Have you ever wanted to date a vampire? Human women required. Must be enthusiastic about interactions with vampires. Must be willing to undergo a stringent medical exam. Must be prepared to sign a contractual agreement which would include a non-disclosure clause. Limited positions available…
Lazarus is the biggest, strongest, the all time scariest of the vampires. He refuses to act like a human because he isn't one, damn it. He'll drink blood, wear his weapons...all sixteen of them and all at once...and growl up a freaking storm if he wants to.
The problem is that the human females within the program are afraid of him. They won't talk to him, let alone allow him anywhere near them. At this rate, finding one to take as a mate is looking more impossible by the day. Then one times firecracker arrives unannounced. Alexandra is the smallest female he has ever seen. She's definitely the most sexy female he's ever laid eyes on. The most exciting thing of all is that she's not afraid of him...not one little bit. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that she likes him very much either. She needs his vote to stay in the program and Lazarus plans on making her work for it. On winning her over and using every trick in the book to make it happen.
The story contains strong sexual themes/language and is not intended for readers under the age of 18. Although this is a standalone novel, it would be best enjoyed as a part of the series. No cliffhanger!

I loved Lazarus. Really loved him! He saved an otherwise dreadful book. Hated the heroine. I cannot tolerate a liar or a chicken. But especially a liar. Plus she lied for no good reason other than vanity.
I know she tried to recover, and I was thrilled Lazarus made her grovel. But on balance, I just cannot rate highly because she sucked huge.
I was a little disapointed in this one. I think Lazarus deserved better than Alex. And I cry for him because of it. I don't know if I would've been able to forgive her after all the shit she pulled.
*me being a bitch* "OH! BUT SHE LOVES HIM!' Yeah, and!?!?!
Lazarus quickly closed the door. “This would be my cue to head to bed… a-fucking-lone. Don’t think that I will forget”— he pointed at Gideon—“ you owe me.” He spoke softly, keeping his voice at a barely audible level. Lazarus ran a hand through his hair and grinned widely. “You both do realize that I have a reputation to uphold here, right? It’s important that your female make lots of noise . Panting, screaming…” He shrugged. “I’m really good at pleasing a female. I would hate for anyone to think otherwise.” “Who’s fucking joking? It looks like both of you can use some lightening up.” Lazarus turned to look at her. “Oh and…” He paused for a long while . “Please be sure to scream my name when the time comes.”
Poor Lazarus. He's very good at rutting and has fought his way into the program, but the human females had won't give him the time of day due to his massive size, growling and unapologetic vampire badass nature.. until a little female - with lovely mammary glands, but less than honorable intentions - crashes into his life...
I've loved the cuddly teddy bear/ dangerous elite guard ever since he offered to cover for Gideon in the last book. But in his own story we finally learn that size really does matter. Or does it? Sometimes good things come in small packages... Ha, at least it made for some fun innuendos ;-)
4 (☆) cuddly teddy bears. Or as Lazarus would prefer; 4 don't-you-need-a-licence-for-that-weapons... ;-)
The previous 2 books in this series were okay, but this one was the pits. I really liked Lazarus from the other two ("York" and "Gideon") and had been eager to see who he got matched with in his own story, but Alex is hooooooooooooooooorrible.
Her personality is just awful-- she's rude, demanding, dishonest, and flat-out too stupid to live. There's nothing for Lazarus to fall in love with, so the romance between them feels forced. I ended up just feeling terrible for him-- he deserves so much better.
Most notably Alex is dumb as a brick about getting pregnant, not being on birth control... after *specifically being asked if she were on it, and lying that she was*, she commences upon a multi-day bang-a-thon with Lazarus and then is shocked! shocked I tell you! when she gets pregnant. As if it's the most amazing surprise in the world that the one follows directly after the other.
