Speak #2

Say Nothing...

Rate this book
After years spent harboring a shameful secret, I finally felt...alive, reawakened and brave. Willing to break down my walls and let love in. Let him in.

We had conquered our pasts. The truth had set us free, and we were looking toward our future. Until a crazy twist of fate brought my worst nightmare back into my life.

The voice and soundtrack to every one of my haunting dreams now had a face. One he won't easily let me forget.

The hits Ben endured on the football field will be nothing compared to the devastating blow his heart will take if he finds out the whole truth. He knows the story, but he doesn't know the monster. Not like I do.

Just as the wounds of my past had begun to heal, he's come back to rip them wide open.

Maybe some things are better kept from those we love.
Maybe some secrets are never meant to be told.
Maybe it's better to Say Nothing...

I am a wife, and mother of two funny and crazy kids. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. When I’m not beautifying my clients as a stylist/makeup-artist at my day job you can find me reading, fangirling my favorite authors, or singing along to the radio. A year ago, I got the opportunity to read the debut novel of a then client, now friend, and something clicked. My “what the hell” attitude kicked in and a year later, here I am.

YES!!!!!!! Oh my goodness, yes!!! I have been waiting for this precious sequel since May!! Can you guys believe it?!
Oh boy, as soon as Roth sent me the file yesterday, I dropped everything I was doing and picked this up instead. I read this in one sitting since I couldn't tear my eyes away. My Thanksgiving was spent in this world and I regret nothing. The first book left in an explosive cliffhanger and I was going insane without this follow up. So, let me tell you why I love this series so much.
We get alternating POV's between Ari and Ben. (One of the best couples ever created if you ask me.) They are both Latinos and I LOVE that. I'm a Latina myself and it's so heartbreaking to see that not many books touch on that. But, that's where Roth comes in. Ah!!! I just love that I can understand the humor in Spanish AND English. Ari's family is hilarious and I enjoyed watching their interactions a lot. One of Ari's cousins reminded me so much of one of mine and I automatically loved her even more.
I also loved the lanterns in the beginning of each chapter! I kept smiling whenever I saw them since they were such a unique touch.
Due to the cliffhanger from the first book, I was a nervous mess throughout this entire thing. I felt sick to my stomach and just kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. I can't believe we get a third POV from time to time of a certain ... someone. I won't give anything away. You all need to read this to find out who I'm talking about. Just know, that I hate him.
Anyway, I was a sobbing mess by the end. That epilogue spoke so intensely to me and showed me a depth into Ben's and Ari's relationship that I will forever hope to experience myself. These two... I have no words for how happy they make me feel. They are one of my most favorite couples yet. The hardships they endured ... they made me sad. I completely hated seeing them fight and it broke my heart that there was such a big secret between them.
I am so, so happy to have finally read this and I can't wait to continue Vonne's story!!
This book can be triggering and it isn't intended for readers younger than 18 years old.

OMG... well Say Something ended with a mega intense cliffy!!! And Say Nothing starts off at exactly that scene... you know the one.. the scene where you had the breath knocked out of you!

We have Ari and Ben again, in this intensely dramatic and hot story where Ari's past has come front and center in her life and threatens the happiness she knows. She is passed out with Ben freaking out, knowing about Ari's trauma, and sooooooooo not aware that this nightmare is back! Ben loves Ari, and wants her to heal, and convinces her to go to counseling... but how do you heal when your living in fear? And to top it all off Ben gets whisked away across the pond for weeks... leaving Ari vulnerable, unprotected and hopeless. Can Ben save her this time when her creeper is back in the picture?

OMG.. Ms. Roth really sets it up to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout this book. She takes your breath away in fear in one scene, only to take it away again in the holy hotness that is Ben.... Mad skills this specimen has.. let me tell you! Sort of started rooting for the creeper to get Ari out of the way so I can have Ben all to myself.. oh yeah.. I went there...lol

Seriously this story went from great to OMG wow! You need to read it immediately!

Oh wow!!! Whoooo Hooooo! Thank you T.A. I was waiting for this one to come out so I re-read the 1st one so I could be caught up. I love how T.A writes , her writing is a breath of fresh air and book 2 doesn't disappoint. This book was another page turner for me and had to finish it because I needed and wanted more of Ben and Ari. I love their connection and passion for one another. Ari's character remains strong that sometimes I wanted to choke her. I was scream at my phone (kindle app)" SAY SOMETHING...PLEASE" I need more!!!!
Thank you T.A for ending my 2015 reading year with a bang!!!

