Join the crew of the Effervescent Magnitude for a hilarious time-traveling space adventure the likes of which you've never seen!
Milo James Fowler is the cross-genre author of more than thirty books: space adventures, post-apocalyptic survival stories, mysteries, and westerns. A native San Diegan, he now makes his home in West Michigan with his wife and all four seasons. Some readers seem to enjoy the unique brand of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and humor found in his ever-growing body of work. Soli Deo gloria.
Hilarious, the way Captain Hammer is in "Dr. Horrible" - not many books make me laugh out loud, but this one did.
I'm no fan of "Guardians of the Galaxy" or the kind of humor that millions of Americans love, and this is right on the edge of being in that category, but, but, I *love* Captain Quasar! He's better than Hammer! He's so full of himself, and he can be such an idiot, yet he has a good heart, all in all.
My review of this novel will go live October 12, 2015, at www.PerihelionSF.com - follow Captain Quasar across the universe on his quest for the "If Only" elixer to right all his wrongs before everyone dies. That is, if it's possible to for anyone to right his wrongs. He'll have fun trying, anyway!
Not Kindle Unlimited, and since not showing 'bought' must have gotten from instafreebie instead of bookbub or freebooksy.
Assume this is somewhat in the space opera - humor genre, have been coming across more and more of these. This one has Captain Bartholomew Quasar, a crew, a ship named Effervescent Magnitude, space pirates, bandits, aliens, ghosts, identity crises, runaway hyper-speed train, computer virus, and of course a villain or more. Odd characters, odd situations, by an obviously odd writer, so what more could you really ask for.
Reminded me some of Hutchinson and Logson, and just had a somewhat scary thought...if those 3 came together to write a book....
Captain Bartholomew Quasar #1, #2, #3, Captain Bartholomew Quasar and the Space-Time Displacement Conundrum #1-80, Captain Bartholomew Quasar short stories
A space opera with a Firefly feel. I sometimes got disoriented in the timeline due to the time travel and forgot when I was! A fun, tongue-in-cheek, light read. I received a free copy of this book with no obligation.
Quite an entertaining read. While I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked this up, I certainly didn't expect this. Simultaneously humorous, profound, flippant and just bizarre.
Got a pre-publication copy for review, but all opinions are my own.
Captain Quasar is... well, take "Futurama"s Zapp Brannigan and a soupcon of "Galaxy Quest"s Cmdr. Taggart, mix well and turn up to 11.
Then put him and his very-long-suffering alien helmsman (think a furry, multi-armed Kip) into basically every trope of space opera since Doc Smith was a boy.
Time travel (LOTS of it), untested warp drives, good aliens, evil aliens, wormholes, super-science, dangerous regions of space, pew-pew lasers -- it's all here.
And it's all FUNNY. Don't blink because you might miss a joke, or an alternate universe, or... And don't read it too fast because you'll go "wait what?" and have to back up to see how they got there.
Recommended highly for some light reading to take your mind off the real world. Extra-recommended if you liked "Futurama" and "Galaxy Quest", or if you've just watched way too much "Star Trek" over the decades. Probably pretty funny even if you don't fit into those categories.
Copy received in consideration for an honest review.
What can be said about a Space Opera novel - (1) You need a drop dead handsome, self-absorbed, lady killer Captain who feels privileged and acts like it and chews the scenery into bits (2) An untried new technology ship (3) Disreputable space bars (4) Evil bad aliens (5) Evil good aliens (6) Disinterested superior super aliens (7) Aliens included in the human ship crew
I may have forgotten a few othe requirements for an over-the-top Space Opera story that is going from introspection by the protaganist (the Captain) about the meaning of life to hilarious space bar fights with drunken aliens.
Underlying this serio-comic opera (although it may take some looking) are deep questions about free-will and how our actions affect ourselves and others. The story line is interesting and the writing is engrossing.
I loved the series! The adventures of Quasar and his crew are scary, full of humour, emotional and daring. Great characters! Hank is awesome! I like it that there's not much of science tecnology explanations and more centered on the characters and their experiences. I hope Milo is going to continue with Captain B. Quasar's adventures! Please!
