Russel Williams is one of the most remarkable enlightened spiritual teachers of our time. After an early life of extreme hardship – leaving school at the age of 11, and becoming an orphan shortly afterwards – he underwent a spiritual awakening at the age of 29. Since the late 1950s, he has been a spiritual teacher, and is still actively teaching now, at the age of 94. Previously, Russel has avoided publicity and never published any writings or transcripts of his talks, preferring to work quietly with small groups. This is the first time any details of his teachings or of his life have appeared in print. This book is partly a record of his teachings, and partly also the story of his extraordinary life. Working with well-known spiritual author Steve Taylor – who has attended Russel’s meetings regularly since the 1990s – Russel has created a profound text which will surely become known as a classic of spiritual literature.
Fast, lean but very deep. Steve Taylor is someone I discovered on a podcast. I'm so glad I did. This ended leaving me wanting more. I'm not Buddhist but there is so much to meditate, ponder and wonder about here. I recommend it highly as an additional resource for your spiritual journey. I don't think life or life before/after death will fit in a one size fits all box. But, this left me wondering where Russel Williams stepped next once he stepped off this stage.
A small book so rich and delightful that I wished it would not end. The thoughts transcend mere words on the page and overflow with astonishing insight. It is a book to be read over and over with each reading offering insight of incredible magnitude. It is one of those books that just keeps on giving.
The chapters alternate between those recounting Mr. Williams' life and the odyssey that led to his spiritual development and those presenting a transcript of his teachings based on informal talks given to a gathering of spiritual seekers in Manchester, UK. Both aspects complement each other providing insight into a life lived on a level where few people have ever ventured.
Another favourite. An ordinary man, who lead an extraordinary life. Really good biography interwoven with his teachings. So powerful. A must for all spiritual seekers I would say!
