Roi, a black goat spirit, is getting bullied when out of nowhere he’s rescued by the beautiful fire god Xiu. Xiu gives Roi the ability to take human form, and a grateful Roi decides to serve Xiu as his new master.
Goat spirit Roi is in love with his master, the beautiful fire god Xiu. He knows he shouldn’t have those kinds of feelings and so is shocked when Xiu suddenly tells Roi he feels the same for him. Roi hopes that their peaceful everyday existence will continue undisturbed, but then he gets attacked by a demon. Injured in a way that prevents him from maintaining his human form, Roi is forced to return to his ugly goat form. Unable to go back his master's side, what will Roi do?
Well there is one story in this that threw me for a loop. It's very much not my kink but if it is yours then you're good. I was so busy worrying about preparing myself for an age-gap story that this felt totally out of the left field.
Also don't tell me that some kinks are gross of other such nonsense. Not when step-whatever is one of the most searched term in porn ever. Mentally healthy Adults know the difference between real life and fiction.
Fun light read with humor. I love that Naono Bohra does sexy older men with younger lovers. This 2 volume fantasy is series is about a minor spirit, Roi, and a fire god, Xiu, who become lovers when in human form. Will Roi stay once he knows he’s free?
Roi is back, along with his fiery-tempered master Xiu. The two have settled down to domesticity. But their love affair is far from smooth.
Roi still retains a determination to help human beings. In spite of the fact that it lands him in trouble again, he doesn’t waver from aiding human beings. Xiu has learned to accept this—grudgingly—as well as his allegiance to Roi’s little human friend, the boy Masato. The manga charmingly winds their love affair through dealings with human beings, as Roi combats demonic entities, an angry ice goddess and Xiu’s own insecurities.
It’s the latter that makes this graphic novel so fetching. In the first novel, it was mainly Roi who suffered from self-doubt. Now it is Xiu-Sama who wonders if Roi would prefer to be with his human charges rather than stick with his master. It brings a touching vulnerability to the fire god as he literally worries himself sick over his fears that Roi would abandon him.
The main story is accompanied by a short that deals with an uncle and his forbidden affair with his nephew, a willful, handsome youth. Incestuous pairings are common in manga and love among family members is something I’ve encountered in the past. The subject is handled with a certain amount of guilt and yet there is no coercion or subjugation involved. However, if this kind of thing makes you queasy, avoid this manga.
All in all, the relationships are tender, the sexual images of gorgeous men are worth drooling over and the stories run the emotional gamut. I liked this a lot and it’s a satisfying conclusion to this short series.
I think the main theme of this book was anxiety, insecurity and miscommunication. I found the first volume of this series was fun, but I fail to see the point in this one. The characters have no background nor depth, they are just there. I prefer my mangas to have more story. The bonus story was unnecessary. Why put some random characters that do not even have a link with the god/spirit world? Why not bring back Takara and the demonic sword from volume 1 instead of an incestuous romance? I feel this was just an excuse to throw in some sex scenes, and trust me, there is plenty of those, even a little bit too much.
The main story focus on Xiu-sama & Roi. The duo is moving because of Peri, the annoying spirit. Masato wants to present the goat to his friend, one of them is possess by an evil spirit and kidnap chibi Roi. The goat is return to his ugly shape and is ashamed, so he decides to hide from his master. The fire god though that his lover had left him since he has been M.I.A for ten days. Xiu-sama confess to his lover that he cannot live without him, and do not care about his physical appearance. There are two others little stories that are cute (one about Xiu-sama being recall to the divine realm and another one about his birthday), but do not add a lot. A least, the couple get their happy ending.
This continues the love story of ugly goat spirit Roi and beautiful fire god Xiu. In this one In this one Roi gets kidnapped by demons and stuck in his original form and in the second story the pair face an ice goddess forcing Xiu to return to the heavens but will Roi go with him considering how connected to humanity he is....?
There's a bonus story about the incestuous love of an uncle/young nephew who he's raised since a baby - It puts a very positive spin on incest and has a happy ending as well as some very graphic sex scenes - wrong on so many levels. If I didn't like the Roi/Xiu main story this would be getting a big fat 0/10
So I love the mythology used in this series - nice to see an Aztec god getting some manga time and I just love Roi - his chibi goat form is so cute! The sex scenes are really hot but it does feel kind of weird that in bed Roi is the dominant one when in their relationship its totally the reverse - While this has some nice scenes it lacks narrative drive and a decent meaty story. For those who like fantasy based yaoi with smoking love scenes this is well worth checking out. Art is patchy and the bonus story is appalling but the main romance and unique concept make this worth a look.
