Isabelle Cooper's in big, big trouble. Her flower shop? Well, it was just bought by the man she’s had a crush on forever. Her new boss, Devon Donovan, is a tall glass of melt-in-your-mouth hotness. The problem? Devon is definitely not interested in love. No ifs, ands, or buds about it.
Devon knows Isabelle has been crushing on him since college, but buying her business shouldn’t be a problem. Not only is she his employee, but as the eldest Donovan brother, he’s too busy protecting the family fortune for romance. But tomboy “Izzy” is all grown up now. And he’s finding it impossible to resist her, no matter how hard he tries...
Good morning! It's a beautiful sunny beginning to the day here in Western, Pennsylvania. I'm working on my 75th book. 75th! I'm very excited about that.
I've written some fun things ... those are the Silhouette Romance titles. I especially liked SNOWBOUND BABY which was book 3 of the Bryant Baby Bonanza series which also included BABY BEFORE BUSINESS and PRINCE BABY. But my favorites for Silhouette where the books of the Brewster Baby Boom series THE BABY BEQUEST, BRINGING UP BABIES and OH, BABIES! Where three bachelors inherit triplets. Those were fun to write. I go back every now and again and read them myself for a laugh!
My Harlequins are a little (sometimes a lot) more serious than my Silhouettes, but I always deliver a heart warming story that reminds readers that family and love go hand in hand.
You'll especially see that in FALLING FOR THE PREGNANT HEIRESS where Trent Sigmund decides to help his best friend Seth's baby sister Sabrina McCallan hunt down her on-again/off-again boyfriend, Pierre, to tell him he's about to be a father. Trent tries not to fall. So does Sabrina. Who knew real love had been in their backyard all along.
Sexy or sweet, funny or sad, my characters make some serious lemonade out of their lemons! :)
Because that's how I see life. I have three kids...one of whom has epilepsy. Raising him taught me (and my husband and our other two kids) that sometimes a situation that seems bad can have its blessings.
Devon Donovan has been the starring attraction in Isabelle Cooper's dreams for years, only problem is that he is not interested in anything resembling a relationship. So, when the hunky lawyer purchases her family's flower shop, and he offers her a job, she jumps at the chance and is delighted to be working in close proximity with him. She figures now maybe she'll be able to catch his eye...
Devon Donovan keeps himself busy enough with work to never have time for dating, he is self proclaimed workaholic, with major relationship fears. He has known all along that Isabelle has had a crush on him, and has always played it off as nothing but a harmless crush, so when he offers her a job he figures it'll be no big deal being her boss, and not crossing any lines. Only problem is the tomboy he once knew has grown into quite a beautiful and alluring woman, and she is not afraid of crossing any lines to get what she wants...
This was a very entertaining first read for me, the story line grabbed my attention right from the start and had me laughing and smiling the whole way through. Isabelle and Devon had undeniable chemistry right from the start, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading their story, an also getting glimpses into the lives of the other family members. With this being the third installment in the series I was concerned I'd have trouble following along, since I haven't read the other installments, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that wasn't the case at all, if anything it made me want to make a return visit to the series!!
If you like second chance romance stories, this is definitely one you should add to your reading list, it will leave you with a happy heart and a smile on your face!

Aww!! This book was really cute and sweet and funny and light-hearted! I absolutely loved it! I expected something completely different and I don’t know if its because it is an adult novel or its about falling for your boss…but I thought this was going to be an intense read. But that was not the case. It was very enjoyable and easy to read and I definitely recommend it!
This book is about Izzy, a twenty-something who owns a flower shop (a flower shop, really?) and its been recently bought by Devon Donovan, a long-time crush. The whole situation gets a little hilarious and I assure you, there was no unwanted drama and stupidity going on.
The main characters are adults and they acted like it! That was a relief after that nightmare with Priya In Heels. *shudders*. I love that they hashed things out properly instead of getting ahead of themselves and making regrettable decisions. So…yeah, there was no frustrating “dancing around the lines” or “beating around the bush” business. I loved the writing, which just flowed nicely and the funny/cutesey moments were great without being too cheesy. This author has many more books so maybe I should check them out!