The worst, however, is the over-the-top anti-abortion nonsense when her pregnancy is confirmed. We get it, author, you're pro-life, but you can back off the "I won't murder my baby!" stuff. It's alienating and just as disrespectful of pro-choice readers as it would be for me, as a pro-choice writer, to make a really judgey point about anti-choice people trying to co-opt control over a woman's body. No one is reading these things to get lectured about political issues.
Because of this, despite wanting to read how future stories go, I won't be reading any more of this author's books.
Of all the unconventional characters in this series, Lazarus has the be on top. Huge, scary, raw are just some of the words that describe him. Of course, his mate has to be someone who complements him and he has met his match in Alexandra. She may be in complete contrast to him, but man, has he met his match with her. You aren't going to get any spoilers from me but let's just say there are quite a few surprises in store for all parties involved. This installment is one of the best in this series
I disliked Alexandra from the first, so even though I started out a fan of Lazarus, it ended up impacting my opinion of him because of who he ends up in love with. To her credit, she became a little more tolerable after she gets hit with the consequences of telling all those lies.
3.5 stars. This has been my favorite book in the vampire program series thus far. Alex and Laz are amazing! I really loved both of their characters. Alex is feisty and doesn’t take any crap from anyone and Laz though very cocky is such an awkward and lovable guy with a tad bit on insecurity here and there.
Once again since the stories are happening simultaneously we have to replay multiple scenes but for some reason in this book it didn’t bother me as much. For real though.. what is with the “mammary glands” thing. I mean I’m all about raunchy smut here and there but calling breasts mammary glands is awkward and not at all sexy imo.
I am embarrassed to admit that I’m just realizing that the kings are mates to one queen? Is this true? Gah I’m going to have to back track once again and find the story on that since I’m just now realizing this.
This has been the most well rounded story of this story so far to me. I really liked Alex’s proactive stance on media coverage for the program and hope to see some great changes for them in their hater fights in the future books.
4 🌟🌟🌟🌟 - A solid and engaging story for Lazarus and his feisty mate Alex
Although this story didn’t have as much danger and drama as the first two novels A Mate for York and A Mate for Gideon from Charlene Hartnady’s The Program series I still really enjoyed it. The book contains major spoilers for the first two novels and you learn a lot about Lazarus in the initial two books as well that help to inform his behaviour towards Alex. For this reason although it is a standalone HEA for Lazarus and Alex, it’s best enjoyed by reading the series in order and if possible read the Chosen series, from which this series is a spin off and also has spoilers for.
The novel’s timeline runs concurrent with some of the events from the previous novel A mate for Gideon, which at times seems a little weird if you’ve read the other novels you already know what is going to happen with Gideon and his mate Jenna.
I really like Lazarus, from his interactions with York and Gideon in their respective novels he was always a little gruff, unapologetic in being himself, but a big softie with a gooey centre at his heart. The fact all the women in the program bar Jenna find him scary is heartbreaking and you really feel for him. Then along comes the firebrand that is Alex, she intrigues him from the first and doesn’t seem to be afraid of him no matter what. Lazarus is instantly attracted but senses her motivations don’t entirely add up.
Alex is determined to get her story and prove her worth as a journalist and make her father proud. Desperate to get in on the Program she arrives late after a mix up over being contacted with the details. Now her only chance to secure a place is if one of the elite males chooses her. Alex must convince Lazarus to choose her if she’s ever to get her story, but what she didn’t account for was feeling so attracted to the gorgeous hunk.
It’s a simple story, but nicely written with some lovely humour. the attraction between Lazarus and Alex sparkles off the pages and the novel is at its best when Lazarus is trying to convince Alex to go further in their relationship and Alex is trying to maintain some distance. Throughout you’re pulling for the two of them to make it as a couple and get over the barriers that stand between them.
Overall it’s a sweet read, which given Lazarus’s size and reputation seems a bit ironic. Well worth a read and looking forward to the next instalment A Mate for Griffin.
