C-3PO and R2D2 must keep Darth Vader from discovering the Rebels' secret plans! Relive the classic scenes from A New Hope where the droids crash land on the desert planet of Tatooine and meet a young farmer named Luke.
My Review: Of course we had to pick up more Star Wars books for Munchkin. Unfortunately, this seems to be repeating the same story of Princess Leia giving the plans to R2D2 and the droids getting away. We have read the same story in a few other books just paraphrased differently. I also wasn't a huge fan of the illustration style, it looks almost Disney princess like with the cartoon style and big eyes. What was great about it was that the words and sentences were simple and they had a lot of sight words for young readers. The text was large and clear for them to focus on too, and Munchkin was able to read most of the book on his own.
I like this book. It's a really good book. And it's pretty easy to read if you're a starter for reading and it's a good book. I read this book on the same day as I read Ewoks Join the Fight and I really like this book. It's a Level 1 book. It's a Disney World of Reading book.
This beginning reader retells the beginning sequence of “Star Wars: A New Hope” in which the droids C3PO and R2D2 escape from Princess Leila’s captured starship with the Death Star plans.
My family is huge into Star Wars so we are excited to start my nephew's love for it early too. Only describes about the first 15 mins of the movie, but it's great start.
This is the story of the beginning of the Star Wars saga. In this story, we meet C-3PO, R2-D2, Princess Leia, and Darth Vader and discover that there is a secret battle plan. This is a Level One reader for the beginning reader. The digitally produced illustrations are reminiscent of the Star War series. This is a paperback edition so if you need to fill a temporary need for the series, this would be a suitable purchase. Otherwise, opt for the hardbound copy. Recommended. Grades Kindergarten through 2.
The illustrations are great. Bold colors and a graphic novel style.
The text as a story is meh, but rated regarding its appeal to my Star Wars loving kids: definitely five stars. Perfect for my beginning reader who's gaining confidence by reading some of the harder words that he knows from the Star Wars culture.
For a Star Wars fan learning to read this is a very good choice. This series is broken up into short books with a lot of word repetition and easier vocabulary than a lot of these readers tend to have.
This book is adapted wonderfully, it is simplified but not dumbed-down. It also has really cute illustrations. It passed my Stars Wars loving husband scrutiny and my 3 year old asks for it again and again!
A beginner book with repetition of sight words and basic outline of the starting scenes of "A New Hope". Favorite part was explanation of C-3PO and R2-D2
Yes! Escape from Darth Vader is the type of thing I want from these canon-included books designed for young readers. Sure, this is a simple retelling of the first 10 minutes of 1977's Star Wars, but it sports excellent new artwork from Stéphane Roux that makes the experience more enjoyable. I still don't know why I'm wasting my time reading these, but at least they're short.
(If you made me put a numerical value on this, I guess I would call it a 58 out of 100)