I liked Izzy right from the start. She's smart and stands up for herself. I love that she worked hard for her MBA and how she loves working with flowers. But then Devon hires her for work directly with him and she turns stupid. All she can think about is him and it sort of got annoying. There were a few moments of clarity and vague disapproval, but she mostly went along with whatever Devon wanted.
Devon had promise. I loved that he was stubborn and enjoyed pressing her buttons. I didn't love how he was constantly pushing for "an affair". When she tells him no, he flat out tells her that he'll make her change her mind and do what he wants.
The secondary characters were fun. I liked the family and I'm mildly interested in the companion books. Overall, I did keep reading it for the sweet moments that were few and far between, but it definitely didn't meet my expectations.
**Huge thanks to Entangled/Bliss and NetGalley for providing the arc in exchange for an honest review**
I received this book as an ARC from Entangled Publishing via NetGalley and in return I will give my honest review. Such a charming adorable book! I read this in one sitting. I loved all the characters in the book. I absolutely love the Donovan family!!! Though I did not read the first two books I feel like this was just as well as a stand alone. Devon is such a hunky male lead. And Isabelle is such a smart, outspoken and witty female lead. I thought at first I was going to be quite irritated at how much she put into all of it but it grew on me. And of course I absolutely loved the "YouTube" part. I was in pins and needles the whole book. So worried about Isabelle getting her heart broke. Such a good story. If you are looking for a charming, funny, hunky (as in all the Donovan brothers), and the aftermath of abusive relationship having a HEA then this is the book for you!!
Isabelle Cooper has worked in her family's flower shop forever, even though she now has an MBA. And she always assumed she'd take over the shop someday -- until her parents decide to retire and sell the shop to the Donovan family. Yikes, now her boss will be gorgeous, brooding Devon Donovan, the guy she's had a secret crush on forever. Or maybe not so secret, if Devon remembers how mortified she was when he'd just returned from a tour in Afghanistan and he turned down her invitation to her high school prom.
Devon knows about Izzy's degree and he has plans for her to work with him on the family investments rather than the flower shop, that is until he sees her for the first time in years. She's beautiful and all grown up now and he's rethinking whether it's a good idea for them to work together so closely. He'd never take advantage of an employee, but Izzy or Belle as she haughtily says she wants to be called, is tempting enough to make him want to break his own rule.
It's all Izzy can do not to drool after Devon cause he's even more gorgeous than she remembers. And when her friends give her some clothes and makeup tips, Devon is drooling a little himself! Beauty and brains is a combination he may not be able to resist.
There's a darker and interesting backstory about the Donovan family and their abusive father. Being the oldest son, Devon tried to help his mother and protect his young brothers from their father's wrath, and, of course, his ideas about love and relationships were shaped by his ugly childhood. Izzy, on the other hand, is an only child with a loving, very close knit family.
Charming, thoughtful, sexy and entertaining; a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Devon Donovan has always been Izzy's dream man, but that crush-fuelled fantasy becomes something deeper when she starts out being an employee who actually gets under his skin as the weeks go on. There's family drama, a secret affair and differing expectations that bring it all to a head when one party (somehow it's mostly confined to the pesky females who don't understand 'it's just sex') starts to think there's something more. The scripted rom-com trundles as scripted: said woman leaves, and the man in question gets his head screwed on right by his friends/family, gets a miraculous change of heart regarding his eternal bachelorhood, and finally goes in search of a grand gesture to win her back. Never once did I feel as though Izzy had the real Devon in her sights; likewise, I never felt that Devon had risen above that controlling behaviour to realise that he'd been (un)consciously manipulating circumstances and people around him despite the cringe-worthy and sappy last chapter.
I'm not entirely sure what to say about a story that I would probably forget by the time the day is done. The narrative coasted along with some angst but without the extreme highs and lows of emotions that typically come with unrequited love stories, carried by characters that didn't seem all that memorable.
Loved Isabelle and Devon. She was hard working, funny, smart. I really wanted to be her friend and hang out, lol. She took crap from no one, and even though she was a little lost in her life, in the end when she figured out what and who she wanted, she went for it and demanded it.