This manga was more of a 2.5/5 stars, but I decided to round it down to a 2/5 stars. I did enjoy the previous manga more. The problem with this volume is that there isn't really anywhere for the story to go. There's no real development of the plot because most of the characters are gods and so don't have to worry about anything really. The side plots that we saw in the first volume don't continue either, but instead we get more short stories of new people in the same universe for a chapter or two. That disappointed me because I liked the side characters of the first volume a lot, and the plot of the new side characters creeped me out because it was incest. I also felt like the ending was lacking in a conclusion and I was sad to see the way that it did for a particular character that I really liked.
Roi and Xiu's love story makes me so happy. I wish I could read more stories about them. I had to deduct a little from this volume though for one random unconnected story towards the end that I could barely read. I forced myself to skim through it, but it was beyond uncomfortable due to its family pairing, which is where I draw the line. The mangaka could have kept the same spirit of the story without making the two related, even just making the older one a family friend rather than member. Ughh, that aside this volume was charming, adorable, and sexy and I loved it.
The second volume in this series is still really cute, fluffy and spicy, the art style is still superb and is top notch for this genre and how dated these stories tend to be. One of the chapters was pretty out of pocket and totally unnecessary imo. Besides that one chapter all of the rest of it is really great and is a very cute wrap up of the series/story. (I took away a star for the chapter in question).
"Someday Dream" (or some variation of that) chapter was a random uncle x nephew relationship story and I had to skip the entire section.. Age was extremely unclear, so grooming was also a part of the already WRONG relationship. I'd advise just skipping it entirely if you do not want the rest of the manga to be ruined 🙃 it did not add to the main plot so skipping it will not make you feel as if you are missing something.
So I really loved Midnight Stranger for the main story with the two gods in love, especially Roi in his adorable goat form. So the addition of the completely unrelated gross incest story was not cool. I hate when they make these books by shoving every rando thing the author ever did into one volume.
This was much better than the first volume. I loved how Roi and Xui's relationship developed. It was really pure and sweet. The art work is gorgeous as well. Also, there's a fetish in here (kind of), sexual act really, that I ADORED.
I will warn you, the short story at the end of this volume involves a boy and his uncle. So, be warned.
I was soooo happy to get more goat-y goodness. LOL, event enjoyed the appropriately winter seasonal stuff (um, your winter, not my California winter ;). Nothing like a lovely happy ending (or, you know, an ending!!).
Okay, I really enjoyed this and the prior volume, but there was a whole surprise incest short in this one?? Like...nasty, okay. I'd encourage reading the rest, but definitely dodge "Someday's Dream"...
I did not read reviews first so maybe that’s on me but the incest jump scare at the end just was a no for me it for. The chapter Someday’s Dream 126 page to 159 page is where the incest is located and it is not connected to the main story
I really wanted to give this 4 stars. I really did. I love the main couple. They are great together and their personalities and chemistry is great too. The art work is stunning as usual. But yet again the main couple didn't get the whole volume to themselves. More time could have been given to the mains I think and more story progressed as well. Even though the main couple got 2 volumes (sort of) I don't think much really happened plot wise. Just a bunch of little things that didn't really change anything.
Plus again we got two chapters with different couples. One I didn't mind because it was linked to the main couple, I could have been good chapter if more had been involved.
The other chapter included an incestuous relationship between a uncle and nephew... Which some will struggle with for obvious reasons.
I really do love the main couple. I just wish more time had been given to them.
So the main story is wonderful as ever! Roi and Xiu are epic and charming and full of good sweetness. And it's ever entertaining watching somebody touch Roi and Xiu basically losing his mortal shape and becoming his primordial god of fire aspect. Nothing says "I love him! Get your hands off him!" like the untimely and unexpected murder by searing flames from a god of fire who was birthed at the dawn of creation. Also, I much preferred the side story in this volume than the one from the previous volume. It may be because I have a soft spot for whenever people describe something as a "dream" and how they know a dream must come to an end... but maybe not just yet...
So, this is my encouraging review to go out and buy the volumes from SuBlime so that we can see more stories like it. Do you feel convinced? Because short of "Roi turns into a real tiny goat" I'm out of ideas that don't basically have me telling you the entire tale. Work with me here people.
Sadly this is the last volume of Midnight Stranger - I would´ve loved to read more about Roi and Xiu.
The main story is fun and cute as always and the characters get a nice send-off.
The only thing that really bothered me was the chapter "Someday´s Dream" (had nothing to do with the main story). Just... uncle and nephew having a sexual relationship. Nope. NOPE. NOPE!
