A life full of children and mysteries to solve doesn't leave much time for relaxation or each other, something Lumie wants to help fix for Dane and Mercury by way of arranging a picnic. But good intentions and life rarely cooperate, and Dane knows it's only a matter of time before all hell breaks loose.
Hell turns out to be someone using Quicksilver's name to destroy buildings, but there's no way to tell whether the enemy is an impostor or a trap—and only one way to find out. Hopefully it won't mean missing the picnic.
When Mell Eight was in high school, she discovered dragons. Beautiful, wondrous creatures that took her on epic adventures both to faraway lands and on journeys of the heart. Mell wanted to create dragons of her own, so she put pen to paper. Mell Eight is now known for her own soaring dragons, as well as for other wonderful characters dancing across the pages of her books. While she mostly writes paranormal or fantasy stories, she has been seen exploring the real world once or twice.

This is a cute follow up to Dragon Consultant, in which the story has moved on five years and everything seems to be pretty much the same as where we left them after the first book – except that Lumie has grown a bit.
I did enjoy this nice easy read, but I’m also a little disappointed too. Five years is a pretty big jump, both in terms of Mercury and Dane’s relationship and life with the kits, as well as the other plot concerning kidnapped dragons and stolen magic. I know it gives Lumie and Alloy a chance to grow up a bit, but they were already maturing fast in the first book that I felt the lost years quite a bit.
There also isn’t a lot of Dane/Mercury time. Mostly we follow Mercury at work, while Lumie interferes with everything and tries to drive Dane mad. I did enjoy the story, but I would have liked to have seen more of the other kits too. Lumie is, of course, my favourite, although he does have an unfair advantage because he keeps cropping up to steal scenes.
If you enjoyed the first book, then this story does continue the overall magic plot. When it comes to Dane and Mercury’s family, though, it’s mostly filled with gaps and missing moments. I did like it, but I’d have preferred more background on those lost years – here’s hoping the next one makes things a little more personal.
(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)
I love the mix of feel good found family, romance, and supernatural mystery detective in this series. The world building is fabulous, and a little different, and the characters are coming into their own with this new story as the kits grow older, and we get to see Mercury at full power.
I’m enjoying Dane and Mercury’s relationship and how it’s progressed in the five years since the events of the last story. They feel very comfortable together, and their personalities fit and complement each other. Lumie’s far older than his years, and always gives the impression of knowing far more than he lets on, which makes for an interesting read.
I like how the supernatural part of the plot is progressing with a mystery solved in this story, but threads still hanging of the overarching series mystery.
I liked Valerie, Mercury’s new work partner. She’s no nonsense, capable, and an interesting character. In the previous story Mercury was still recovering from his injuries. I enjoyed his POV scenes in this story, and the insight into his mindset, and the slightly different world view. I liked seeing Dane through Mercury’s eyes too, and vice versa. Nickel is already a force to be reckoned with.
The magic in this world is interesting and I like the idea of the Federal Bureau of Supernatural Investigation, although I do wonder what their agenda really is. I thought the author balanced the different facets of the story well. I found this story an easy and enjoyable read, and I’m looking forward to more.
To start of this review I need to be honest and say this Novella was just not for me...
This book just dragged for me in parts so I really had a hard time finishing this.. I really did like the first book in this series so I was hoping to see more of the two MC's together to get a better feel for them as a couple. Well I just don't feel them together at all, for some reason these characters just did not connect with me. In other words I did like the characters in this series but I just did not feel like they fit as a couple well. I really did like getting to see all the kit's again and the MC's, I also like the characters this author created in this series I just honestly did not like them together.
So as much as I liked the author's pretense of this series and the first book I just did not connect with this story and sadly this novella was just not for me..
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.
Short review only: I still loved the kits; but the rest, I was as detached as I was with the first book, with the couples or the mystery plot. I am going to pass the rest of the the books in the future, shall the series continues.
I accidentally tripped over this series last fall when the cover of book one caught my eye. So cute and it was on an urban fantasy with baby dragons. Curiosity got the better of me and then whoosh, I was in full-on swoon for a new to me author and series. I couldn't wait to get another go with Dane, Mercury, and the dragon kids.
Book two picks up five years after book one. This was an interesting choice, but for me it felt like the events of book one were more recent save the fact that the guys are in an established relationship and the family is all settled in at Dane's house. Mercury has a job for the FBI's supernatural division (oh yep, the supes are all out in the open and the humans are doing pretty well with this) and is something of a celeb as the first dragon to get such a job since he actually finished college and isn't a wild creature of the woods like most of his race. But though the guys and the kids have figured out how to make life work and become a loving couple and family, they are still on the hunt for the cruel human group that kidnaps dragons to experiment on them and steal their magic particularly since one of their own dragon kits has a brother that was never found.
Life is colorful and into the usual day to day craziness, Dane gets a new case involving a missing dragon family that was attacked by those very humans he's been after, Mercury is given a new partner and assigned a case of a copycat bomber for his one time alias as Quicksilver who destroyed the old experimentation labs, and Lumie decides that Dane and Mercury need together daddy time so insists they go on a picnic.
This is one of the lightest, fun, and exciting urban fantasies that I've ever come across. Adorable dragons, powerful magic wielder, interesting cases, and life in a supernatural investigator's home is never dull. This second story built on the first and didn't lose all the elements I loved in the first book. Their was much more passion in this one for Dane and Mercury, but the relationship is that of an established couple with many children and responsibilities. Fun seeing how they have to sneak 'us' time. I love the paranormal elements along with the ongoing story arc and individual cases that make these urban fantasies. There is a large cast of regular characters due to all the dragon kids, their babysitter, and their connections with the human investigation agencies like the FBSI where Mercury works and has added a curmudgeonly partner who goes through partners like tissue, but is stymied by Mercury.
My only real complaint is that these stories go by so fast because they are short. Nothing about the story feels rushed or under-developed. I'm just sad to see another story done and left to wait for the next installment.
All in all, this is what an adorable, light-hearted urban fantasy looks like and I definitely want more. Recommended for m/m romance dragon loving readers who like a bit of humor mixed in with their serious reads.
I received this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
The supernatural consultant, Dane, is back – and so are his partner, Mercury, and all their adopted dragon kits. The kits may be older now, but that doesn’t mean they are less likely to cause a mess or two. And with some of them teenagers, Dane and Mercury never know what to expect. Dane still runs his consultancy, now with the help of Nickel, an older water dragon kit with a definite talent for investigative work. Mercury has got a job with the FBSI and even though he is a simple analyst for now, with everyone still trying to find the evil dragon abductors who are running illegal experiments on helpless kits, Mercury quickly advances beyond his desk job. Mell Eight’s alternate reality is as enchanting as in the first book, and with a few more revelations about how the dragons’ magic works and who might be behind the experiments, this second volume was as suspenseful and full of action as the first.
En la línea del anterior de la serie. He disfrutado con la lectura y con las aventuras de las crías de dragón. A ver si hay suerte y publican los siguientes pronto.