Devon was a great character too, super committed to his family, so much so, that he missed out on living his own life. I loved his loyalty to those he loved, and I also loved his softer side. He really could be quite the softy. :-) Which was great after everything he went through growing up.
This was a great pairing, just what the other needed. Loved reading them and I was rooting for them the whole time.
From the looks of it, there might be a little more of this series, with a new Donovan sibling and Barbara Beth? Lol, that should be fun. ;-)
*Thank you to Entangled Publishing for providing an ARC in exchange of my honest opinion*
He started to say, “I have a lot of work—” just as Izzy walked in the front door, and his mouth fell open. Her hair had been swept up on one side, pinned back by a pink flower. Nothing too big. Just the right size to look kind of sexy. His gaze skimmed down over a pink sparkly dress that stopped mid-thigh—and she had the legs for it. Now, not only was he dealing with the fact that she wasn’t a kid anymore, he was seeing her as a gorgeous, sexy woman. It was as if someone had waved a magic wand and she’d changed overnight.
I needed just this. Head Over Heels for the Boss was the perfect book for the right moment. I adored getting to know Isabelle and Devon and found myself enjoying way too much their flirting and falling-in-love journey. All the Donovan guys /so nice to read about them and their lovely better halves. It was such a nice and light romance to read!
Oh those Donavan brothers... the last book in the series is Devon.I loved this book!!! Probably a good thing. This book is set after his mother inherits a fortune and Devon is handling the family business, the abusive father is long gone, but the scars he left behind on Devon remain and along with his brothers and Mom they meet once a week to run through business but since both Cade and Finn are married now and Mom is somewhat scarce at times, Devon's workaholic behavior works right into the story. Isabelle has been running his parents flower shop for a few years now after getting her MBA and comes home to a surprise from her parents that they've sold the shop to the Donavan's so they can retire somewhere warm and play golf. They've made a clause in the contract that Izzy is to retained as an employee. Izzy, as she's been known since childhood and now kind of shrinks from the name, doesn't think she'll ever be seen as an adult is flipping her lid having had a crush on the elder Donavan since high school. In the same breath her parents tell her she's got a meeting with Devon at their home/office where he lives and works. So off she goes. She doesn't want this, but she understands her parents need to scale back. And she especially doesn't want to be around Devon. Their first meeting goes a bit bumpy. Devon wants to train her to work with him, after reviewing her college transcripts and seeing her potential he wants to use her talents to help him with what he does, as well as the flower shop. She tells him she's got x number of weddings coming up, several funerals etc and she's the only designer. There are only 5,000 people in the town. So Izzy is back and forth between the flower shop and his office and her parents have flown the coop for Myrtle Beach. Devon makes it clear that he doesn't do anything other than sex. He offers her an affair, but on his terms, his rules, his everything. She says no thanks. They have great chemistry. Devon's inner dialogue at times made me want to throat punch him.
Meanwhile there's a lot going on with this family, sister in law Ellie is pregnant and Finn's busy running the store with his wife. Then Mom announces that she's getting engaged. Devon is livid. The other two are happy including Izzy, who Luann the Mom has always made her part of the family. Which also doesn't always make Devon happy. Damn Devon. Luann asks for Izzy's help with the wedding and of course she says yes. (Mindful she's now handling three jobs) and Devon finally wheedles his way into her pants. Everyone notices that Devon is a whole lot more likable too. They keep they're affair a secret. Izzy isn't happy being someone's secret but she and Devon really do get along well and have fun. Devon is starting to loosen up and they enjoy each other.
When her Mom calls about a shop for sale in Myrtle Beach and they might put in an offer and they want her to move down there. They have a couple months to think about it, but it just adds more pressure on Isabelle. Devon starts riding her about spending too much time at the shop and gives her a deadline to hire a manager and reliable help. Mind you, she was supposed to be running the shop, not working for Devon. He's a spoiled child.
