Alpha Marc Thierry was used to the North Woods of Minnesota, so his elevation to third on the loup garou council necessitated a move to a Gramacy section of New York City. On Monday nights, his housekeeper is off and Marc doesn’t like casseroles. He orders Chinese and gets a musical voice on the line that calls to him.
To his delight and surprise, the guy on the phone delivers his food and is his destined mate.
Unfortunately for Marc, Colin Callahan thinks the only reason Marc could want him is biological -- he has to like his mate. Colin has a scarred face and thinks no-one could love him as he is.
AC Katt was born in New York City’s Greenwich Village. She remembers sitting at the fountain in Washington Square Park listening to folk music while they passed the hat. At nine, her parents dragged her to New Jersey where she grew up, married and raised four children and became a voracious reader of romantic fiction. At one time she owned over two thousand novels.
Now, most of AC’s books are electronic (although she still keeps six bookcases of hardcovers), so she never has to give away another book. AC writes GLBT andis to writing, a late bloomer, however, she’s found her niche writing GLBT romance. She currently writes for MLR Press, JMS Books, and Decadent Publishing

This was a delightful story, made even more enjoyable by the audio performance of the very talented Joel Leslie.
Alpha werewolf Marc Thierry moved to New York City after a promotion on the werewolves’ council in Minnesota. When the delivery boy for his Chinese takeout order arrives at his apartment, Marc is stunned—here is his lifemate—after 140 years of living alone and despairing of ever having one. However, it’s going to take some smooth-talking to convince the young man, Colin Callahan, whose self-esteem is extremely low. Colin was severely burned when he was eleven years old and the scar on his face has ruled his life ever since. His burn was the cause of his parents’ divorce, and then after his firefighter father was killed on the job, his mother committed suicide. Colin has taken on the blame for all of it.
But Marc is persistent and finally convinces Colin that his scar makes no difference and isn’t even a thought on Marc’s radar. With the help of the other two werewolves on the council and their mates, all of whom were apparently the MCs in previous stories, Marc succeeds in securing his lifemate’s devotion.
There’s plenty of action and adventure in this one, including a killer alpha she-wolf, so the pace is fast and the story very interesting.
The author took the time to fill in any gaps readers may have due to not having read the previous books, and this reader is grateful for that since I hadn’t read either of the previous two books. Because of the clever way the information is backfilled, I have no problem recommending this book to anyone who loves shifter romance—even those who haven’t read the first stories.
Joel Leslie’s narration is outstanding, as usual, offering a variety of vocalizations and accents so that all of the characters are unique—and there are a lot of secondary characters in this one! I especially loved Colin’s Irish accent, but honestly, each person “fit” the voice he gave them. Overall, this made for a very enjoyable listening experience! In fact, I liked the story and narration so much, I am going to go purchase the early books and/or audiobooks so I can get the full enjoyment from the series and I recommend it highly to all.
Colin Callahan was scarred in a fire as a child. He carries that scar physically and emotionally, dressing to hide it as much as possible. He attends the university now and delivers Chinese food to supplement his income. Delivering a large order one night, he meets Alpha Marc Thierry. Marc cannot believe that the shy man who delivered his food is his mate. He tries to convince Colin how much he wants him but Colin is sure he only wants him due to biology. After all, how could he love someone with a scar like his?
Anyone who had a problem as a child knows how cruel others can be. Colin suffered much for his scar and now wants to just keep a low profile. Marc has no problem with the scar but must convince Colin. He quickly realizes he would do anything to make Colin happy. Marc is third in on the loup garou council which means he can call on the other alphas for help. It was fun seeing the other couples from the first two books. AC Katt was a talented writer and leaves us an incredible legacy with her stories. This is one series that is not to be missed.
This is the third installment of AC Katt's Werewolves of Manhattan. Katt has changed a few details but the story stays the same. Werewolves are still drinking Coke Zero, I can not count the times they talked about shopping. Has no one heard of Amazon same day or next day? If they are wolves LET’S SEE SOME WOLVES!!!!! Katt denied her readers a good she-wolf fight. In fact the action scenes are something Katt avoids but frustratingly sets up the plot for a fight. An eye rolling point: A romance writer sure as heck should know how to have sex even if he’s a virgin. Give me a break. I’m done.