Dragon Deception is a good continuation of the Supernatural Consultant story, which spans over years and various events of the lives of the family we met in the first book. It begins 5 years after Book 1, which is a huge jump but it fits the timeline in terms of the characters lives and experiences.
The characters are all the same as the previous book: Dane, the son of a God; Mercury, the father of the kits; and all the seven kits: Nickel, Chrome, 'Ron, Lumie, Copper, Alloy and the new recruit Zinc. There are also minor characters that appear, like a pair of rescued dragons, and rescued kit called Goldie, who may or may not reappear in later books. A new but potentially recurring character is Valerie, a member of FBSI, the supernatural version of the FBI.
While Book 1 focused almost entirely, about 70%, on Dane's POV and experiences, with Mercury taking the back seat, Book 2 flips that. Mercury takes centre stage this time, as a member of the FBSI as an analyst. Dane continues to have his part in the story, working on finding missing dragons and following the clues left by the people who captured Mercury and the kids.
Mercury's part of the story is also focused on the same concept, except that he works for the FBSI now and is drawn into a recent bombing of a government building attributed to Quicksilver – the moniker he was used, when he first attacked the government compounds. Knowing he hasn't found any recent government compounds or attacked them to free young dragons, Mercury takes the job seriously. He's paired with Valerie – a woman who has suffered multiple set-backs at work, to the point where she's one more failure from being sacked. None of those issues were her fault, but like Mercury, she's facing an uphill battle to keep her job. Together, they actually work well together despite her abrasive personality and Mercury's big secret.
Valerie becomes an interesting character who I look forward to seeing in future books. Her impact on Mercury is intriguing, but also a great shove in the direction he needs to get more information about the government people hunting dragons.
Overall, I found the story to have a super strong plot, great characters, and I felt like it headed in a really great direction. I love how it took the events of Book 1 and built upon them to continue into Book 2, while still adding more to the world-building and characterisations of the main characters. I like how the book has a contained plot that is revealed and resolved during the pages of the book, but how it also builds on the plot of Book 1 while leaving room for growth in future books.

This is book #2, in the Supernatural Consultant series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. To avoid spoilers, and to understand the series, I recommend reading this series in order.
Dane is trying to find a family who is on the run. He needs to try and figure out where they might be before danger finds them first. It distracts him, but he still makes time for the eight other dragons who demand his attention.
Mercury, meanwhile, has a new partner at work. She is tough as nails and seems to want to drive the investigation. They are looking for what they hope is a copycat and not a greater problem.
The story goes at a fast pace. Characters that have all kinds of personalities pepper the book. I love the mystery weaved throughout. Plenty of humor is dashed inside as well. This is such a great read and well worth the time I spent reading it.