Lazarus was hot! Scary: check Inhuman : check Big vs tiny : check Romantic : check Feisty but not overdoing it: check all check
but why I really really like this story: It was fun, with a total opposite approach but moreover there was a plot, an deception, a drama and most importantly how much a honest, crass vampire could be soft, kind, yup a teddy muscle bear. I don't normally love instant falling in love, which wasn't the case of this book, it took some time with a lot of interaction. And she wasn't that blind and he also talked about it. I'm just going with the story and it fit for me. I really really loved this couple, the glimpse I got from the previous one just made me want to read this one. There was a great introduction about Lazarus and his struggles (dating, mating, being himself) then the opportunity, he used it. When I got to read the book, it was more than that. More than my expectations. I went with a girl who would do whatever she could but that thought was gone since the author create a charming journalist, yeah she did things, she choose a path but she had a goal. There was a story so that the story. Sure I did have an idea how it would go but still it was pretty damn good.
Next, I read the little synopsis for the next book, I'm just a bit confused Griff' helping his friend, which one? (because now I know how this series work, it works in parallel). And Lance, jerk indeed but I feel like Sarah but I just want to know more.
I am ADDICTED to this series; I can get enough of this paranormal romantic goodness. With alpha males in all shapes and sizes with Ménage à trois, MFM love triangles (eat your heart out), Vampires, Shifters, and Elves. It is Sexy, it is Sizzling, it is smoking Hot, it is Erotic so much so that it jumps right off the pages and leaves you needing a cold shower. Sassy, headstrong females, and fighting to the death is not uncommon. So, what happens when smoking hot vampires and shifters, mortal enemies want the same thing; this is where things get so interesting, and the fun begins. These men are ruthless, they are vicious, power players, they are violent. There is lots of action, danger and war around every corner but given all that they love fast, they love with their whole heart and make you want to go and find your own. Charlene has woven a captivating, tangled web of lies, deceit, suspense, drama and love that will leave you breathless. The characters are to die for, and each have their own voice in this series. I love that we get their POV because it makes them more real. It is not all doom and gloom though there are plenty of witty moments and humour that will have you laughing out loud. Don’t even stop to think just click and read and tell me I am not wrong. Happy reading!
Lazarus is not only a hunk. He is a giant of a vampire, covered in leather with sixteen weapons strapped to his enormous muscles and drinking blood from clear glasses. In front of the women in the Program. He is a smart vampire; he will not pretend to be different from his real self to please a woman. His strategy is sound. Who can keep up with lies for the rest of a very long life? And the women in the program are supposed to enjoy vampires. Lazarus is a fine specimen but too scary for them. When a woman knocks at the vampire's gates with a sassy to her, and no fear for him, Lazarus sees he has found his mate. But the woman is not up to the idea, she has her own agenda. A Mate for Lazarus is funny. He is a guy with brains and he uses it. Something that nobody associates with a man his size. But stupid is not his middle name. Lazarus knows how to play and he goes for the kill. His mate stands no chance. Even when he knows the truth about her, he shows his amazing personality. A Mate for Lazarus is a declaration. Never judge a book by its cover or never judge a vampire by his enormous size or his many weapons. Amazing character. Superb read.
This book would’ve got more stars if the proof reader had done a better job. All the way through this book, Alex is referred to as Jenna at key times when there is more than one female character involved. The last page the author has mixed up the human characters with their mates vampires. It’s frustrating. Jenna isn’t with Gideon but Sarah is. So who’s pregnant?? Frustrating. This series is obvious and basic which is fine but at least get the basics right. Aside from that - nice with a HEA
First I want to say that I really wanted to like this book...Lazarus just made you want a HEA. He may have gotten the girl, but no,just no. I stopped reading at 32% since I just couldn't handle him ending up with her. She was one of the most unlikable characters you are meant to like I've seen in a while. Sorry but yeah no.