I don’t even know where to start with this book! Romantic Suspense has quickly become a favourite sub-genre of mine and this story was done quite well. When I first picked up this series I wasn’t expecting a whole lot but am so happy that I started it. This series starts out light, flirty and a little cheesy, then progresses into darker emotions and a grittier, harder read. This book is not easy to read, and it does contain triggers which could be an issue for some. It’s not light and funny, so if that’s what you’re looking for then this is not the book for you. For readers who enjoy suspense novels and drama, this will be up your alley!

HOLY SMOKES TA ROTH!! I LOVE YOUR WRITING STYLE!
This was a great follow up read to Book 1! Suspense, Drama, love, and Ben is so HOT!!! This book is fiction, a great read, and a good way to take my mind off of my everyday troubles. Just what I'm looking for in a read. Great love story, the sex scenes are steamy, and a villian....AMOS!!! Even though I'm not supposed to.....I LOVE AMOS!!! Please give his twisted character his own book, pretty please!
Waiting patiently for the follow up

I’ve got to confess that between my blog partner Michelle and myself, I’m definitely the less adventurous when it comes to giving new authors a try. I tend to stick to the safer route, continuously picking up books written by beloved, “go to” authors who I know would steer me no wrong. However, there are those times that I’ll read a synopsis, or see an eye catching book cover, or heck even based off of reviews from respected reviewers that I’d give new authors a chance. Say Something by TA Roth (book 1 in the Speak series) was one of those rare times a few months ago. The cover and the synopsis had me hooked and I took a dive, head first and got lost in Ari and Ben. From the very start of the book, I just knew that I’d hit the jackpot and again I confess, the feeling that overtakes me is so much greater when I read an amazing story from a first time author because I feel like I’ve truly struck gold and with TA Roth, I’d found the mama-jamma of a gold mine! So you could imagine just how ridiculously excited I was for the follow-up book, Say Nothing after the jaw dropping conclusion in Say Something. I waited for what seemed like a ruthless amount of time to finally be able to pick up my jaw off the ground and find out just what would play out for Ari and Ben and I’m sure my fellow literary lovers would agree that there is no worse feeling of anguish than when a follow-up book to a stellar freshman book doesn’t quite meet your expectations. This is where I’m at with Say Nothing. I’m still in a bit of denial and in a big way, still mourning the direction that this book took.

In Say Something, what I had loved the most was the heated, intense chemistry between Ari and Ben. These two took “vanilla” into another level. I was flushed during the entire time I read the book. I couldn’t resist the romance that ignited between them and I feel like all of this was lost in Say Nothing. I didn’t feel the same intensity between them. I felt like they weren’t at all on the same wavelength, many times arguing because they didn’t understand what the other was feeling or what the other was going through. Even the intimacy between them felt forced, almost sad at times. I couldn’t believe how way off the mark Ben was when it came to Ari… I mean, it was pretty obvious what was causing her to shut down based on the pattern of events. For two people who were so in tune with one another in the first book, they were in completely different pages in this book. The broken connection between the two of them was my biggest regret. I was craving it, page after page and goodness, I was crying over it like someone spilled the last glass of my most favorite wine. I didn’t want to accept it even though it was unfolding right in front of me.

I also felt like TA incorporated Vonne’s and Eli’s story into this book way too much; almost setting up her readers for the next book in the series (which I am still very much looking forward to) but instead it took away so much from Ben and Ari. Say Nothing is their book and their book alone and it didn’t feel that way. I wanted to see how much these two grew together while fighting such a horrid monster for Ari. We don’t get that. Ari battled the demons on her own which is nothing to be shameful about because heck yeah—she became her very own heroine. But I would have loved for Ben to have been right there with her too.

The best part about this follow up; as twisted as it may sound was Amos. I loved that TA Roth incorporated his POV in this book because it added a darker element. His obsession with Ari and his contorted belief that he belonged to her was off the chain creepy and we see it firsthand. Amos added fire to this story. The emotions that ran through his veins, though sick and wretched, was totally something that Say Nothing needed. It got my heart beating wildly, my imagination going crazy thinking of what his next move would be. He brought life to this story and this is why I wish that we got a little more of Amos… What led to his obsession for Ari specifically? What was so special about Ari that he couldn’t move past such an unhealthy need to make her his. I would have liked to see a huge “blow up” in the end after Amos went through such elaborate, drawn out plans for years but the ending was just way too abrupt for my liking. It was all a blur and then it was over. I mean, all that build up deserved something as jaw dropping as the end of the first book.