With his Mothers wedding looming closer, Izzy is weighing her options. The wedding goes off wonderfully and it's a wonderful event .....for everyone except Izzy. One word wakes her up and she's gone. Really gone. Read the book to get all the little details and see what happens to Devon!
What a great story Susan wrote and not just this book, but the series. I'd recommend all three. I read them a couple years ago and they were great. They still are and not to be missed. These are real character stories and have great plots. Susan writes great characters. You can feel Devon radiating off the page. Which at times makes you want to slug him, but it's all in the book!
Great book Susan! Loved it. 4.5 stars
**arc from Netgalley and Entangled in exchange for a fair review**
Overall – I love this cute series. The issues that everyone in this series has had to overcome are endearing and make the characters so much more real, believable and loveable.
Devon is the oldest Donovan. He is the ultimate protector. Now that his abusive father is out of the picture and the Donovan’s have inherited lots of money. Everyone in the family can breathe. Everyone except Devon. He keeps moving, working, living in a certain way so that no one can hurt him again. He doesn’t believe in relationships or love. He saw how that worked for his mom. He is willing to have affairs and then walk away. The only problem with that is a cute redhead that has grown to a woman. She isn’t the girl who once asked him to the Prom when he had come back from a deployment in the military.
Isabelle’s parents sold their flower shop to the Donovan’s and they decided to retire in Myrtle Beach. Leaving Isabelle to work with Devon as part of the deal. Isabelle is the girl with the MBA who can help the Donovan’s with their money investments. Or so Devon’s brothers believe. He had no intention of allowing anyone help him with the business. He doesn’t trust. He just let his brothers believe it. But Isabelle proves to be very good at helping them and Devon finds himself trusting her. He just doesn’t see it that way. Isabelle though has always had a crush on Devon and when they both feel the chemistry; Devon proposes an affair with no one knowing. He makes it clear to Isabelle that is only an affair that can’t go anywhere. To protect him and his business, he wants Isabelle to sign an employment agreement. Isabelle doesn’t sign it but decides to go with Devon’s offer of an affair in hopes that he would come to love her. Stupid girl. I can’t believe anyone would really do that and really not think they would or could get hurt.
So begins the affair and time they both start spending together. They both start enjoying themselves in the other’s company after five pm and only working as professionals during the day. Trying to keep his large family from knowing anything except that he is seeing someone and not sharing with his family.
I love the Donovan family. For all they have been through, they care for and help each other. Their mom is getting remarried and Devon is having a hard time thinking his mom is making a good choice. He thinks that she is making another bad decision. He only finds out that she is happy and that the man his mother is marrying is a good man. Everyone is happy except Devon. He was beaten by his father and his emotional scars are deep. Isabelle is good for Devon. They are good together. They really care for each other and the chemistry and love they share is very tender and I can’t help but scream at Devon to let her in and love her back and shout it to the world!
Just like every story, there comes a point where the bottom falls out and Isabelle has had enough and won’t let her heart hurt any more. I felt the pain that Isabelle was feeling as if it were me! What Devon does surprised me. What a good man he really is!
I have read the second book so I knew some of the family before this book. I think even if I hadn’t read it I would have been okay reading this alone.
So, if you like swimming, sneaking around, fade to black intimacy, family, babies, flowers, brats, weddings, surprises, money, finding love, makeovers, overcoming abuse and letting it go, Myrtle Beach then this might just be for you.
Loved this Adorable story by Susan Meier. The characters were well developed and their journey was sweet, sexy and so much fun to to watch develop. I enjoyed the witty banter as well as the sweet and tender moments that they shared and the family bond of togetherness that was created with the Donovan Family. Could not put this down and I read until the wee hours of the morning to finish.
Isabelle or "Izzy" or "Belle" has had a crush on Devon Donovan since she was fourteen. So when she is informed by her parents that they sold " Buds and Blossoms" to Donovan's Inc. and a job for her is also part of the deal, she finds herself in a very uncomfortable and unexpected situation. But she discovers that as long as she focuses on work she can show Devon what an intelligent, capable, business woman she can be. But is that what she really wants, to just be his employee? Not with the way she feels about this tall, dark, brooding, handsome, sexy hunk of a man. So she enlists the help of her long time friends and shows up to work after a complete make over.
