Twilight: Midnight Sunburn: A light parody of Midnight Sun

Rate this book
*** Please note that this is NOT Stephenie Meyer's Midnight Sun *** Midnight Sunburn is a light and reverent parody of Midnight Sun. It's Edward's version of the story, but with added gentle satire and wry humour. Midnight Sunburn shows the unfolding of Edward's fierce love for the mysteriously closed Bella Swan, explains how he overcomes his thirst for her blood, and reveals why he would rather watch her die than transform her into a vampire. It also divulges what Edward uses to paint on his abs, explains why he can’t use smartphones, and gives the reader a glimpse of Carlisle and Esme in WalMart. All author royalties from this book (and all other books by Anna Jones Buttimore) are donated to Heart Mothers (www.heartmothers.net), a charity which supports and cares for young girls rescued from sex trafficking in Cambodia. Reviews for a previous version of Midnight “I just needed closure. This book provided it delightfully.” “This is exactly what I've been craving as a fan. It's just spectacular.” “Surprisingly good book. Really good job.” “Wow! I would highly recommend to everyone who enjoys the Twilight series to read this.” “Finally someone kind enough to give us loyal fans our due. This book was well worth my time. Truly enjoyed this treat and will tell others about it.” “I have waited so long for this book. I didn't even know it existed. I thankfully stumbled across it yesterday and bought it. This book is EVERYTHING I wanted and then some.”

Pleased to read

There was a few typos in the book that is why I have given it 4 stars. The parody is lighter than most but it is still there. As close to Midnight Sun as it could be with out being from the direct author. Thank you for writing this. It helped ease my desire for more to Midnight Sun!

This is a mild parody in which I found that I kinda love it. The first half of the book is adorable. I really love Edward's snarky persona. However, I found that I didn't enjoy the rest of the book that much. It's full of copy right infringement. Dull.

Not bad at all!

I remember being a teenager and reading the first draft of midnight sun when Ms. Meyer gave it for the world to see. It was quite the event when she said she would never finish it when it somehow got leaked. Then BOOM! Here were are years later when the real Midnight Sun was released and now we have a PARODY of the book. What a wild ride!

It's exactly what you'd expect from a Twilight parody. Fun, humorous, and full of weird moments that break the fourth wall that somehow seem to work for this kind of thing.

Loses a lot points because of the many typos. That was kind of painful to read.

I have been waiting to read the rest of Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyers for years. I decided to read the parody and I was pleased with the book.

I really liked that the author kept true to the Twilight book, but then added her own twists to Edward's internal thoughts. The majority of the additions were so funny, poking fun at the book and movie, but not in a mean way.

It's definitely a good read for Twilight fans who want his side of the story.

I received this free book for an honest review.

awful book and definitely not even funny to be able to call it a parody. I'm blown away this book hasn't been in violation of copyright infringement. such poor taste.

5/5 stars

I was expecting a light, fun read and this book definitely delivered! The author did a wonderful job at following the original story, while still shifting the characters to be better developed than in the OG.
One of my absolute favorite parts of this book was the self-realization of Edward and his family. They, and Edward himself, address how creepy he is, how wrong some of the things he did were. I respected how the author went about doing as such so much.
The songs mentioned in the book were humorous.
There were things I think were discrepancies with the OG, such as some of the cannon vampire rules not being followed. But I found myself not caring, the book being enjoyable enough to overlook its flaws.
Definitely recommend. 10/10 will read again next year.

Favorite quote, "it almost didn’t matter that I had possibly exposed our family’s secret, put us all in terrible danger, and mussed up my hair."

I love parody stories. Even though this book has been made obsolete since the original author published Midnight Sun, this story is still interesting. Unbelievably, a lot of things in Midnight Sun are featured here even in areas that were never seen before. I like subtle differences and I like Edward having more than just his self gloom all the time. I do miss the interaction with other Cullen members, especially moments between Emmett and Edward but, this is an entertaining parody that will keep your interest piqued.

Would I recommend? Sure
Would I reread? Probably...had I found this prior to August 2020 my answer would be yes for sure
Book Hangover? In previous years...yes. Now...no. see my answer on rereading
Stand Alone or Series? Technically a stand alone by the author, but is great compared to original source material where Midnight Sun is a companion to the series.

i dont think anything could beat midnight sun but im always happy for an opportunity to go back to go back to twilight.

This made me appreciate the high quality of writing in stephenies actual midnight sun. I feel like she really conveys the mind of an 100 year old 17 year old boy.

I feel like i would have liked this a bit more if it was more parody. Even though i do have a few highlights for this it wasnt as full on as I thought. However when it was good it was sarcastic and broke the fourth wall in a funny way. It did get way less parody as it went on which is disappointing so I was a little bored at the end.