Ugh. There was so much exposition on things and places that never lead to any plot point. Before the characters ever leave New York to go to the pack homestead in Minnesota there is so much talk of the mansion, the layout of the rooms, the power the house uses, the clothes they need to buy... the weird plug for Duluth Trading Co... and all that setup is for nothing. Didn’t need to know the mansion we’re going to is going to switch to wind power in the future if there isn’t going to be a lights out moment in the plot. The plot points that are set-up like the reason to go home early and the final attack are all drawn out in long expositions setting them up before you get there in the plot and when something does happen in the moment it’s rushed and quick and anti-climactic. The resolution of the villain is very unsatisfactory and happens almost off camera. The repetition of “my face is scarred how can anyone love me” a million times gets tiring and every time plays out exactly the same. Also, the main character writes romance shifter novels but we know very little about what his books are about other than the characters act morally and they are 75% accurate. There is so much more that could have been done with that storyline. Like, was he writing these books cause he was fated to be a mate? So much potential was wasted in this book, it’s a shame.
I am in the middle on this book. I liked and I didn’t.
I liked, for the most part, the characters and the evolution of the relationship. I felt for Colin and understood his self-consciousness to a degree. People can be cruel especially children growing up. The way Marc deals with it and tries to make Colin understand how he sees Colin is sweet and cute. The help of the secondary characters is also nice.
I did not like some of the writing style. At times it seemed stilted and really lost the emotional component. It didn’t feel like I was reading a romance. It just really lost the edge and left me unevolved in the story.
Also some of the conflicts were sort of unnecessary in my option. They didn’t add anything to the story I felt. They were more as a way to make it longer and just add filler.
So all in all this book has left me really conflicted on how I feel about it. I liked the relationship between Marc and Colin. I enjoyed their connection. I did not like the added extras so much. The book was good on one hand and kind of and unemotional and boring on the other.
My husband would equate this to watching a really bad movie where you can tell the dinosaurs are plastic and there are telephone poles in the background.
Stilted unemotional retelling of events. Predictable ending with lots of man tears.
Colin Callahan worshiped his father, a firefighter in New York. But he was accidentally scarred in a fire as a child, his mother never forgave her husband and the family was never the same. Then Colin came out to her as a teenager and his mother rejected him as well. Life hasn't been easy, Colin has done his best to hover in the shadows, keep to himself and his sole focus is on graduating and starting a career. One food delivery turns his life upside down and changes all his plans.
Due to actions and incidents in the previous books, Alpha Marc Thierry has been promoted to third Alpha of the loup garou and must live part of his time in New York. He just might be the worlds oldest virgin as he believes in the customs of his people, that he has one person destined to be his mate and he'll wait for that person. Imagine his surprise when the scarred deliveryman that is jumpier than a jack rabbit turns out to be his destined mate.
While Marc works overtime to convince Colin they belong together someone in Marc's home pack in Minnesota is working overtime to make sure that the two do not mate. Secrets are revealed, lies uncovered and traders unmasked as Marc races against time to learn the truth, and save his mate.
I love how each new book is a continuation from the previous story. I completely disagree that this can be read or listened to as a stand alone story. You won't recognize any of the secondary characters or have any clue what they are referencing at times if you don't read/listen in order. You'll also be missing out on Joel Leslie's utterly amazing vocal talents. Leslie expertly delivers a multitude of accents in this story including French, Scottish and pissed off Alpha Wolf.
My only complaint with this book is the same complaint I've had with the other stories in the series, why do female wolves have to be degraded by constantly being referred to as "bitches"? I do not care if that is technically what they are, it grates on my nerves and pulls me out of the story every, single time. Aside from that, I am really enjoying these stories and I do hope Leslie will be bringing the others to life.