DELICIOUSLY CUTE AND DELIGHTFULLY ENTERTAINING !!! Title: A Mate for Lazarus Series: The Program Designation: Book Three of Series, Standalone Novel, NO Cliffhanger Genre: Paranormal Vampire Romance Author: Charlene Hartnady Reading Platform: Kindle Unlimited My Rating: FIVE DELICIOUSLY SEXY STARS***** WOW! Like really, really WOW! It's no secret that I love everything Charlene Hartnady writes but she has really outdone herself this time! Yes, I've repeated the word really three times in the first few sentences but that's because I REALLY love this story! Oops....make that five times! Charlene Hartnady has dazzled us yet again with A Mate for Lazarus, the third release in her riveting new series, The Program and she totally knocked this one out of the park - again! Don't get me wrong, I have truly enjoyed every single release in this series but Lazarus has become my new book boyfriend. I think this release may very well be my new favorite - at least until she releases Book Four. It's going to be hard work indeed to top this story but I'm confident, if anyone can do it, Charlene can. I was completely captivated from page one and simply could not stop reading. Oh yes, this book has it all. Love steamy passion and dreamy romance? Well, it's included. Want lies and drama laced with a super large helping of angst? Yep, it has that too. Lots of sexy, sassy banter? Most definitely! Have to have heartbreaking tears and a few unexpected plot twists? Well, your in luck because they're also included. Prefer a read with a lot of bite? You bet! Must be a story that will tug on your heartstrings but still leave you with a silly grin and a serious case of the warm and fuzzies? Abso-freaking-lutely! As I said - this book has it all. I laughed! I cried! And I found myself holding my breath while my heart skipped and stuttered! Who am I kidding? I balled like a baby the entire final quarter of the book. Yes, it's that good! So, what are you waiting for? Grab it and start reading. And the best part - these books are all standalone stories with NO cliffhangers. However, having said that, I would highly recommend reading all the books in the series. I think one of the things I enjoy most about this series is the fact that so far, the events of the first three books have all occurred simultaneously involving many of the same characters requiring the author to carefully orchestrate and coordinate each with the other which is no small feat. It's much more difficult than it sounds but Charlene has managed to make it look easy. I love it! The story is original, unique, well crafted, fast-paced, cute, fun, romantic and seductive. Heck, I'm 63 and even I wanted to apply for "The Program." The narrative is exceptionally well written in the third person with alternating his and her points of view. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well executed and flows seamlessly. The entire book is extremely well edited which is always a big plus for me. The characters are an absolute joy. They are captivating, fascinating, engaging, endearing, sexy as sin and at times, laugh out loud funny. Another big plus for me is the recurring appearance of characters from Charlene's previously released books. It is always such a treat to see how our favorite characters are doing. Charlene skillfully combines these elements into a delightfully entertaining tale filled to the brim with side-splitting humor, fun-filled adventure, heartbreaking angst, a generous measure of a romping good time and loads of dreamy romance! Where can I sign up for "The Program?"
