Softcover, tan illustrated covers, 239 pages, index, bibliography, endnotes, 9 b/w maps, 8 b/w photos, dozens of b/w illustrations in text. *** Originally published 1976. This edition 1985. Maps and photos by Fred R. Gowans. Illustrations by Stuart Heimdal. *** Tells of the early days of the Old West, when frontier fur trappers traded with Blackfoot, Crow, Flathead, Nez Perce, Shoshone and other Native American tribes.
A very dry but relatively thorough account of the where and when of the rendezvous of the Rocky Mountain fur traders in the early 19th century, with only a little insight into the why and the who - the men who were involved. I would recommend it only to die-hard history buffs, but even for them, I think Mr. Gowens sources would probably be more interesting.