Say Something is a definite top 2015 read for me and you guys… you guys… You can’t imagine the anticipation I felt towards Say Nothing so I’m sure you can imagine how difficult it was for me to write this review. However, if you’d asked me if I’d ever pick up another book from this author? YES! In a heartbeat, without a doubt, YES, I most definitely would. Her writing style has an ease about it and the dialogue between her characters could be something you would have with a friend of your own. The words and the sentences flow easily; something that would have you turning the pages and not realizing you were nearing the end of the book. So while I did think that quite a bit was taken away from Ben and Ari, I still can’t wait for Vonne’s and Eli’s story as TA Roth had set them up extremely well in this book.

I‘d like to end this review on something positive because honestly, I am in love with Ben Rodriguez and Arely Munoz. It’s one of my favorite quotes … Something that Ari and Ben repeat to one another in both books that just melts my heart and my panties right along with it.

“”Mine,” he whispers across my lips. “Always yours.” I pant back

What great follow-up!!!

I was excited to read book 2 in this series to find out where things between Ari and Ben would be and it was steamy hot and at times shaky because of "IT" I'm so happy that ari went to counseling and that she did get to speak her truth. Towards the ending I was scared for Ben and Ari but that epilogue was everything. Book 3 where are you!!!

Great read. I will admit Ari drove me crazy towards the end. I think she could have avoided some of her issues towards the end if she would have just been truthful with Ben. Still a good read and I would recommend to others.

I received this free eARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

So I got both novels in this series from NetGalley, which I'm very grateful for, and I've enjoyed them both. I've found that I really don't like Ari though... I know she's been through a traumatic experience and she just wants to forget about it, but when it is staring right back at her, I feel like that is a great time to finally fess up to what happened so many years ago and resolve the terrible issue.

Instead, she decides to keep the damn secret to herself, which is tearing her apart and making her sick, shaky, and jumpy, let alone putting a strain on her relationship with Ben. A guy who is madly in love with her and would never want her to feel the way she's feeling. AND ARI KNOWS THIS!!!!!!! So why in God's green earth would she decide to keep quiet? I will never understand. Sure, be quiet, but also fight back, don't cower into a corner and be scared all of your life!

Okay, we've established that I can't talk about Ari without getting angry, so let's move on. When I read the first novel, I was "meh" about it. Wasn't sure if I was going to read the second novel. Then I found it on NetGalley, sent a request for shits and giggles, and was accepted for the copy. So yeah, I read it. I'm glad I did because the story is now at rest with me, but I wouldn't have died if I didn't get the novel. It was just nice to have the end of their story wrapped up. But it was a long and bumpy ride.

I love Ben. He is so into Ari it's sickening to watch as an outside, but would be an amazing feeling to feel if it was directed toward myself. He is always thrown with his feelings and he's always thinking about other people rather than himself. And he has sacrificed so much to help others, which is an admirable trait to have.

I think this will be a hit or miss for most readers. Depends on how they feel about Ari's decisions, in the end. I liked it, but I needed Ari to be more of a fighter than a flighter, but in the end it was a good series. Glad I got to read it and see how the ending was wrapped up.

⭐ ⭐ Provided by Author via Xpresso Book Tours in Exchange for an Honest Review ⭐ ⭐

Judging a Book by it's Cover:
Multiple POVs, each clearly defined and easy to follow.
The cover, once again, chooses a very random minuscule part of the story to represent the book, although this particular scene is much more significant that that of the first book.
Looking Deeper:
SAY NOTHING picks up right where SAY NOTHING left off. If reading the books back to back like I did, it'll have had a continuation of fluidity that felt seamless. I've already sung praises of just how much I enjoyed the smart and independent lead characters that were not afraid to show a bit of snark and sass. Ben and Ari's chemistry was white-hot explosive. The secondary characters added an amazing amount of dynamics to the plot, there was a deeper and darker level to this book that was not quite there yet in the first book. NOTE: There is a portion of this story that Ben and Ari are apart, however it does NOT take away from the plot nor their interactions. There were a few conflicts present throughout the book and they were all resolved in a timely manner. There was some minor predictability, but it did not take away from the story. The conclusion was solid and satisfying; it even offered a glimpse into a potential future book as we were given an a glimpse into a secondary character's internal struggles and there was a mention of an upcoming event.
Overall, I am truly amazed with this duet and find it hard to believe that this duet was a debut project from the author. I'd highly recommend this two-book set to anyone who wants to read a new author in the New Adult Romance world.
New Adult category with a dose of suspense / thriller plot, a soccer star, a football star, and a rock star and some crazy friends and family.

