1 is hands down one of the best books I have read in a while. What Jorge Enrique Ponce does to your mind while you are reading this book it that it allows your mind to be run freely through the pages and explore the world of the 14 year old hereon. When you begin to read the book you are sucked into the world and walk the same footsteps as "EVE" and you start to wonder if this is your life written out in front of you. I was able to imagine her struggles and at times think how cans she make it? Once you fall in love with Eve you get the sense that she could possibly be The bride A.K.A Beatrix Kiddo from Kill Bill because her struggle for answers and revenge are the same. I was not able to put the down for one second and finished it in one and a half days. Yes this book is amazing that I devoted my time to engulf my imagination into it. I highly recommend everyone to read this book and see what awaits you in the Earth shattering last pages that includes a HUGE cliffhanger that will lead to Vol. 2.
I loved this book. I loved it so much I read it in one day, I couldn't put it down! The main character is a 14 year old drug dealer and I didn't think I would relate to her, having not been 14 in 2 decades and never having sold a drug a day in my life, but her journey is one we can all relate to. The story is so well written I feel like I'm at these fantastic parties, with these super powers, and living in the loft with E and her friends. I kept turning the page because I couldn't go to sleep until I found out what happened with this banded group of misfits. This is a tale of friendship, survival and life, as told from a point of view most of us were lucky enough never to endure, but somehow we can relate to. Can I give it 6 stars?

The first installment of F*ktory presents the story of "E", a young 14-year old girl who's life turns around when his only parent fails her beyond repair, leaving her no choice but to take her baby brother and escape in hopes of surviving in the city of New York. She resorts to what she knows best in order to survive: selling drugs. E finds herself in the middle of the uprising of a new powerful drug, leading her into a vortex of chaos full of ups and downs. Throughout her exciting and thrilling journey, E took me through a rollercoaster of emotions and personal discoveries. I CONSTANTLY FOUND MYSELF FLIPPING THROUGH THE PAGES WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO STOP!!! I AM INTRIGUED BY HER CHARACTER AND EVERYTHING THAT KEEPS HAPPENING TO HER AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!!!!!
Usually when I get free ebooks I don't expect them to be that great, but jeez, this was sick! Drug dealing little girl with kick ass superpowers? Heck yeah!