Kings Zane and Brant are now proud papas of a bouncing baby boy named Sam and when they aren't trying to keep Queen Tanya happy and satisfied, they're both busy implementing their new "Breeding Program" also known as "The Program." What? Breeding Program? Oh yes, I said breeding program. Zane and Brant have learned through Ward, Stephany's new alpha wolf mate, that humans are, in fact, strong enough to survive a mating with shifters and vampires other than the kings. It seems the shifters have been doing it for years, in secret of course. The Kings have finally embraced this new idea and have been hard at work drawing up the contracts with the humans and finalizing the arrangements. Their hard work has finally paid off and they're launching the first stage of "The Program" by advertising for women to volunteer to date a vampire. Huh? Yep, the initial trial will be called "The Dating Program." Wait - what? What's the difference? Well, I'm glad you asked. The difference is that there will be no mating and no sex with the participants of the initial trial. It will be blood-drinking only. What? Oh, did I forget to mention that part? This trial is for three days only and is strictly to determine if the chosen vampire males can drink blood from the human women without experiencing bloodlust. Oh my! Unfortunately, quite a few vampires suffer from the affliction which can turn calm, disciplined vampires into blood crazed maniacs who can drain a human of all their blood within minutes. Oh no! And, there's no way to tell who will succumb to bloodlust until they actually drink from a human. Yep, that's right! It can be a bit risky. So the vampire males who want to be part of The Program compete in battle against each other to earn their slot. Ten elite vampires are chosen to participate in the program and if they pass the initial phase without succumbing to blood lust, they pass to the next round and will be able to choose a mate from the human females. But the human women will be carefully screened and will also be monetarily compensated so it's worth the risk, right? It would seem so, that is if they survive. Just a minor little problem but all precautions and security measures have been taken. Unfortunately, all of this has become a necessary risk since vampires are becoming extinct. Although it's dangerous for human women to give birth to vampire babies, most female vampires cannot safely birth children at all and have to be sterilized. Sadly, the births resulting from vampire/human unions have been only male children. As a result, there's a shortage of viable women thereby creating the problem - they need human women. Fortunately, the initial testing stage of 'The Program' is finally over and all the participants managed to survive, but the second dating stage which allows dating, blood drinking and, of course, sex has now begun. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy about this newest little development and have already made an attempt on the life of King Zane and one of the human female applicants. So now it seems that the vampires and everyone involved with The Program may be at risk. Oh my goodness!
Twenty nine year old Alexandra Stone wants to be an award winning journalist just like her deceased father. Not only does she want to walk in his footsteps, she wants to forge her own path as well. She desperately wants to be able to write her own ticket, make her own career and gain her own recognition and not just as the daughter of brilliant journalist, Peter Stone. She's determined to make a name for herself in the world of journalism. Being the senior reporter for the Sweetwater Press will not gain her the recognition she seeks but being accepted into 'The Program' and writing an exclusive story on the vampire kings and their new dating program could be her big break. Even if she doesn't score an interview with the kings, she expects to at least get a great story from her personal experience. What she did not expect was to fall completely and totally in love with the biggest, baddest and best-looking vampire of them all. Oh my! And Lazarus is all that and so much more. But she couldn't allow her feelings for the vampire to stand in the way of her getting what she wants - the story of a lifetime. Yet, she doesn't want to hurt him. At least, not any more. After all, he is the sweetest, sexiest and most badass vampire she's ever seen and miraculously, for some reason, he seems to want her - curves and all. Unfortunately for Alex, she missed the required training and orientation so she has no idea how to interact with the vampires. So, what's an aspiring journalist to do??? I guess she'll just have to wing it! Oh my!
Unlike many of the other elite guards, Lazarus is a simple man with simple desires. He only wants one thing - a human mate who will love him as he is - weapons and all! And of course, to not be terrified of him would also be a big plus. All the human females in the Program are frightened to death of him. At this rate, he'll never find a female. Or would he??? When sexy little spitfire Alexandra Stone, turns up at the gate of the castle insisting that she's been approved as a member of the program, Lazarus can't believe his eyes or his luck. She's a little firecracker and doesn't appear to be afraid of him - not one little bit. He wants her! But he also senses there may be more to her story than she's revealing and it could just be a deal breaker. Oh my! Let the games begin! Buckle up my lovelies! Here we go again! Beautiful aspiring journalist-check! Handsome sexy elite vampire guard-check! A wonderful cast of characters-check! Lies, deceit and betrayal-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, adorable humor, heartbreaking angst and a love so sweet, it will stop your heart-you bet! That and a whole lot more! I can hardly wait for the next book in the series, A Mate for Griffin. Deliciously cute, seriously sexy, completely captivating and delightfully entertaining! So, what didn't I like about this book? Not a darn thing! Would I recommend this book??? You better believe it!
Warning: mature sexual content, mature themes, and language.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is book three of seven of The Program series. (Set in the same world The Chosen Series)

Oh, my bleeding eyes! Be aware the "F" bomb is used in every other sentence so don't be surprised if you find your self responding to someone with "not a f**k!