**I received a copy of this book from Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

To say I was eager to read this book is an understatement. Given the ending of Say Something..., I NEEDED this book ASAP.

Watching Ari struggle with everything that is thrown her way was super tough. And watching Ben be oblivious to it all was even harder. Because I just love these two together.

The story here shifts to Ben and Ari as individuals, trying to find out what they want in life and how their relationship works into it. I appreciated how realistic these struggles were. The work-life balance emphasized here was great to see.

I will admit I was slightly disappointed in how rushed the ending felt. I really wanted what happened to be teased out a little more. There was great material to work with and it just didn't get played to its full advantage.

We start this book off 15 years in the past, from Amos' point of view. We see how he met Ari. Then we come back to the present with Ben trying to wake Ari up from her faint. When Ari is stressed, she has nightmares about her piano teacher. They appear to have come back in full force after seeing Ben's uncle. He has been suggesting gently for some time for her to see a therapist. She finally agrees to do so after this last episode. Will she tell Ben about his Uncle? Will she talk to the therapist about what has happened? What will happen if she does? Ben gets asked to fill in on an internship in London for 4 weeks, then after 2, they ask him to stay another 6. What does he decide to do? When he is in the airport, finally coming home, he sees pictures of Ari with her ex-boyfriend from HS all over the internet. What happens when he calls her and confronts her about it? When he finally lands and Ubers back to his grandmother's house, he finds some stuff out that Ari had been hiding from him, and more importantly that his Uncle had been hiding from him. What happens when he goes back to Ari's apartment that he shares with her? What does he find happening there? What happens to him? This book gets very tense and thrillerish when Ben gets home, also it is suspenseful. It does end on an HEA, I will say that much, and I hope that there will be another book in the near future for this with Vonne and Eli's stories!

Wow. I consider myself lucky enough that I was able to read the first novel in this series “Say Something”. Lately I find it hard to stay awake long enough to read. I often fall asleep and have my phone smack me in the face or wake to it crashing on the floor. With a full time job and family I have been utterly exhausted. This series, this book kept me up until all hours of the night. I NEEDED to finish it. I needed Ben. Everything about him was irresistible.

Demons are a giant theme in this series, in the first novel we caught glimpses of Ari’s but I think it was mostly Ben’s past that haunted their relationship. In Say Nothing we are thrown right into the depths of Aris past causing turmoil for herself and for Ben. The fear and trepidation that grips her through this novel is palpable. Her struggles with herself have an effect on all of her relationships including her relationship with Ben. I found myself angry with her at one moment and crying with her at the next.

"He’s bold in his questioning and although I have every right to show him disrespect, I don’t want any trouble."

That’s not to say there isn’t some steamy stuff happening. I mean really, have you pictured Ben???? Holy smokes that man has moves. Seriously. Okay and his concern for Ari’s mental health and his jealousy issues were pretty hot too

Ari is involved with a great guy, Ben, the first serious relationship she's had, and she's terrified her horrible secret will hurt him. He's been through so much and she can't bear the thought of adding to his grief. Ben just finished college, has a great internship for the summer before he starts law school, and is crazy about Ari. Will keeping the secret destroy the relationship she wants, before she's ready to share it?
This is the second book in the Speak Series and you should definitely read the first book first--this wouldn't work well as a stand alone. I was torn between whether to give this 3 or 4 stars because I feel the story should've been one book and not dragged out so much. Then, after dragging it out, the end was rushed. With that said, I did really enjoy the book. The characters are engaging and I was interested from beginning to end. I'm really impressed that this book and the one before it are the first this author has written. I never would've guessed she hasn't written before.

God, words cannot explain how much I loved this boo and the series in general. When I first read Say Something, I could not put it down. Regardless if I have early shifts, it was just a beautifully written book. It brushes on sensitive topics and it was hard not to love this amazing sequel.

I love books that I can easily devour because it is just that great.

