Poems celebrate the presence of angels from the Christian and Hebrew traditions, from the angel that appeared to the mystic Jacob Boehme asking for shoes to Gabriel fresh from the Annunciation

While the subject matter is angels, the style and topic of each poem is more emcompassing of all religions and not just Jewish/Christian belief. Some are quite lovely and some are quite funny.
Terrific, tender poems that though they claim to draw only from Judeo-Christian teachings, are surprisingly inclusive of many spiritual traditions. The illustrations are also beautiful, in a haunting, etheral way appropriate for the subject matter.
There were not a lot of stand out poems in this book, although I did enjoy the one about the matchmaker, and the fact that there was an entire poem about a puffball mushroom! There are a couple Christmas poems that were alright too.
I just could not get into this book. I did not particularly like the S Saelig Gallagher illustrations. It could have been me today. Maybe I should give this book another chance in the future.
This is a beautiful collection of poetry.. Some are calming and some are whimsical . I find myself going back to this collection if I need and rereading over and over, Especially at night before bed.
