I really enjoyed this one. Full of Christmas fun and a Swoony romance.
When I pick up a Christmas story, I want to really feel the fun and spirit of the holidays. A lot of times, the books are simply set during December and you don't really get too much Christmas cheer. Cookie Girl Christmas really exceeded my expectations, it was filled with Christmas cheer. I loved the setting, the cookies, the parties, all of it. Really a great book to get you in the mood for Christmas.
Molly was a very likable heroine. I loved the evolution her character goes through and how she is able to really take a look at her life and be brave enough to try and make changes. I loved Greyson as well, his sarcastic personality and dry humor were fun. I thought they had a fun relationship and I loved when they had a lot of page time together. I thought things moved at a believable pace. Lots of chemistry, fun and heartwarming moments. I liked that they opened up about their pasts and were able to be there for each other.
Overall, this was just an enjoyable read for me. For the most part it was a light and fun book, but did have some deeper moments that I felt helped make the whole book more well-rounded. I would highly recommend this to anyone and look forward to reading more from Ms. Houston! I'll definitely will be keeping my eye out for more books from her.

Read December 2016 - Still a 5 star read! Love it!
Read December 2015
Molly is the proud owner of The Cookie Jar, a successful bakery and party planning business. She has dreams of owning her own storefront bakery. With one more job to do before Christmas, she will finally be able to make her dream a reality. She thinks that with a successful business, she will have everything she will ever need. Yes, she's single and lonely but after the devastation of losing her mom, she just can't let herself love anyone again. She lost too much and doesn't think she'd be able to overcome loss a second time. She just did not plan on the handsome, cocky, annoying Greyson Davenport turning her life and plans upside down!
Greyson is no stranger to loss and decides after years of being away, he would spend Christmas with his dad, stepmom and 2 little sisters. However, things are just too hard for him and he closes up. Defensive, hurt and angry, he lashes out at everyone around him, including Molly.
From the very first meeting, there was instant chemistry between our sweet Molly and handsome Greyson. Things got off to a rocky start but the more effort Molly puts in to each party and activity, she slowly starts to melt the ice around Greyson's heart. When he finally opens up to her, it was the sweetest moment. She really doesn't want to like him, but the more she listens to him and gets to know him, the more she wants to open up to him and share her story. Watching the relationship of Molly and Greyson develop was beautiful! These two were seriously made for each other! Life has been tough for both of them but together they can make it better and learn to love and be happy.
Cookie Girl Christmas is seriously one of the best books I have read in a long time! I loved every minute of it! This book is one that I will definitely be reading again and again. Especially around Christmas time! There is a deeper meaning to this story that really helped to put me in the Christmas spirit. It has also opened my eyes to all the blessings I have in my life, both big and small. I am determined to have a heart full of gratitude this Christmas and to spread it around as much as I can! I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
What do you think about my casting?! These two are the perfect Molly and Greyson... in my opinion! ;) Hehe.

Molly is a woman who loves to bake and is working towards the goal of owning a bakery of her own. I love sweets and love to bake as well, so I felt a cozy connection with Molly. She is also single and has no plans to change that status. Losing her mother as a teenager kind of ruined love for her--why get attached to someone if you might lose him or her? As Molly is working on a big Twelve Days of Christmas job, her last one before finally having enough to make her bakery dreams come true, she meets a real-life Scrooge--Greyson. He is the prodigal son returned and this whole month of parties are just for him. He's got a big chip on his shoulder and Molly wants nothing to do with it...until something changes all of that.
I love a good Christmas romance that really focuses on the holiday and makes me feel those warm fuzzies. I also love it when the story parallels, even loosely, a great Christmas classic and this one delivers! Both Molly and Greyson have issues to work through and resolve and the story faintly plays out like A Christmas Carol. Of course, when a great, clean romance is thrown into the mix, I'm in heaven. I loved the snarky banter and the fun cookie and baking metaphors. This story is full of great characters, a fantastic setting, scrumptious recipes, and more. This is one I need to add to my re-read list each and every year. And now...if you need me, I'll be in the kitchen, trying out these recipes.

A charming Christmas read! Molly is single and plans to stay that way. Sure the nights are cold but she's got her business of baking to keep her warm. So why is it her traitorous heart is so drawn to Greyson Davenport, a trust-fund brat she'd sooner despise than love? Could it be there's a whole lot more to him than she first thought? And can she really trust enough to open her heart after all the hurt in her past? I really enjoyed this sweet romance. I found myself laughing at some points, wiping tears in the next, and smiling throughout. Five shining stars!

This story was so beautiful. I could personally relate to the main character and genuinely felt all the emotions through this short book. I laughed, swooned and I cried. I never cry during books but somehow this one got me and I had tears roll down my face. The Christmas aspects were distracting...but I don't celebrate christmas so that's why. But I still loved the story and the wintry setting. Such a meaningful and sweet read for being so short!