Dane and Mercury along with their brood of seven young dragons have all settled into their lives as a family. Still trying to find and rescue dragons takes up a lot of the men’s time. The rest of their time is riding herd on a bunch of rambunctious, over zealous, smart, scary, and not socially trained terrors. But they are precious, cute and loving.
I liked the story for its entertainment value but I have to say I was disappointed at the five year gap between the first book and this one. While the young dragons personalities were expanded on a bit, Dane and Mercury’s really weren’t.
The author makes use vivid descriptions to explain her story and that and Lumie is why I will continue to read the rest of the books.

Mell Eight manages to combine young adult and adult fiction flawlessly in Dragon Deception.
Deception takes place five years after Consultant and can be read as a standalone, but really what is the fun in not reading about everyone’s past? Everyone is five-years-older but not really wiser (laugh). Dane and Nickel (who is now 13-years-old) are working together on the civilian side to chase down the scientists and kidnappers of dragons.
Now here is where things get really interesting, Mercury is working for the bad guys (well one of them). This gives Eight an opportunity to bring in some very interesting secondary characters. Plus the mystery this story is all about originates from Mercury’s new position. (dun, dun, dun....)
Then we have the now combined shenanigans of Alloy and Lumie. I love them!!! There is a new secondary character named Goldie and colored me intrigued.
This story has magic, action, cinnamon, baby dragons (aka kits), and young love in constant turmoil. Mell Eight constantly throws in twists and humor. This is a family you want to escape to not from. I cannot wait to see where the “Supernatural Consultant” takes me next.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
Entertaining, no romance. Horrible, terrible narration, but the story was compelling enough to keep listening. What makes me wonder, is that dragons are wild beasts living in the woods without tressure, wisdom, culture, or physical power. They are hunted by humans because their magic can be stolen. So, why call them dragons? It is quite a leap from more traditional depiction of dragons. This could be about witches, elves or many other mythical creatures.
I received a copy of Dragon Deception by Mell Eight via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review. This is the second in their Supernatural Consultant series and advances the overall story arc of demi-god Dane and dragon Mercury saving dragons from nefarious evil-doers intent on using them for their magic. The story provides the reader with more insight into the daily lives of Dane and Mercury and their family of six dragon kits, who are much more grownup than in the first book of the series. Mercury is now working for the supernatural version of the FBI and we get to meet his human partner who adds a nice touch of normal to the story. Of course, not everything is resolved so there will be more tales of the crew to look forward to.
This book dips back into Dean and Mercury's five years after book one and it's just as good. The author packs a lot of story into these few pages and I cannot wait to dive into book three to see what these amazing characters next adventure has in store for me.
*I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by NetGalley*
I liked the first book in this series and I loved this one. It's engrossing and entertaining, the characters and the world building are excellent, the plot kept me hooked. Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
Oh how I love these little dragons. 😉 Well, they’re not all exactly little anymore because a few years have passed since the end of Dragon Consultant. They’re still adorable though and they’ve turned into quite the little family.
Lumie is as frustratingly unpredictable as ever and he has a way of making things a lot more complicated than they need to be. He gets the job done… eventually though and to him, that’s all that matters. He definitely means well, which kind of makes up for all the chaos. 😉
These books are short and sweet, but not lacking in suspense, danger and sweetness. I can’t wait to read the next book in the Supernatural Consultant series, Dragon Dilemma – which is coming soon.
I received Dragon Deception in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Summary: This was an incredible and action packed book that began with Dane and Mercury's kits leading the pack with the rambunctious, fun loving characters. Lumie's ability to go anywhere he wants through magical wards and locked doors keeping them wondering what would he get into next. Between Mercury's job at the SuperFeds, dealing with the unique abilities of their kits, Dane's job to assist any dragons in need( which was how he met Mercury and the kits in the first place), to tracking down the individual who was kidnapping dragons there lives are never quiet. It was terrible how the kits were experimented on, but the family and acceptance they have from Mercury and Dane gives them the love that any child need to grow up healthy and happy. It was fascinating when Mercury was asked to assist with field work it coincided with their search for the missing dragons. Pairing Mercury with the stoic and abrasive agent Valerie was funny because he was not at all put off by her hostile attitudes and in the end he and his kits were able to do what no one else was; get through her tough exterior to the woman inside. This book was a riot form beginning to end and I can't wait to see what is next in store in the Supernatural Consultants series.
Had to start with Dragon Consultant book one in the series and then had to binge read all of them, currently on book 3. Dragon Deception is Book 2 and continues 5 years after book one. So the kits are all a little bit older and still very adorable. Dane and Mercury are great together even though there really was no romance involved in book 1 where they got together. It’ is totally the kits that make this series and the antics they get up to. Have to keep reading just to see how Nichel turns out and what Lumie makes happen.
Perfect for when I need a light tale grounded with tiny bits of darkness. No sex overload but they sure enjoyed themselves when they got the opportunity!
part of a series and can be read as a stand alone but a lot of the character development will be missing missing.
Dane and Mercury are 5 years on and closer then ever with 7 growing dragon kits to deal with. Their also chasing up any lead to save anymore captured and tortured dragons. This is a good installment moving us through looking to help more dragons.