Devon Donovan has always been the one to protect and take care of everybody else in his family, especially from his abusive father. He also started Donovan's Inc. when they received their grandfather money and has been busy working to make sure the family will be secure financially in the future. That is why buying the flower shop from the Coopers was a good investment he not only got a business but he also got a, go to girl to help manage their fortune in Izzy with her MBA. But he didn't count on the way that Izzy or Belle had grown up into a beautiful, capable, smart, sexy woman. But he doesn't date or have relationships, he has sex and definitely not with an employee. Or does he?
Will Belle catch Devon's eye with her make over? Will Devon want more with Belle? Will he realize that they are made for each other? You will have to read this to find out. Loved it! Highly Recommend!

Head Over Heels for the Boss is the third novel in the Donovan Brothers series from author Susan Meier and now gives readers the story of the eldest Donovan son, Devon, a man who takes on the responsibilities of taking care of and protecting his mother and two younger brothers seriously, and Izzy Cooper, a former tomboy who has grown up to be an intelligent, beautiful, and confident young woman. Much to Devon's surprise, Izzy proves to be his equal and he wants to be with her, but he makes it clear that they can't have anything more than a temporary affair. Of course, feelings complicate even the best laid plans and when one of them wants more and the other remains firm on what was previously agreed on, hearts are destined to be broken. There's a fair bit of meddling, but what else do you expect from the town of Harmony Hills?
I liked that Izzy was a woman who went after what she wanted and was strong and stubborn enough to not allow herself to give in for something less. She's funny and has a love for family and community. She's very responsible and rarely says no to those who need her help, which makes her similar to Devon. His family has always come first and when each of his brothers find the women they want to share their lives with and then soon his mom does the same, he feels lost. Izzy and Devon were meant to be together, even though there was a time or two that Devon was blinded by his own stubbornness. I thought he would be partnered with Barbara Beth, but obviously I was mistaken. Her story looks to be up next and with an interesting twist to it, based on the epilogue and will be on my TBR list. Head Over Heels for the Boss gets 4.5 stars. ♥
This is a fast paced fun romance. When you begin we see two people with very different views of each other and life. Devon is business oriented and the only thing he has ever known is protecting his family. Slowly his family is becoming more and more independent and it takes him awhile to see that he is free. when he does it’s funny because with freedom he is lost and starting to watch Good Morning America for fun. At the beginning of the book Devon starts out as very rigid and focused. Relationships are something he doesn’ t want and this is due to what happened with his mom and dad. Than he hires Isabelle and wow the change that comes over him.
Isabelle is fun flirty and sweet. She has a great mind and is now thrust in a world where her crush is her boss. As they start to work together, her crush intensifies and her and her friends begin the operation Devon. Meaning get Devon to notice Isabelle. He does boy does he but he fights it. than they begin to secretly see each other and Devon does fall for Isabelle but denies it.
One of my favorite things is how when Devon gets caught doing the walk of shame how much his brothers razz him. Those moments and the moment of Devon with his new niece was so heartwarming.
When Devon and Isabelle get together wow. They are roasty toasty. The way they mesh in and out of bed is great. Isabelle begins to have Devon loosen up and start to smile. He sees more than just business and starts to become a better guy. The weight of being the protector is lifted and he feels free. Isabelle becomes more confident in herself and her business capabilities. They are there for each other. But with all wonderful things one must screw up and it is Devon for her is in denial as to his feelings. It takes his brothers to have him see the light but when he does he does something amazing to make it up to Isabelle.
A fun flirty romance about two opposites who come together and help each other become who they are meant to be.
I received an eARC of the book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book had cute romance written all over it – I mean you have read the blurb haven’t you?
And I requested this book when I was in mood for a cute light-hearted romance. Imagine my surprise when this “cute” romance did not only have romance, but it had drama, angst, a hero who is more of an ass that one would have thought possible when you first met him and a heroine who needed to grow a backbone (which she definitely did!).