This one was super cute just like all my Goodreads friends said it would be. It's full of all things Christmas so it's the perfect read for this time of year. I really enjoyed reading it and I especially loved all the kissing! :) And now I want to eat cookies. I'm looking forward to more by this author! Content: clean romance, mild swearing

I was surprised I liked this so much. My only complaint is the ending dragged out a bit. It was funny and serious, with depth and good characters. I really enjoyed the recipes at the end of each chapter. I'm glad I bought it so I can try some of them out. This had so really good kisses but stayed very clean. It was fun having a little Christmas in July:}

I really enjoyed this one. Super cute, with great characters and a wonderful message. Any book that references my favorite movie, While You Were Sleeping, earns extra points! :) I look forward to the next book.

I normally don't write reviews for books anymore (mostly because a little click on the stars is all I have time for), but I had to write one for this book. I found it through Bookbub this month. I loved the cute, Christmas-y cover, so even though my Kindle was full of books waiting to be read, I opened this one.
What I loved most about this book--aside from the great writing, cute romance and fun recipes--was the theme of gratitude incorporated. When things get stressful for the MC, she recites little things she's grateful for in her head. I LOVE that. Something so simple and easy to do.
With around-the-clock newborn feedings and a house full of little ones needing attention, I've been feeling exhausted and slightly "less than festive" the past few weeks. I decided to start reciting gratitude affirmations, and low-and-behold, it's working! Thank you, Christene Houston for a fabulous read! I'm a little stingy when it comes to giving out 5 star reviews, but this one definitely deserved it. Looking forward to reading more from you!

On the surface, Cookie Girl Christmas is a charming, lighthearted Christmas Romance. It is actually a very involved, emotional story of two people who have been dealt very difficult situations in their lives. Greyson and Molly both have lost family member close to then, Molly’s mother to cancer and Greyson’s sister to suicide. They each have dealt with their losses in similar and different ways.
Molly had dealt with the darkest type of depression. She has made the decision to remain alone with only her business partner and friend, as well as her immediate family in her life. She will not allow anyone to get close enough to her to love or be loved. Love equals the potential for loss, and Molly will not risk losing someone she loves ever again. For her, it’s best that she remains alone. As part of the way Molly has dealt with her grief is when the anxiety overcomes her, and that is often, she will go into an affirmation of gratitude listing of what she is grateful for at that moment. It is a coping mechanism that works well for her, usually.
Greyson’s sister was a talented artist who had dealt with depression for a very long time. She allowed it to go untreated because she felt that she created the greatest beauty from her darkest places. Greyson had been very close to his sister, but as a teen he’d gone onto do the normal teenage things and was out of reach the night his sister took her life. This event has left him angry and a changed man.
When Molly and Greyson first meet Greyson is at his most annoying and Molly dislikes him almost on sight. However, as his step-mother has hired Molly’s business to provide for a season full of Christmas goodies they will be thrown together far more often than either would like. Circumstances and time will slowly change how Greyson and Molly view each other as they help each other heal from hurts held close for far too long. Their romance is all the more poignant for what each has faced on their own.
I enjoyed Cook Girl Christmas very much both for the charming story and for the acknowledgement of the dangers that depression can bring to our lives. As someone who has suffered through depression I understand firsthand how devastating dealing with this can be. I appreciate the thoughtful and realistic way that those that suffer under depression was portrayed.
Although this story does contain some serious issues, it is also a very entertaining Christmas story with lovely scenes and delicious recipes that I’m planning to try out this holiday season. I would encourage you to take a chance on this story, you will find a very touching, emotional Christmas treat that you won’t want to miss.

Molly and Greyson's story was really fun. I loved that they faced very real obstacles as they got to know each other.
It was a great surprise to have lots of the recipes featured in the book included at the end of each chapter.

I was looking for a light, relaxing, afternoon Christmas romance.
By the 50% point, I had given up hope this was what I was looking for.
As we spiraled, literally into the throes of deep, dark depression, it’s causes, affects, and timelines, I realized, this is the most depressing romance I have ever read.
If you are in the mood for something that will suck every ounce of joy out of your Christmas, out of your heart, out of your soul, I think you may have found it here. It’s just not for me.

What a sweet gem this was! I was expecting a feel-good Christmas love story, which I got, but it was so much more! Author Christene Houston writes beautiful prose and with such insight that really touched my heart. The cookie baker Molly Hayes has kept everyone in her life at arm's length to protect her heart from being as damaged as it was when her mother died. But when a cynical rich boy and a stressful job force her into her feelings, she uncovers what Christmas really means to her.

The author creates a good cast of characters and the slow unfurling of the sorrows at the core of both Molly and Greyson add depth to this romance. Not only a love story but a story about love, about both the joys and costs.