These books are hard for me to review, first because I really and saddened by the loss of their author and also because I can see so much about them that I love but also so much that I struggle with. One of my complaints of the writing has always been that Katt was not as good at showing as she was at telling. She had wonderful world building and was really good at telling us all about it, but not so great and immersing us in it and showing us the details. Sometimes her dialog is a bit stiff and her attention to minutia a bit tedious (ie the eating and the repetition about all the rules and the hierarchies etc.) I also wish her wolves were more "wolf-like" - they only ever shift once or twice in each story and their characteristics shared with their animal forms are fairly few and far between. However, I love that the Alphas are (mostly) virgins and that each story builds on the last and that the feelz are always really rewarding. I'm definitely going to miss this series if no one else picks up the thread. 3 of 5 stars Audio Joel Leslie was such a great choice for narrator for this series because there are so many characters with unique accents and this is his forte. In this story we even get a Minnesotan set of accents! I love the flavor he brings to these stories and he absolutely elevates the entire experience for me. He gives our main character Colin a lovely Irish lilt without being overwhelming and that made my day! Highly recommended in audio format! 5 of 5 stars Overall 4 of 5 stars
Colin was scarred on the face after running into a fire because of his father hadn't come out of the fire when he was a kid. Now he is delivering Chinese in order to save money. When he delivers to Marc, he can't help the pull he feels towards him, but he doesn't believe that Marc could actually like him because of the scars. Marc will do anything to keep Colin in his life, but when Colin learns Marc secret, he runs.
Colin had some major self worth issues, and while Marc did everything possible to show Colin that he truly cared about him, it wasn't easy for Colin, but he was able to overcome those self doubts. This aspect made the story more enjoyable for me, its nice to see a character struggle with something that normal people struggle with and overcome those issues.
There were a few unexpected grammatical errors and the plot was underwhelming. Were it not for miscommunications the last big peak could not have occurred. Lots of social activities with wordy descriptions. Acceptable character development and a positive ending, if a bit anticlimactic.
This story is filled with powerful men who have learned to lead wisely. March has been working hard but he is lonely. Colin has spent most of his life trying to hide from others and in some way himself. But together they can forge a bond of love that can overcome any crisis.
I gave this book a bit higher rating as I did a couple others not because I found them to be written so much better but due to the emotional content and the points being stressed that sometimes we are our worst enemy where acceptance and fitting in are concerned.
Nice story, and eventually there will be some sex. The three books in this series all follow the same path, which in the third one did become a bit repetitive.
I love this book so much. The author brings the words to life every time I read it. I've already read this book three times and each time I go back to it, I'm still smiling and enjoying the love.
Loved the concept, the plot was entertaining, Colin’s past was really grasping, absolutely loved the intimate scenes, the book presented some issues here and there, nothing major, I’ll tell at the spoilers section! It was amusing! Kudos to A.C. Katt!
Joel Leslie is one of my favourite narrators, I think he’s in my top three, unfortunately this perfomance didn’t represent him, the acting was not the usual committed, also the recording presented some technical problems. Besides that, I still believe he made the book better, the majority of the important scenes, he was fully engaged!
"Scarred Mate: Werewolves of Manhattan" by AC Katt

***3 STARS***
So, this may be the 3rd book of the Werewolves of Manhattan series, but this is the first book I've read so far. It was an okay read. It was kinda hard to get into because of the writing style. It was weird to me so it threw me off now and then.
The 3rd book is about Colin, who worked two jobs to support himself while going to school to get his masters in creative writing. His life was turned upside down at an early age with getting scarred on the face from a fire, and his parents divorcing because of it. Then his dad dies and his mom kills herself. Tragic. I felt for the guy. He felt rejected because of the reaction he gets from people when they see his face.
He meets Alpha werewolf Marc, when he delivered Chinese food to him, and Marc instantly knew that Colin was his mate. From there, Marc basically did everything he could to have Colin move in with him, which happened pretty fast. Too fast. Just because Colin's crappy apartment gets broken into and Marc pretty much bulldozed Colin into his home. Hey, Marc, maybe you could have gotten him into a fancy motel or something.
The plot didn't really interest me, and the writing style was just too distracting for me to enjoy the book. Not sure if I'll be reading 1 & 2. What saved it from being 2 stars was the book cover and how I'm such a sappy romantic. Marc was really sweet to Colin. Though I did think that without the mating pull, Marc wouldn't have cared much for the delivery boy.