I loved Isabelle – she reminded me of me :D Not because she was a geek, but she took time to understand who she was and what she actually wanted from life – but boy when she did, she stuck to her guns and never let anyone walk over her.
Devon on the other hand, was an uptight ass who didn’t understand what he had until she got away – but let’s face it aren’t all men like that. But what I never really understood what his reasoning behind wanting a secret relationship with Isabelle. Yes, I have never really lived in a small town, but are people that interested in who are dating whom?
Anywho, this book is also the third in a series, but I didn’t quite feel that it was. It can definitely be read in as a standalone but there are a few hints here and there, that did pique my interest in the rest of books – and the fact that I definitely liked the writing style, I would soon be picking out the other books as well :D
I really fell in love with the characters of this book!
Isabelle Cooper, as an only child, is devoted to her parents. She's kind and helpful to all she meets, and she's secretly been crushing on Devon Donovan since she was 14 years old.
Devon, oldest of 3, has been taking care of his Mom and younger brothers since before he was even a teenager. He stepped in to protect them from his abusive Dad, and even after his Dad was out of the picture, he felt like he had to look after them and take care of things in their daily lives, especially after the family inherits a fortune from their grandfather.
Izzy's parents decide to sell their flower shop to the Donovan family and move south to enjoy their retirement. Izzy is thrown for a loop because she managed the shop and now is being thrown to the wolves in her eyes. She can't deal with seeing Devon every day considering how she feels about him.
Devon informs Izzy that he wants her to work for his families corporation instead of at the flower shop so she can put her MBA in Business to good use. She is hesitant, but decides to try it. Working with her every day makes Devon finally notice Izzy for the woman that she has become.
Can Izzy convince Devon to give love a chance, or will he continue to only allow himself to only give in to a secret affair that holds no strings to a future?
Head Over Heels for the Boss was a great romance. It reminded me of once superstar romance authors Nora Roberts and Jude Deveraux in their earlier works. The book starts out immediately grabbing your attention by throwing you into the crux of Izzy's problem, which is that her parents have sold the family flower shop to her lifetime crush, the handsome and wealthy Devon.
What I enjoyed most about this book was the steady pace and the fact that the author did a really good job maintaining the conflict in the story throughout. Due to his abusive upbringing by his father and the poor example that was set for him about relationships and marriage, he has major committement issues and so when he and Izzy vocalaize their attraction for each other, he seems to think they can keep things casual while working together. Wrong. It turns out Izzy is just the person he's needed most of his adult life to make him relax, stop working so much, and learn to enjoy life and love again.
While the book didn't leave me breathless or frantic to find reading time, it was a solid romance that I totally enjoyed. Entertaining and sweet, I think most fans of contemporary romance will love it. It's also nice for those who don't want books with a lot of sex, as the actual love-making portions of the scenes were cut short and glossed over.

"Head Over Heels for the Boss" is written by Susan Meier, and it is the 3rd book in The Donovan series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. It features Isabelle Cooper and Devon Donovan.
Isabelle Cooper's parents recently sold the family flower shop to Devon Donovan. Devon's family is rich. He's a lawyer and will now be Isabelle's boss. Problem is, Isabelle has had a crush on Devon since she was a teenager. She asked Devon to the prom, and he turned her down. What does Devon think of grown-up Izzy now?
Devon is attracted to Izzy, or "Belle" as she wants him to call her. As they continue to work closer, their attraction is palpable. They eventually give in to their feelings for one another, but they keep their relationship a secret to their family and friends. I think the only real gripe I have with this book is Devon's constant referral to their relationship as an "affair." It does become an issue for Izzy because she wants to make their relationship public.
"Head Over Heels for the Boss" was a quick, light read for me. I did enjoy seeing the interaction of the Donovan clan. They're a close-knit family, who truly supports one another. Good job by Susan!
Excellent read and I just love this Donovan family! Isabelle and Devon are great characters and watching as their relationship evolves was so fun. This is a wonderful story that is very well written with a great pace.
Devon has always been the stoic, serious Donovan brother. Always the protector of his Mother and brothers, especially from their abusive father, has always laid heavily on him. Now that the family is rid of his father and has inherited their grandfather's money, Devon takes his roll as the overseer of that fortune very seriously. Nothing can distract him from that task! Well, until Isabelle Cooper comes into his world.
