An indispensable resource for anyone interested in the fur trade era, especially re-enactors.

The first-hand accounts of those who were there offer insight (and humor) into the lives, frivolity, and misfortune of the beaver trappers.

A very dry but relatively thorough account of the where and when of the rendezvous of the Rocky Mountain fur traders in the early 19th century, with only a little insight into the why and the who - the men who were involved. I would recommend it only to die-hard history buffs, but even for them, I think Mr. Gowens sources would probably be more interesting.