It is easy at first to write Lazarus off as a foul-mouthed behemoth! Every other word out of his mouth is crass but he means no harm...usually. Can't imagine why the human women are afraid of him--all except one daring soul who has an agenda.
Alexandra Stone is a last-minute arrival to The Program. She weasels her way in, with Brant's approval, and zeros in on Lazarus to further her agenda. Alexandra is the smallest human Lazarus has ever seen, and of course, he is drawn to her. Lazarus is a huge, hulking vampire with an attitude...and a big heart.
Lazarus wears his feelings on his sleeve. He is a vampire..."We're an honest bunch. We don't know how to handle deception." I think this is one of the best lines in the book. Sad but certainly true, we are a deceptive bunch.
This is the best installment in the series thus far. I really fell for Lazarus, foul mouth and all, because of his vulnerability and innocence. He's the total package once you get to know him. I wasn't sure if Alex would be able to redeem herself in order to deserve him. In the end, I had to forgive her for her sins as she made amends.
The true villain of this story is Lance and the true victim, Griffin.
after reading prievous book i could wait to read this book, so i read the reviews hoping to get some spoilers. but after reading some of the reviews i was upset. i considered not reading it. i love the character (Lazarus) and i wanted him to get a great female. but after reading the review i didnt think it was going to happen. luckly i had already order the book so i thought i might as well read as it will give me leads up to the next book. but i was ready to hate it. the book was great. the characters were well written and for the idiot that pulled it down. if you are going to write a review at least read the whole book. it hard to get the whole picture if you dont have all the information.
if you like supernatural romance books you should read this book. charlene hartnady is one of the best writers. but you should really read all her books in order. i have enjoy ever one of her books so far.
I freaking LOVED this book. I LOVE Lazarus! LOVE LOVE LOVE ♡ big cuddly teddy bear ♡ Normally I dont care for this kind of story. I just hate that kind of deception. Even though she did fall in love for real in the middle, I just dont care for that kind of story line. I dont usually end up likely that character in the end.
BUT I didnt hate end up hating Alex. I thought Charlene wrote Alex very well. Charlene made her seem really torn up about her lies. Made it believable for me to forgive her for hurting the big o teddy bear named Lazarus lol
I loved that Alex, Cass, and Jenna all became pregnant at the end.
Five stars!

A Mate for Lazarus: The Program Book 3 By Charlene Hartnady Kindle unlimited purchase Lazarus is big even by vampire standards. All the human females on vampire territory aren't looking his way. They would rather have one of the other vampire males. Alex is a reporter, just like her dad was. She joined up for The Program for all the wrong reasons. But when she looks at Lazarus all she sees is a big teddy bear. Laz and Alex's story is hard to read. You can feel how much he loves her and know when he finds out about the REAL reason she is there how much it is going to hurt him. But this does have a HEA
Who cannot love Lazarus he is big bold definitely alpha male but with a sweet soft centre. Alexandra is a small time journalist who wants to make it big and tricks her way into the program to get her big story she is feisty and tough and Lazarus is deeply attracted to her and she is not afraid of him like most other women are. These two fall in love even though she had been determined not to get involved with a Vampire of course the truth comes out and her original reasons for being there almost break them but love wins through in the end. A great story with lots of interesting twists.
I loved Lazarus but hated Alex. She frustrated me SO much it wasn't even funny. She lied throughout when she could if told him the truth when they were having one to ones. If I was a dude i would've been disappointed if Alex was my mate. I think Lazarus saved the book for me. I'm still going to read the rest though (it hasn't put my off that much) hopefully the leading heroines will be better than Alex 😏🙄
I couldn't wait to read Lazarus's story he's big he's bad and will not change for no one. He wants a mate like all the other males but he's not going to take his weapons and start prancing around like a female, he's all alpha male. He needs a strong woman and in comes Alexandra, small but she make up for with her attitude. She stands up for what she believes. I'm not giving any spoilers this book is so good you won't be able to put it down.
