Ann Covington is on top of the world. Not only is she a prominent attorney and lesbian romance writer, but she’s just learned that one of her books is going to be made into a movie. Now she can even add ‘screenwriter’ to her resume.
Life is about to change for Ann–especially when Casey Duncan, the actress who is going to play the lead in Ann’s movie, strolls into her life.
Ann and her partner of ten years have certainly been having a tough time of late…but will Casey’s presence turn their world upside down?
Beth Moore was born, raised and continues to reside in the San Joaquin Valley in California. She splits her time between working in the business world and sharing time with her family and friends. Her passions include softball (watching, she was never coordinated enough to play), football, gardening, and cozy nights by the fire. Writing has also become an important part of her life and she hopes to complete more books in the future.
Librarian note: There is more than one author with this name.
I had a few issues with this book. The first half was sweet, witnessing Casey and Ann fall in love was a cute read, you could feel their longing and love for each other which was great! The second half of the book... I ended up disliking Casey's character so much I wanted Ann with anyone but her! The second half of the book ruined it for me, it wasn't necessary to the plot or, in my opinion, true to the characters growth.
Beth Moore once again enthralled me with her tale of love, loyalty, desire, deep hurt. Ann Covington, author, lawyer, screenwriter has followed her dream and is given the opportunity to make one of her books into a movie. She couldn't be more excited except for the fact that she lives in San Francisco with her partner of 10 years, Kathy and the movie is to be made in Los Angeles. Also the actress she wants to play the lead in the movie has an agent that won't give in to the opportunity. So what does she do? She goes and meets the lovely Casey Duncan, actress, player, and all around bitch (at least according to her reputation). At first Casey blows Ann off but then she realizes that this is THE Ann Covington, one of her favorite authors and she jumps at the chance to be in the movie. While Ann is dealing with all the movie drama, she still has a life outside of L.A. unfortunately that life has been falling to pieces over the last several years but that is no excuse to be tempted by the beautiful and alluring Casey. As they spend more and more time together their attraction and frustration begins all the while Ann's partner Kathy is running hot and cold (mostly cold and mean) and Ann doesn't understand why. Is it her fault for following her dreams, has this been coming to a head for a long time, or is it just the attraction she feels for another woman that drives Ann to question her relationship. Everyone (except Ann) sees that Kathy is mean spirited, unsupportive, and distantly cold to Ann. Why can't Ann just see it and realize that just because you have been together for 10 years doesn't mean you should stay together, but Ann has flashes of the way it used to be and can't bring herself to give up on it so easily. All the while Casey is doing her best to be just a friend, even though they both know they want more. Casey is known for her one night stands and philandering ways, Ann is known for her loyalty, how can these two even think about doing what they want to do and have it last? Loyalty, trust, cheating, forgiveness are the keys to the story but which one will happen first and will it be too late for the rest? Great book from a great author!!
If you want a sweet and simple romance stop after page 170.... otherwise you're going to want to beat certain characters upside the head. I was rather shocked just by the level of animosity between Ann and Kathy, it was rather hard to read and still be okay with. Over all I like how Ann and Casey responded to each other but this was definitely not the best book ever... I would not buy this book if I knew just how much of a clusterfuck the whole story was...