Isabelle can't believe it when her parents sell the family owned flower shop to the Donovan's. Luckily they did negotiate that she would have a job. They just failed to tell her that job would be working with Devon, her teenage crush, closely. Too closely!!
A fun book that everyone should read. I highly recommend it.
I absolutely loved this book! Susan Meier always writes characters that burrow into my heart stay with me long after I’ve turned the final page, and she absolutely knocks it out of the park in Head Over Heels for the Boss. When Izzy finds herself in an unexpected and uncomfortable situation, working for the man she's had a crush on since high school, she discovers it's her opportunity to shine as the intelligent, capable business woman she'd always hoped she could be. Meanwhile, finally released from years of shouldering his self-imposed responsibility for his family, Devon isn't about to relinquish the freedom he's finally gained. But, freedom isn't what he thought it would be. Filled with witty banter, great small town characters, and two people you won't be able to resist as they embark on a journey of self-discovery, Head Over Heels for the Boss is a great read you won't want to miss!
Received a copy of the title in exchange for an honest review.
Little Izzy's all grown up -- and the last thing she wants is for the Donovan brother she'd had a crush on those years ago to think of her as Izzy. Well, that and the fact he now owns the shop she once shared with her parents is pretty high up there, too.
This was a cute, sweet read and I rather enjoyed it. Devon is definitely the type to steer clear of relationships; he's business minded and in his eyes, definitely not the one his mom should be looking toward for grandbabies. He's had enough of the "responsible for others" spiel but watching him with Isabelle...
I will definitely be going back to read the previous books in the series (I have book one ready to go!).
I loved the story of Isabelle and Devon. Isabelle has been crushing on Devon since high school and now he is her boss. The biggest problem is Devon, doesn't date and doesn't have relationships. He has sex. Isabelle has agreed to his terms, hoping that she can win his heart over. I so enjoyed the journey of their romance, even though they tried to keep it a secret from family and friends.
I so enjoyed the secondary romance of his mother and fireman, Bob. What a surprise to the family. Love the Donovan family!!
I highly recommend this clean, sweet romance. I received this book from netgalley for an honest review.
Note: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced and flirty book! The chemistry between Devon and Isabelle was perfect, he knew just how to press her buttons in order to drive her crazy, which added the fun and flirty element to their romance. I hadn't read the other two books in this series, so I was concerned that I wouldn't have a full grasp of the characters, but Susan Meier writes in such a way that it really didn't matter. I never felt as though I was missing a key piece as I read through the story. This is a well written and smile inducing story that I would recommend for anyone who enjoys the second chance romance theme!
This was a great stand alone novel. Izzy aka Belle aka Isabelle is my favorite type of lead. She is sassy, headstrong, lovable and a small town girl with an MBA. Devon is exactly like her and completely perfect for her.
This was a great read. I became emotional invested in the characters as would any reader.
I recommend this book to anyone interested in a quirky interoffice romance. It is a light read and definitely one of my favorites now.
I was given a copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Izzy has her man down pack, “that you’re glad I left your mother’s sweater back in the office so you can look at my boobs anytime you think I can’t see.” There were times I liked Devon, then there were others when he wanted to have his cake and eat it too, and I didn't like that Devon, “we’re not really going to be dating, remember? I don’t date. I don’t have relationships. I have sex.” I liked this book it was angsty and once Devon worked his issues out he was a pleasant guy.
Such high hopes for this one but it fell flat to me. The plot was kind of boring since it's been done over and over again. There's probably a better book out there that will fulfill your need for this kind of story. I suggest to skip.
Belle’s whole life has centered around her family owned flower shop. She always pictured running the place with her parents and then later on her own. So it comes as a shock to her when her parents announce they’ve sold the shop and are retiring to Florida.
To make matters worse, they managed to make it a condition of the sale, that the new owner keeps Belle on indefinitely. The problem… her new boss is the very man Belle’s been crushing on since she was 14 years old. Devon Donovan.