This probably would have scratched the itch if Midnight sun hadnt been released yet though.

Not bad

I read the first draft of med night son by Stephanie Meyer and it was excellent I loved it and I wish that she had finished the story . But as you know she came out with the excuse that she was offended by it being revealed personally I think she just didn't want to do the work. She let us down and she doesn't look good in my eyes . But us for this book it wasn't bad it had its ups I didn't like its humor . It was romantically decent but it didn't feel truly personal like if it was the real Edward.

it wasn't a waste of money

great book

I have read all the twilight saga, I found Edward’s side of the encounter very enjoyable.

My only disappointment is that after reading the original books it’s was like rewatching a movie.

Still very well done and enjoyed the book made me smile. Just disappointed the rest aren’t there. Same as twilight which to hear Jacob’s story with Nesse and maybe even some others. Do the Voltori come for them…
Oh well, still very enjoyable read even if you have read the original.

It was a little funny, less than what I had expected. I loved that the adjectives for his volvo increased each time she referenced it and they all began with the letter S. Edward was recognizing that he was a typical emo teenager, despite his actual age. Loved that she pointed out glaring issues (conflicting statements, historical inaccuracies, etc.). Would have enjoyed it more if it was even more filled with humor.

Honestly, it was cute. Not as funny as I expected it to be since it is labeled a parody, but humorous nonetheless. At the very least, Edward's inner monologue was entertaining. The occasional typos did get annoying, but there weren't so many that it distracted from the story being told.

Overall, an entertaining, light-hearted read. I probably wouldn't read it again, but it served its purpose at the time, so I don't regret picking it up at all.

Captivating view of Edward!

This is a gift to Twilight lovers. Looking into Edward's mind let's you see into everyone else's minds too. Too bad it is only Twilight and not all the books. But, this was well worth my time. The parody part is minimal and as a reader, you should be able to look past it, as I did. Tears and joy await! Good reading!

I don't know if it is because I read Mindnight Sun first, but I give this book 4 stars. It is everything I had anticipated the actual book to be. It is a parody, so there are some jokes and pokes at the series thrown in. And that is perfectly fine. But this book was able to get through Edward's perspective in 1/4th of the pages while still keeping momentum and being almost enjoyable to read.

I laughed the whole time

Thank you, for this story! I was so enthralled and laughed the whole time reading. It was just satirical enough to pay homage to the original. I love the little hobbies Edward picked up through the years. I am so glad to have read this story. Thank you again

I dnf’d because originally I thought I would enjoy the lightheartedness of a parody with Edward’s POV, but decided that I missed the seriousness and strangeness of the original. I might come back to this, but I might not. I didn’t like the way Edward actually seemed 17, maturity wise, where in the original he seems 102 stuck in a 17 year old’s body!

It’s a fun read I tandem with Twilight. Edward is funnier and less broody than Midnight Sun which I enjoyed.

Love the description of the Volvo every time!
We were all thinking it as we read Twilight! When we think sparkling, special, superb, stunning, shiny, spacious, speedy, sleek, sexy cars that with fit the Cullen family, we don’t think Volvo!

Not a parody

This is a rewrite of Twilight where the writers are twisted around as if from Edwards point of view. We do not learn anything new. Sometimes there is a snide remark but that does not a parody make. Skipped to the end after beginning of Chapter 3. No better.

I think I'm just not a book parody person. If you like twilight and parodies, I'm sure you'll love it. It's well written and I can see the humor. It's just not my thing, I suppose.

ABSOLUTE RUBBISH

How disappointing. I know it’s a parody but the whole aspect was so out of character. If the author is a Twilight fan, then maybe I have read the wrong books, repeatedly

This was okay, I wouldn't really say it was a parody though but it was funny to read a different version of Edward's pov. Obviously this probably would have been rated higher had I not already read Midnight Sun, although I found this to be better and less angsty!

Edward's interpretation of Belle

Nice outlook on Twilight's introspection of the central characterization of the beginning of a romantic relationship..
Good understanding of the male perspective even though it starts out slow (not a page turner) but does increase towards the end.

Meh. Funnier at the beginning. I loved how he kept adding adjectives to the list when he talked about his Volvo. The parody fizzled out half way thru and ended with what felt like just a summed up version of Twilight.

It will do

I cam tell it is a different author and that affected the story. It was slow to get into. Some of the things did make me laugh.

It was okay. Entertaining in that I’m oddly fond of twilight but a little off putting as well. Maybe because I read midnight sun first.

Started out very funny (I loved her references to Edward's Volvo), but it lost steam about mid-way through. Overall, it was a fun book.
