Magical Children

The Strongest Girl in the World

Rate this book
Josie Jenkins, aged eight and three quarters, can do a few tricks, but she astonishes herself and everyone else when she finds she can lift a table, a car and even a bus with no effort at all. Josie becomes famous, and Mr Two Suit sweeps in with a contract and swoops the whole family off to New York. How Josie copes with fame and fortune, and with the loss of it when she wakes up one day to find she can't do her trick any more, makes a story of enormous charm, with a tiny, modest and sensible heroine you have to cheer for. Entrancing drawings on every page make this a really special book.

AKA Wray Delaney

Sally Gardner grew up and still lives in London. Being dyslexic, she did not learn to read or write until she was fourteen and had been thrown out of several schools, labeled unteachable, and sent to a school for maladjusted children. Despite this, she gained a degree with highest honors at a leading London art college, followed by a scholarship to a theater school, and then went on to become a very successful costume designer, working on some notable productions.

After the births of twin daughters and a son, she started first to illustrate and then to write picture books and chapter books, usually with fairytale- or otherwise magical subject matter. She has been called 'an idiosyncratic genius' by London’s Sunday Times.

Kindlasti üks uusi lemmikuid. Peale ilmselge imelise sisu, kus iga peatükk on muhelemapanev, lisasid ohtrad illustratsioonid vahvust veelgi juurde.
Siinkohal tunnustan väga Aire Kivistikku, kes teose eesti keelde tõlkis. Just tema teistsugune lähenemine, kus kasutatakse julgelt kolmeosalisi (või pikemaid) liitsõnu. Annab rohkem iseloomu.

Mu lemmikkohad on:

Sooviks kindlasti lugeda sama sarja teisi teoseid. Soovitan soojalt ka teistelegi!!!!

A nice book. What! a! power! of Josie. Foolish Mr Two Suit locking the two children Louis and Josie in the hotel room. There was even power to take a three floor building. She even took a horse!!!!

There is a girl whose name is Jossie. She has a very powerful ability. She could lift up a chair and balance with a finger. One day, she shows her ability to other people and her family. Then she becomes famous by amazing power. When Stanley Arnold, the strongest man in Britain, gets angry and starts a strength competition between him and Jossie. Finally, Jossie defeats Stanley Arnold. The biggest TV show owner casts Jossie to his TV show which is about lifting heavy things. However, Jossie feels that she doesn’t want to be in TV show. Suddenly, she loses powerful ability and she tries to escape with her brother. But the owner doesn’t allow her to leave. Then Stanley Arnold comes to help Jossie. In the end, Jossie lives with her family as normal as other people do. This story taught me family and friends are very important.

I love this book.It was one of the first books I read when I was a kid, and it definetly was the one I loved most, by far.I always read it when people told me not to behave in certain ways, because it wasn't girly like.I read it when I was told I was different because I liked to play sports, that where suppose to be played by boys, and not wear dresses. It made me feel okay with myself, because by nature girls are suppose to be weaker than men, but in this book it wasn't that way.I liked how different it was and how special it made me feel.

The stories always focus on a child with magical powers. I particularly like it because it was the first Sally Gardner book I read. I suggest reading them all and buying the collection pack. I recommend these for ages 5+. The books are not scary and the text is easy to read and a good introduction to chapter books.

Picked this book for my daughter seeing the title of this book. Definitely a great book breaking stereotype - where strength is tied as the quality of opposite gender. Above all, I liked how Josie's brother stood on her side when adversity stuck them
