Includes folklore, songs, poems, and recipes of Middle Earth, a collection of articles about Tolkien and his works, a biography, reading list, and directory of national and international Tolkien and fantasy societies and publications.
Things this book has: -Tolkien biography -contemporary reviews of his books -“literary” criticism -fandom history up to 1978 -fan-written haiku in both English and elvish -recipes -fanfic -fanart -a treatise on the “coinage of Gondor and the Western Lands”
This is probably one of the more bizarre emanations of Tolkien fandom. It contains a smorgasbord of reactions to Tolkien's works, primarily the Lord of the Rings, including Edmund Wilson's famously hostile review, and W.H. Auden's equally famous rave. It also includes what can only be described as fan-fic (very carefully written/edited to steer clear of the copyright lawyers), recipes, illustrations, and sundry other items. Weird and interesting.
