Wisdom. She may have crafted the worlds by the Maker’s design, she may have been by His side since the beginning, but her heart aches. Her sister is gone. Defected, to a group of rebels who loathe their Creator with every fiber in their beings, who plot His downfall. Her new assignment? Fight them. Defeat them. But how can she fight her sister, when all she wants to do is bring her home?
Folly. Fury seethes within her. Jealous of the attention the Maker lavished on her sister, she turned to a new master and became his favorite. Or so she thought. Determined to prove herself, to become invaluable, she realizes destroying her sister just may be the key to Lucifer’s heart. Her plan? Engage Wisdom. Distract her, defeat her. If only there wasn’t the minor detail she wasn’t counting on. Missing her sister.

It was extremely creative and simply adored the world building of Heaven. (May I please have some crystal glass?) I think the author did an amazing job of capturing the beauty and awe of it as well as its specialness.
However, as much as I loved the world building, even more I enjoyed the relationship Wisdom has with God and her love for others. It was SO beautiful!! Sometimes it was even painful and this story captured the truth of following (or not following) wisdom's call.
Sooooo many wonderful things I could say, but I will leave it at this: If you need/want a read that encourages and shows how amazing God's love is for mankind through fiction, I very strongly suggest this book.
The Internet is a funny place. By visiting various websites and clicking on various links, you can end up discovering some of your favourite stories, videos and music. Such was the case with Wisdom & Folly. I found this beautifully written piece of Christian fiction on Michele Israel Harper's blog (love2readlove2write.com) and was hooked. I rushed through all the posts she'd put up so far and waited impenitently for the next. It was one of those stories where you want to know what happens, but don't want the book to end.
The premise is simple - what if the verses that describe Wisdom and Folly in Proverbs aren't metaphors, but true? What if they were angels? And what if they were sisters? One stands with God, another with Satan.
Any story that explores family bonds is often a good one, in my experience.
Michele Israel Harper does an amazing job of bringing God & Satan, Heaven & Hell, angels & demons to life. My only negative point is that she does draw on material outside of the Bible and one could feel some of it is taken a bit too far. (Having said that, keep in mind that it's Christian FICTION. Not fact.)
The plot goes from the Creation of the World to the Final Judgement, so lots to get your teeth into. The break between one and two is the reign of King Solomon.
This series definitely earns a place among my favourites. Good stories leave you affected. And this one did.
This was a really cool book about Angels and demons. I loved the contrast between the Wisdom and Folly characters. I love the weaving of Biblical history throughout the story. I adore that God's name is Love in this book. God IS love, so it only makes perfect sense. I think if you are a stickler or a Theologian there could be theological issues taken with certain aspects of the book. But if you simply read it for what it is, a work of creative fiction, you will be pleasently surprised. Check it out! It's worth the read!
i was lucky enough to be a winner of this good reads giveaway. big thanks to all involved. i found this read to be of a very different topic than one that i have read before. This might not be a genre for everyone but i didn't mind this story. overall i think that it was interesting and engaging and a great read to pass time with.
To tackle a story like this requires serious dedication to studying the Bible, and the author did not disappoint. Wisdom has been by God's (or Love's) side since the beginning, always entranced by each new design, always loyal. But things take a wrong turn when Wisdom's own sister is beguiled by Lucifer and falls into a group of jealous rebels who rise up against their master, killing off a third of the angels in heaven. Definitely an intriguing read for those who might enjoy a twist on a tried-and-true story.
I was privileged to read this book prior to Michele publishing it, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. While we disagreed a little on a few interpretations of Scripture, they are nothing of any importance, and didn't dilute the pleasure of reading her story. I recommend it heartily.
I have really enjoyed reading this book. It’s such a creative story about what went on “behind the scenes,” if you will, long stories from the Bible. I really love the way she describes the character of God in His words and actions— and in the interactions between the characters. The sheer imagination of this book makes it worth the read if you’re a Bible lover! It will bring fresh connections and imagination into the stories you know in the best ways.
I have read John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost while in graduate school. It was a nice change from all the other stories I had to read in school. The poem is about the angels: Satan, the fallen angels, and the good angels, and their perspective on the new human race that God had created on planet Earth. It shows the fall of Satan and how he persuaded Adam and Eve to take a bite from the forbidden tree.