The new mate learns about unconditional love, Sean uses The Voice in a showdown, Ian's cuteness shines forth and the Alpha of all Alphas trip to Costco is mentioned. This book was the best of the series.
I loved the plot line. A person with a physical scar who thinks that no one wants to be his friend because of it. Hiding who he is from others and, I think, from himself, somewhat. Being teased and humiliated as a child by a few people left emotional scars as well. This was a good idea, I believe, because a lot of people I think feel that way. Some people have some kind of emotional scar that they hide from others and even themselves. So I loved this idea of using that type of character as one of the stars of this book.
I loved it that the characters from the first and second books were involved in the plot line of this book. The two alpha mates befriended and took Colin under their wing teaching him what he needs to know.
The first two books have villains. It's interesting that the author chose not to have a villain but to just have a plain mean person. I loved that scene of the "showdown" with Lorraine and Sean using The Voice. That was a really great scene.
My only criticism for this book would be the very lengthy descriptions of the house and the protocols of the Loup Garou.
Overall, this book is a great improvement from the other two in the series. I would recommend this book and I would also recommend reading the first two books in the series to be able to understand everything.
I received this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.
So I want to start of this review by saying I really liked this book! So you get Collin who was injured in a fire when he was younger, now he has a scar on the side of his face. I have to say I really loved his character! Then you get Marc who calls in a order for Chinese food and hears Collin's voice over the phone and knows there is something special about him. The moment they lay eyes on each other Marc knows Collin is his mate. Now this can be read as a stand alone but for me at least I really wish I would have read the others first because I really wanted to know more about the other couple from the previous books which you do see a lot of in this book. I have to say I was not a huge fan of everyone giving Collin a hard time and accusing him of whining because he had only known Marc for a few days and was not ready to be claimed as his mate, Collin is human so of course he is not going to feel the pull as much as Marc. Talk about peer pressure there I could not blame him for being unsure so that part drove me a little nuts lol but other than that I really liked this book. You get your angst and sweet with this book which I loved how well everything worked together in this book. Also I loved the authors pretense of this story and the way the shifters were portrayed.
All together I really liked this book! I would recommend this book! I received this book free in exchange for an honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.
Scarred Mate (werewolves in manhattan #3) by AC Katt 3 stars M/M Shifter I was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
I want to start by saying that I have not read the previous stories. However, I didn't feel lost - the characters might have overlapped, but if they did, it was not in a way that left the reader wondering who they were.
This was a book about overcoming your own insecurities. You have Colin, who has a scarred appearance and can't seem to believe that people will see anything other than his scars. While he is a talented writer, he has to supplement his income before he really becomes more famous and while doing that, he meets his mate, Marc.
Marc was not your typical alpha male, at least for me. He was alpha and broody, but he was also so careful with Colin. He wanted his mate to feel the love and connection - to know that he didn't care about the scar.
The supporting characters in this story were fun. I liked the other mates - they seemed to create a great atmosphere. The antagonist is a terrible person, I wanted to hunt them down myself! To carry such animosity would be terrible!
So, while I enjoyed the story and the hunt for the antagonist, the story didn't quite speak to me like other shifter stories have. It was more of a sweet novel and I am not sure if that was the feeling that the author was going for.
Overall, it was a quick read that you could do in a day, but not a series that I would have to read.
This was book 3 in the " Werewolves of Manhattan" series. Colin Callahan was burned on his face at the age of 11 he ran into a fire after his dad. As a result this caused his parents to separate his mother blamed his father. After his father died in a fire his mother committed suicide so he is all alone working his way through college. On his last night delivering Chinese he meets Marc Thierry. Alpha Marc Thierry has waited years to meet his mate and when Colin's shows up with the food he has found him. Colin who is also an author of shifter romance novels is self conscious about the scare on his face he doesn't understand why Marc wants to date him. Marc is willing to do whatever he has to do to make Colin fall in love with him. I like how Sean and Ian from books one and two were their to help Colin and Armand a Remy were there to help Marc when he had a problem with one of the Alpha females in his pack. I really like this series. This book was well written like the other books in this series with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book.