Devon has been the head of his family for more than two decades. He lives and breathes work. Hiring Belle as camouflage for his worried brothers, Dev was surprised to find the little tomboy all grown up and all to tempting.
Devon’s childhood was marred by his father’s drinking and physical abuse. He doesn’t believe in love but he does believe in healthy attraction so he manages to convince Belle, a no strings attached affair in the answer to their mutual attraction. On the other hand, Belle still feels a strong infatuation with Devon and agrees to a secret affair, thinking she can handle it.
Had promise but it turned out to be a romance fail for me I liked both characters up to a certain point but eventually they both started to unravel for me. Firstly, I get that Belle agreed to this messed up secret affair with Devon but as time progressed, I felt that she was if not justified, at least understandable as to why she would start to hope/believe that Devon had grown to care for her. When they were alone, Devon shared his personal life with her. They bonded and it wasn’t all done between the sheets. They really seemed to become friends and feelings seemed to develop between them.
That is until you get inside Devon’s head. OMG! What a frustrating MC. His back and forth and mixed signals drove me up the whole. His behavior at the wedding!!!! Argh -_- It was such a douche bag move that I expected a huge grovel scene. I need my MMCs to realize a lot earlier than 95% into their story that they messed up. That there are genuine feelings of love and affection for their h and not continue to be hard headed and stubborn and basically ignore everyone and be selfish. That is not H material and Devon did all of that.
I was so disappointed in Belle’s easy forgiveness. To make matters worse, I felt the whole family (including her friends, who are married to Devon’s brothers) insulted her at the wedding. Who allows someone to help plan a wedding, organize and arrange it (all the while telling her and treating her like family) and then on the main day, completely forget her? Belle spent countless hours getting everything right for Devon’s mom’s wedding and no one can be bothered to make sure she has a seat at the table, any table? I think it was doubly messed up because they all knew how alone Belle was feeling, as an only child and for the first time having her parents so far away. They really made her feel like family and it was a slap in the face to show up and have to watch the “family” celebrate from the back row. The lame cop out reason “they forgot with everything going on” is just that, lame! That is a huge oversight and proved that all that drivel about being “like” family was empty words. That whole scene was messed up. She was ignored by her own so called friends and then Devon gives her the cold shoulder! In my book, they all would have been written off and I would have started over in Florida without a backwards glance.
By the end, I was hoping Belle would snap out of it and move on. Sadly everything was forgiven and eventually they do get together. I’m just not convinced it was for the best.
I adored this book. I fell in love with the Donovan brothers right from the beginning. They had a hard life growing up. Their father was abusive to all three of the boys and their mother. Devon had it the hardest as he was the oldest and tried to shield his younger brothers. Isabelle is an only child of loving parents so her childhood was perfect. She got her MBA so she could work with her parents at their florist shop. Unfortunately for her, her parents sold out to Donovan, Inc. They wanted to retire to Myrtle Beach and this was the only way. A stipulation was put in place that Isabelle would have a place to work. Devon decides to take Izzy out of the shop and have her help him manage the Donovan family fortune.
What ensues was a tender love story that has a boat-load of heartbreak for Isabelle. I adored Isabelle. She is a strong woman but with fairy tale glasses on. Why shouldn't she though. She worked with beautiful flowers with her parents and created wonderful dreams for others. She has had a crush on Devon for since she was fourteen. Devon though is only interested in an affair. The author did a fantastic job of weaving a these two souls together in a story that enchanted me.
I adored the dual POV format. Getting into the character's mind and seeing their thought process helped me to fully identify and understand them. Devon's side and his history really would have been hard for me to understand without seeing his POV. I have never been exposed to anything like that so having the dual POV was enlightening and a must as far as I am concerned.
I was sad to see the end of the book but the author dropped a wonderful bomb for readers in the Epilogue. I highly recommend this story to anyone over 18. Even though this could be read as a stand alone, I would recommend reading the other stories as well. You will fall in love with the entire family and their individual journey to their HEAs. All of the brothers appear in all of the stories and the prior female protagonists do appear in the following stories.