Michele Israel Harper in her debut novel, Wisdom and Folly Sisters Part I, created a similar story but with a twist. The twist is having the story centers around two girl angels who happen to be sisters named Wisdom and Folly. While Folly wants to follow Satan, Wisdom doesn’t understand her sister’s desire to ignore the Lord. The story tells important Bible stories like David, Solomon, and Noah. Harper allows us to see the stories from a fresh and new perspective. There are even hints of future Biblical events that I know are going to happen. Harper does a great job at inviting me into the description of hell and Heaven. I really feel like she did her research and made both places come to life for me. There were even some moments of me cringing as she described some of the fallen people in Hell. Harper really allowed me to understand by allowing me to climb into Wisdom and Folly’s skin. I felt their struggle as they hurt and were happy.
Fans of Biblical fiction or angel stories will want to pick this up. I anxiously await Part II because I want to see what happens to Folly and Wisdom and how far through the Bible does Harper take her story. Wisdom and Folly Sisters is definitely a great book written by a debut author but she held my attention the whole time while I anxiously turned the pages.
I received a complimentary copy of Wisdom and Folly from Michele and the opinions stated are all my own.
This book is interesting in that it tells stories that any Christian (or anyone who reads the Bible) would be familiar with from a different perspective. Similar to retellings of fairy tales, the intent is a reflection of a new relationship with the familiar characters, not to excite by telling a "new" story. It is rare to find something that personifies one particular facet of a character well. Wisdom is the personification of her virtue. She is not perfect, which I appreciated, but rather a reflection of the ideals of humanity that follow Love. Folly is a personification of the fallen part of humanity. We know what we are doing is wrong, but do it anyway for a reason that enflames our heart to action.

This is not the type of book I usually read, but it was very unique. I enjoyed the intertwining of fiction with history, filling in some blanks of what might have been going on in the spiritual world in early bible times.
This book was a wonderful depiction of the love that exists between God and His creations. I loved the personality of Wisdom, God’s master craftsman, and her genuine spirit. She was imperfect, but relatable and set an excellent example for turning back to God for forgiveness after making a mistake. The relationship between Wisdom and Love was inspiring and emotional.
Harper also did a fantastic job of creating a contrast between God’s love and Satan’s rebellion. There are no gray areas in this story. The depiction of the fallen angels and their actions made me cringe. Over the years, I’ve realized how much Satan hates us, but this story depicts his vile hatred, deception, and eagerness to kill and destroy in vivid detail.
The story was well written and quick to read. I enjoyed every minute of it and looked forward to the second part. This book has also inspired me to read through the Old Testament with fresh eyes; I usually cringe just thinking about it, but now I’m eager to look for His wisdom and presence throughout the early books of the Bible. The expression of God’s love in this book has reminded me that God’s love has existed from the very beginning (and that includes the Old Testament!), and he’s waiting to reveal his wisdom and love through every page of the Bible.
Wisdom and Folly tells the story of the Bible (highlights) from an angel's and a demon's perspective. I am currently going through a study on spiritual warfare, and this coincided with the study very well, giving me a more vivid picture of what was happening. Fast-paced and well-written, part one takes you from Creation through the time of Solomon. The descriptions and dialogue are extremely imaginative and emotive. Michele Harper did a ton of research for these novels and filled in the biblical narrative with creative, imaginative description, dialogue, and storyline. She included a number of scriptural references at the end which are helpful in discerning what is fiction and what isn't, and the story spurs me to go back and reread the relevant passages. It made me ponder many things I had never thought about before. I recommend it for the Christian who needs encouragement that God is in control, or the skeptic who wonders how God can let bad things happen when he loves us so much. Great read!
When I choose this book, I did it to stretch outside of my regular genres. I don't really read books with angels and demons. It certainly did that, though it's your regular supernatural fiction. I was particularly intested in the Biblical events covered. What would it be like to see history from Wisdom's point of view? I certainly found in enjoyable. The writing style is lovely, the charcters more engaging than one might expect of the personification of virtues and vices. Yet still they're a step removed from being human and that amkes it just a little harder to connect. That combined with knowing where a lot of the story was going made it quite easy to put down. It was a slower read than usual.
What an very fascinating tale of the Bible as it unfolds a story of two sisters and essentially the behind the scenes actions that take place in the Bible. I loved the story of the two sisters fighting on opposites of good and evil, but still having this deep love for each other. Different things are driving them and its hard to say who is right and wrong and blurs the line separating the two. I thought it was very well done and incredibly unique. Curious to see how this story will end for these characters.
A well written story that encompasses a lot of the bible. Not something I would usually read but found it interesting and the last chapter has made me want to read the next book in the series.