This was the first time that I read T.A. Roth but I hope that she continues more stories like these. While it made me tense up and shake for Ari, I couldn't help but fall in love with her even more. Strong, smart, and beautiful are three things that I would like to describe her as.

She doesn't need a man to define her but she lets in Ben because he fights for her everything. Attention, love, and family. It is hard to find the one person that truly worth every single part of body, soul, and mind.

Fall in love with Say Something and Say Nothing as well as T.A. Roth.

This receives a high 5 out of 5 stars from Amy's Review Obsession.

Say Nothing is the second and final book in The Speak Series. The first book Say Something does need to be read first as this is not a standalone. I would give this book a 4.5 stars and highly recommend to others.

This story wove a beautiful love story in the first book but also showed a deep and painful past for Ari, but by the end of the first book you get the feeling they are moving on with there lives finally and then bam! The past has a way of creeping back in and you find that your demons are closer than you had thought.. what will happen when the truth is finally revealed to all?? Will Ben ultimately be there to save Ari in the end from the destruction of her past? Or will it be too late?

This last book will tie everything up and make you want more from these characters. I absolutely loved this story and can't wait for more from this author in the future. Thanks for a beautifully well written romance! Get to one clicking!

This book…I think I’m still trying to recover. Say Nothing – Book 2 of the Speak Series by TA Roth is a must read, but be aware that you have to read book one first. This book cannot be read alone. That said, prepare yourself.

In the first book we learned of Ari’s past, but in book 2, the past comes back to haunt her. Say Nothing is a little on the darker side, however, it needed to be. Ari had hoped to hide from the past, or leave it in the past, if only certain people would have stayed there. What is going to happen to her? What about Ben? Will he walk away when he learns everything, or will he fight to stay at her side?

Say Nothing was amazing! Well written and the characters become a part of you. You want to know what happens next and are hesitant to put the book down. A must read and I give it 4.5 stars!!

A beautifully written story about love, passion and secrets.
This was a fitting conclusion for Ari and Ben's story.
Its a story that showed me that people are more resilient than you might expect.
Ari has a secret and she is convinced that it will all end her and Ben's relationship. She does not want Ben hurt and the whole lies is killing her.
However, when the past collides with their future Ben shows he is up to the task and his love for Ari blows the hurt away. Yes, its quite the gritty tale and plenty of emotions are high in the story, but I found myself engaged in the read.
Together Ari and Ben make a fabulous couple.

Well done T A and many thanks for this opportunity x

Later peeps xx

This is the follow-up to Say Something. I really enjoyed this book. Despite being a sequel, the story/ problem was a bit separate from its previous book, which gave it a new feel. That was something I liked, considering it drives me crazy when a plot is dragged on for two (or three, sometimes) books but could have been wrapped up in one longer book.

This is a book I will reread, and I highly recommend it (but you have to read Say Somethibg first).

Great Conclusion

This was a satisfying conclusion to the series. I honestly couldn't stop reading! I had to know if Ari would tell Ben the truth, what Amos would pull, and that ending...wow! I've been looking forward to this since the end of the first book, and it didn't disappoint. Look forward to reading more from T.A. in the future

I didn't enjoy this as much as the first, but it was still likable. I felt like it was rather dragged out and the two books probably could have been combined into one. I do like Vonne so I may read her book when it comes out later this year.

Say Nothing is a suspenseful conclusion to Ben and Ari's story. I loved everything about it except for having to read Amos' POV. I honestly felt creeped out having to get into his head.

More to come...

Finally the continuation of Ari and Ben, after being left with a cliffy. It's dual POV which I love. Ari and Ben have a sweet, romantic love but Ari has a past that may or may not break them, can they be strong enough, can Ben be strong enough for the both of them? This was a great story . I have to admit I didn't like this as much as the first book.

I loved the story and the characters but the ending ruined it for me. It was far too short and rushed. I wanted to read about the aftermath and there was nothing except for the epilogue.

I'm really hoping there is a third book with Vonne and Eli to redeem this ending.

I'm glad I didn't let the fact that I didn't care for the first book keep me away from the second. This one was MUCH better. A better plot..and not as much smut. I definitely enjoyed it a lot more, unfortunately you need to read the first to understand this one.

I loved the conclusion to Ari and Ben's story! Loved having POV's from Ari, Ben and A. Cannot wait for Say Anything, a story on Vonne and Eli, to release.
